I tried to watch Annette. I didn't like it. I like weird shit. I love to see something creative that takes chances and dares the audience to accept it. I'm ok with pretentious shit. If a movie has too much ambition without the chops to really pull it off, it's interesting to watch how it fails.

This was just boring. There's a weird doll and bad songs. That's it. I was bored until 45 minutes in when something interesting happens. Then it turns out that that scene was a dream sequence and didn't matter at all.

It would be cool if this was bad in an interesting or entertaining way, but it's just not. It just feels like a few hours of nothing.

I felt the same about a Jame Lee Curtis movie recently (Virus). Borrows heavily from other films and I waited for a plot twist to differentiate it. Nothing happened until a few minutes before the closing credits started rolling. I was caught out because I'd been watching a lot of 3hr movies and become patient with slow buildups only to find it was about 100 minutes. It had some good moments, but the cast could have done better than the film allowed, they didn't need to be there.
