Get On My Level! - 08/28/2019

I’m curious about the level picking process because I posted my level around the same time as the one Brad played on UPF a couple weeks ago and mine hasn’t been played by Ben or Dan. Should I repost it? Is there some requirement I missed besides the coins? It’s not long and it’s very beatable.

I enjoy watching either way.

So, for the first level, does Ben just need to go the left at the beginning of the level?

I figured that was a possibility, the big arrow right at the start is redundant so I assumed it was misdirection.

I don't think so since it's a vertical column not scrolling left & right. Nintendo pointed out that a feature added with MM2 is if you make a room as wide as the screen, the level won't scroll left & right.

Hey! Thanks for trying my level out. As far as the red coins go, I tried to make a sound cue at the beginning of the pipe section to give a little heads up and then there are sound cues on top of all 4 pipes you need to go down to get the coins.

do hot rod and popstar count as snl movies ? if so they are top tier

So they played 2 levels without the required 'GB' in them, but also one that they've already played before?

Out of the hundreds of hundreds of levels (mine included) put into the thread that's kind of disappointing tbh.

Thanks for playing my level (the last one)! I don't really have a great way to record the entire level at the moment, but I did take a couple videos in the past using the system's capture button.

You do eventually get a star and get to run through all those Hammer Bros., as well a slide that lets you kill dozens of Rocky Wrenches.

Continues to be a great series. Love watching these guys try levels. Some of these are super creative. I'm very impressed.

That final level though... Pretty dickish. Even as a joke it wasn't worth picking.

NES batman was my first wall jump

This has fast become one of my favorite site features, and it's a pairing I NEVER would have imagined being great together. Don't know what it is, but these two have just the PERFECT energy for one another.

And forget MK on the Genesis: MK's AI is one of the few videogame things I will get legitimately salty about NOW. Moreso even than online, the VS AI frustrates and infuriates me like NO OTHER game.

Yeah.... I don't have any expectation whatsoever that my level should make the cut and get into a video but I'm disappointed that it hasn't even been played by either of them to check it out and see if it's any good.

Dan saying he's never played team-based games... didn't he play a decent amount of R6 Siege earlier this year? That's like the most supreme team-oriented game that's currently active. I guess that answers whether or not he was a good teammate, heh. Although he did say he likes playing Ash, and that's par for the course for Ash players.

I feel like Dan unknowingly met Miyamoto in his Kansas FuncoLand and inspired the Waluigi character. It sounds like something that would happen to him.

Ben's gleeful laugh at the start of Dodge, Duck, Dip, Dive, and Dodge was wonderful.

Hot take that is the only SNL movie that matters, the rest are garbage.

Blues Brothers is GOAT when it comes to SNL movies. I've never understood the love for MacGruber, but to each their own.

Continuing to adore this series; keep it up guys, such a fun chemistry between Ben and Dan.

Re: early wall jumps, if we're counting wall grabs there's Ninja Gaiden on NES, and if we're not there's Batman on NES.

This has been a really fun series. Dan and Ben are great together and I'm really impressed by all the creative levels people come up with.

@jasperkazai: Dan's pretty forgetful. Or maybe he didn't really play it to the level that Ben plays things like DOTA.

You can wall jump in SMB1, but it's frame-perfect.

The earliest game in the Giant Bomb wiki to have a wall jump is Rastan, which came out in 1987. Coincedentally, it was also a major source of inspiration for Brad's favorite game, Volgarr The Viking.

If we're talking about 16-bit Tiny Toons games with wall jumps, Buster's Hidden Treasure on Genesis had actual wall jumps.
