As much as I have appreciated this Fallout game and Planescape Torment over the years, it is now forever marred by Chris Avellone's involvement and the multiple accusations and witnessed accounts of predatory sexual harassment against him, across multiple companies he worked with. Just gross.

I know he's working on the new Bloodlines 2 game coming soon, and I can only hope anyone that's even remotely in his circles is keeping a safe distance away from him.

Crap. Gotta beat Persona 4 Gold first time and find time to cram in fallout 2 first time before I lose half a year to Cyberpunk.

You get a big bonus to hit anyone who gets knocked down, you should generally take advantage of that instead of going after anyone else. Also energy weapons mostly suck compared to small guns unless you can find a turbo plasma rifle, but at least they're better than big guns

Its extra funny that someone is lording his knowledge of "VATS" over Ben in the comments given that they can't even bother to lord over Ben with correct information. Shooting for the groin confers a high knockdown chance, knockdowns basically paralyze most humanoid opponents (they use too much ap standing up to shoot) and as L1ama pointed out you (and your followers) get a large to hit bonus. This is especially valuable when you have low to mid values on attack skills and are never gonna hit anyone in the eyes. Also the mechanic is named "Called Shots" in Fallouts 1 & 2, from GURPS (which S.P.E.C.I.A.L. is adapted from).

As a person who played (and has been playing) these games since they were new, Ben is doing a pretty well for a game as obtuse and arcane as this. That jet addition is gonna haunt you though....

Ben! Your playthrough ended up making me want to finally play through this and holy crap is it fun. I wanted post some quick control advice though, I think you said you're using the unofficial patch so you should be able to hit T to pick up items at/close to your dudes feet. It's the *only* way to pick stuff up when it's blocked by other interactive objects.

Another hot tip, you can take jet/stimpacks etc. in combat without opening the full inventory, just use the context menu when you hold the mouse on a character, you can even stim companions when they're next to you this way for 1 AP.

On that note....you can also give Sulik drugs and set his combat settings to "take whatever you want" and get Sulik high as shit in fights, it's great, Sulik on buffout with a super sledge is beautiful.
