Finally some Game Tapes! It's been so long I thought they had canceled this feature.

At around 9:08 i think there's some tape damage? the deinterlacing goes out of wack and the whole image becomes very weird and flickery.

@nukleon: I think they turned deinterlacing on around there, but some setting must be wrong or something. My guess is that the two fields are being shown in the reverse time order and that's why it's so flickery.

The flickering has stayed for as far as I got so far (45 mins) and exists across several tapes. It's honestly making it pretty hard to watch :(

@computron7000: I guess this wasn't visible on the feed they were viewing, or in the booth.

This could be fixed in post, just past the clean captures into the frame over the stuff from the live viewing.

@nukleon: Yeah, not sure how it happened but I downloaded the video file and the frames are definitely showing up in the wrong order like I thought. Instead of seeing the order 1,2,3,4,5,6 we get 2,1,4,3,6,5...

I'm just gonna change my desktop to 30Hz for the rest of the video and hope they can fix it later.

The teams knowledge of MMO history is about mine with wrestling.

Not braced for the Pure Moods soundtrack on the PS2 tape, especially Adiemus.

Video quality aside it's fascinating to me that Jeff can't immediately tell PS1 and Dreamcast/PS2 games apart

Man I would love it if there was a way to stream premium vids off youtube servers. Streaming anything from GB is quickly becoming a pointless endeavor for me. Everything else is fine, but giantbomb.com is 10 seconds buffering for every 5 seconds of video on low settings and downloads at about 60 - 150 kb/s if I try and download the video.

That aside, I love game tapes and look forward to watching the rest of this later :)

I've been waiting for Dark Cloud 3 since Dark Cloud 2 came out. We're never going to get one, though, because it's a Sony property, not a Level-5 property. Also, White Knight Chronicles 1 and 2 didn't do that great critically and it didn't sell all that great (if I recall correctly), and from what I recall, those were kind of being used to test the waters. So, we'll never get Dark Cloud 3. Level-5 is content with churning out Professor Laytons, Inzuma Elevens, and Yokai Watches, anyway.

Yo, Okage is a really good game! It plays pretty plainly, but the aesthetic is awesome, and the humor is really good! Not surprised to see GB dismissing it as soon as they see the title.

Planetside Arena coming in 2019. It's going to work this time around, I swear.

My opinion is that the South Park movie is incredible and I will scoff at you if you disagree.

I like how proud Jeff is about that South Park review.

I still play Everquest on a fan made server that is explicitly meant to emulate the era of 1999 through 2001 of EQ. It has been explicitly allowed to exist by Daybreak, too, which is cool.

Seeing that same era of EQ contextless in this Game Tapes is so weird.

Also, Everquest absolutely was first person. Not everyone played that way, especially now, but it was definitely part of The Vision(tm). You should look up the old UI, too. It was the game runnig at like 640x480 with only about 30% of that your screen

Long live the good SOE MMO games. I still hop into the Star Wars Galaxies Emulated Server every now and then.

Did anyone used to play this? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infantry_(video_game) it was a SOE game that me and my friends played A LOT, seeing Jeff talk about the station pass stuff reminded me of the time Station Pass came out and Infantry went behind a paywall.

This was devastating at the time and pretty much killed it for us as no one could afford to pay the monthly fee - we were kids!

@sankis: I’ve been playing PlanetSide on a fan server as well (PSForever), it’s been fun, although a game like PS1 needs way more players than are currently playing there to really feel like the good old days.

I only quit EverQuest about nine months ago. It's still going. Though with voice chat, all of the raids are largely incredibly easy. Met some very good people. Never saw a wedding though. Or a poetry reading.

The music that played over the Jak & Daxter footage sounded extremely familiar and I have never played those games. That makes me think that they took that song from something else.

The Gamecube controller is great. What the fuck is wrong with people?

@mbr2:It's a song called Adiemus, it's like one of those weird 90's ambient new age songs with a made up language. The kinda stuff Enya did a lot of.

The close-up on the tape deck is very intimate and adds a lot to the experience. It's like visual ASMR.
