Blade Runner the movie is such shite though, I HATE Harrison Ford types in general and he was extra bored in the narration. It’s most def a movie that inspired so much everything that came after it makes it look dull 2Bfair

@awkwardl0ser: Ridley Scott hated the narration in the theatrical cut but the people funding the movie made him put it in. There's some directors cuts that have it removed and it's much better without.

Haven't finished the stream, but I hope they figure out that 'Designer's Cut' is meant for New Game +, as it cuts down on the amount of dialogue.

@awkwardl0ser: Well good news, Harrison Ford also hated the monologues he was given and thought they were completely unnecessary to the film. Just adding to what @killerkidclever said. Pretty much all the narration was added because the studio thought audiences would be confused by all the moments where no one is talking. You can also thank them for the terrible "good ending" they shoe horned at the end of the theatrical version.

I guess with Dan no longer threatening to fall asleep mid stream, they're free to do adventure games?

I loved Dan, and will miss his content dearly, but... hey!

Fun fact: the music in this game is redone for the game to avoid licensing and other funk, and sounds a little bit "off" for that reason. In a lot of ways, I find it a bit better. Also the one more kiss song heard in one of the areas is a cover/spin on an already cover/spin from the movie of that Ink Spots song. Out of the three versions this game's version is my favourite : - ).

Another thing is, the game has a random set of steps meaning no session (in theory) would be the same as the other with "random" story variations. I think it also has to do with what personality you select McCoy with. I loved this game as a kid so so much, I still have a boxed copy of it somewhere stored away underneath a mountain of other old PC game boxes.

I've been watching old GB east stuff lately and this video had a similar vibe to that stuff. I'm very much excited for this type of stuff to return if it is. I'm hopeful for more adventure and narrative games along with all the Clue Crew stuff. Also more bad FMV.

I watched Blade Runner for the first time about ten years ago and, boy, did I really not get it. It had some tremendous world building and a real sense of style to it, but the story that it told was pretty basic and boring. I suspect that people latched on to it because it fired up every cylinder of their imagination and not because the plot gripped them.

Also, my mom was familiar with the movie and that surprised the fuck out of me because that is not her type of film at all.

i hated blade runner at first but for whatever reason watched it a second time. hated it a little less. then i saw The Final Cut at the cinema with a friend and that would've (at least) been the third time i watched the movie... and i completely fell in love with it. maybe the original theatrical version isn't as great but luckily it's been "patched" since then :-)

I love me some old-school Vinny & Alex content. A real GBeast throwback! Hope all the studio stuff is going well, that revamp certainly seems like a big undertaking but I really appreciate Vinny taking some time to show some behind-the-scenes business off in the pre-preshow.

Big fan of them playing Blade Runner. Not so big fan of constantly looking at a walkthrough. I fully understand why you would want to have one at the ready for a 90s point-and-click adventure game. But I prefer a walkthrough to be used sparingly when in need. Especially when watching personality driven content, where talking through possible ways to progress becomes an entertaining part of the process. At least that's how I view it.

That all said, I hope you continue playing through Blade Runner, with or without heavy use of the walkthrough. =)

@toxicantidote: Agreed 100%. Especially as Vinny has played older, far more obtuse adventure games, it was sad to see him fall back on the guide so quickly in so many cases.

A walkthrough for this game also hurts as it has many variables, both timing-based and randomly seeded for each playthrough.

I understand the need to move things along for video content, but I think they could've played it more authentically, an hour and a half would have been enough time to know if it was something they wanted to continue.

As a minor point, if they don't get subtitles working I can also foresee an issue if they talk over dialogue and miss something important

@toxicantidote: they would hardly make any progress without it. For streaming purposes it’s a great setup to have Vinny wing it and then double check with Dungeon Master Alex if they got everything they needed to.

I love this type of content. Please keep playing older kind of obscure games. These older games are more entertaining to watch y'all play than the newer ones. Either way I love all that y'all do.

I used to build out data centers for a living, and could terminate a cat cable end every 20 seconds or so. The finger pain is real. Still, fiber termination is worse i think, because of the glass shards getting in your fingers.

Blade Runner Replicants are NOT robots. I dunno where people get that from. They are completely flesh and blood. Down to the point where no biological test can distinguish them.

I am so happy that they decided to return to this game. It is kind of opaque later on (classic old school adventure game logic rears its ugly head), but this game was kind of revolutionary for its time. If I recall from the times I played it in the past, the game may randomize whether or not certain characters are or are not replicants. This random nature, plus the choices you make in the story, can lead to a lot of variation between play throughs. I beat it a few times and remember it playing out slightly differently each time. Really cool game with a lot of flaws. So yeah, excited to see this continue!

@humanity: I completely agree that a walkthrough is the best choice for this feature. This game's random nature makes it hard for any walkthrough to be perfect, but there are a few points that are consistent throughout each version of the game. I remember getting very badly stuck in this game playing it around the time of its release, and without gamefaqs I never would have finished it. I don't think looking up hints diminishes the value of this game.

So I agree with what you're saying, but that's not how it went. It was more that Vinny asked Alex to hold off with what to look for at some points. I'd have preferred if it was the other way around, that Vinny asked for hints and directions when needed. It's ok if it takes a little bit longer. We are not here to see them do an optimal run of a game, are we?

They have done way more obscure adventure games than Blade Runner on stream, where they used a walkthrough as help when they got stuck.

And I also think there's value in, both for them and for the audience, to hear them talk through and figure out some of the steps on their own.

In theory I'd say that using a walkthrough isn't fun, but then I remembered how much aimless wandering their original videos of this included. While that was fun in itself, I'd rather see them get through the story and eventually wrap it all up.

I guess Bakalar was caught up on something else while they did this? I remember he wanted to tag along when this came up during a podcast. Hopefully he drops by for the next episode(s). A dream would obviously be to also get Dave and Drew back. Drew dropped some incredible jokes back in those old videos.

Also dang, just a bit over seven years since they last played...time flies. Should also be enough time for Vinny to hopefully repeat some jokes from last time upon seeing certain scenes, since enough time has definitely passed for him to forget all of them.

@hawkerace: It's not so much "random", it just happens in real-time, i.e. the moment you start the game npcs start moving around, doing things whether you are there or not. I remember the Real-Time thing being a big selling point when the game came out.

Though it might be the case that the non-story critical npcs you can VK are randomized at the start as either human or replicant.

Glad I am not the only one who didn't like Blade Runner the movie, I honestly thought I must have missed something big or something was wrong with me.

I was however, impressed by the visuals, set design and the atmosphere through the movie. The presentation was incredible enough for me to enjoy it but man I thought the writing was just pretty plain.
