Though Shiva is known primarily for his role as a god of destruction, it also means that he can transform the old into new, giving him the aspects of renewal. Shiva's wife is Parvati, and when their aspects combine they represent the dual-gendered god Ardhanari. Shiva's son is the elephant-headed Ganesha, whose appearance was given by his own father. Shiva's mount is the bull Nandi.
Common iconography of Shiva are the phallic Shiva linga stones.
Shiva often appears in the Megami Tensei series, almost always as one of the highest level demons in each game. Also unique to Shiva is that he usually can only be fused by combining the two Balinese gods, Barong and Rangda.
In Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey, a special Shiva can be summoned by using the password KAZUMAKANEKO.
Kazuma Kaneko is the series' main art designer.
Shiva is also used as the name of several popular video game characters, including Shiva from the Streets of Rage series, and Shiva from the Final Fantasy series.
