brad to have you back
Anthem, Theeker of Darkneth
When they brought up food poisoning at the beginning I would have bet money that the next things out of their mouths would be Disney Land and Funny Animals.
What's wrong with James Woods? Is being a conservative taboo now?
@nachobandit: A Google search for "James Woods asshole" returned an article about how he once was kicked off Twitter for grumbling about Liberals in a way that Twitter deemed "could affect the election", which violates their rules. Woods complained about free speech and so on.
Hypocritically, he also once filed a defamatory lawsuit against "some random internet troll" because he said some mean stuff about him. The case never went through because the defendant died, which Woods proceeded to gloat about.
He seems like a dumbass.
On the other hand, he apparently is always excited to be in the Kingdom Hearts games because he loves being Hades so much (the money probably helps, too). So, that's... heartwarming? Nothing further, just thought that was interesting.

oof. that anthem talk- what a colossal bummer.
i really miss old bioware.
I got into the Demo (lets be real it was a beta) for free somehow and the Demo was really bad in a lot of aspects (technical, poor explanations, how huge items are isn't clear if you just play a bit, etc), but the game has a ton of complexity and promise. Currently I plan to get Premium for a month, to save money, and play the game as I doubt there is more then a month of content for a fairly hardcore gamer based on what I have seen.
Something thats hard to understand without playing a decent amount (they start you with literally nothing) is the sheer quantity of loot, builds, and combat depth via primer and detonators with different power setups (essentially weapons with cooldowns). For instance primers and detonators were not explained at all and are a large focus for the game. Something like the Rangers melee is meant to be a primer, which then allows you to get a massive damage boost via a detonator you shoot from another weapon. Overall the gunplay was definitely worse then destiny and is fairly gun dependent (heavy pistol and rocket launcher felt great), but wasn't significantly far behind and some of the weapons are really unique (the explosive sniper rifle was nutz) or require some thought to use (the colossus heavy weapons etc).
Unlike destiny guns seem to take a slight backdrop to power usage and how powers interact with one another, weapons, and ultimates is significant. For instance the Storm ultimate resets the heat bar so you can jump up, hover for like 40s, then ultimate, then hover again for 40s without any gear. Then you can get gear that improves your heat times and all of the sudden that 40s becomes 75s, ultimate in air, then another 75s, and you are hovering for the majority of any fight, its just really item / build dependent and you start with basically 0 items and only get terrible items during the demo so its both hard to convey and was poorly done in the demo.As for the constant Mass Effect comparisons, it literally never crossed my mind and I outside of Brad and Jeff I don't think i've seen it mentioned by anyone in the forums / reddit. I expected this game to be a mix of Destiny, Warframe, and Diablo and thats exactly what it seems. I never expected an excellent story, just something better then Destiny or at worst case equivalent to Destiny 2's story.
Just here to say Jan's continued quick cuts to his disapproving face continues to delight. In this case, particularly when Brad was talking about RE2's "bespoke stuff like keys, one of which are shaped like a heart..." He's the best.

Say it with me everyone:
"Holy shit, Brad Shoemaker's here!"
i like James Woods
Brad I'd suggest skipping out on playing RE7 if you really liked REmake 2... as an insane RE fan I felt like that game was so disappointing in everything it tried to do. Poor characters, enemies, puzzles and a god awful story written by (for the first time) Western writers that clearly hadn't a clue on how to approach the story other playing off what he had done with FEAR.
Who knows you could love it but I hope REmake 3 is next and they actually try with RE8.

EVERYONE'S HE... oh, wait...
oof. that anthem talk- what a colossal bummer.
They played it as a shooter, it is an ability game with shooting when the short cd's are up. I fucking LOVED that demo. There are videos out from people who played the near final build and a lot of the issues talked about in this video are already fixed.
Both Animal Crossing titles sold more than 10 million copies, and are in the top ten titles sold for their platforms.
New Leaf surprised Nintendo by being really popular in the 19-24 y/o women demo and being the game they bought their console for. It’s a big game, maybe just not for our demo (I’m a huge animal crossing fan)

I bet it was a conscious decision by Capcom to wait a few hours to turn sliding door man into a zombie so that players would be surprised by it.
Glad you're back, Brad.
just wanna drop in here to say that you can turn Aim Assist on in RE2 on Normal (not sure about hardcore) but it's not on by default. There's even a slider that lets you control how much you want the reticle to slow down as you move it over a target. hope this helps somebody!
I'm all for more comedy in games so that resident evil dialog sounds fantastic. The characters are in a crazy situation that's lifethreatening. Yet they still have a lightheartness to them despite it all. FBI lady doesn't give enough fucks to take off her sunglasses or get this human safely out of the police station, eventhough a huge hand just crushed a man's skull. There might be zombies all around you, but that doesn't mean that there isn't time to woo a pretty lady. This guy is clearly dying but why not act like he's just waiting till you open a door for him?
That Starbreeze story is indeed a must read so let me link it here.

What's wrong with James Woods? Is being a conservative taboo now?
I mean, he's outwardly racist, hateful and has been accused of trying to have sex with minors. If that's what constitutes "conservative" in 2019 then yeah, it should be taboo.
The dialog in the RE2 remake drives me nuts. It feels like there's so little of it and it rarely has any substance to it. I would love to hear the opinion of someone who knows nothing about the original playing through this remake.
Brad's remarks about the aiming in RE2 are more linked to the input method than the game. Current controller designs just aren't suited for precise aiming. I really hope that the next generation of consoles would look more seriously into solving this problem.
Jeff: "Do they say NORTED because it's TORN backwards?" *long pause* "Or not quite, but..."
I have the flu now. I’m in NYC but I blame Brad
You guys need to do another Powerbombcast there's so much to talk about right now.
Big difference between being a conservative and spouting some of the awful shite he does on Twitter (though maybe not that big a difference)
@brad Sad to say but I concur with @elite49: the first hour and a half to two hours of "RE 7" are very solid, but it gets progressively worse in quality from there.
The game is essentially divided into four parts: the main house you quickly get to at the beginning of the game where you're dealing with the father of the demented family, a second section where you use a flamethrower to deal with a bunch of creepy-crawly shit, a third section filled with booby traps set up by the son in the demented family, and then a section where you're on a tanker.
The main house at the beginning is fantastic/the best part of the game, because it feels like a mini-mansion/similar to "RE 1," except with a different, even more disturbing atmosphere and in first-person. (And playing in first-person is novel for the series and feels cool. I'm not against them using that perspective again in a future game, though I think the mix of behind-the-shoulder third-person from "RE 4" with the more methodical/slow pace of "RE 2"/the classic entries is probably the best way to handle that aspect of the series going forward.) The second section where you're primarily using the flamethrower is okay, though it can be a bit annoying at times. The third section where you're dealing with the dipshit son's booby traps is likewise okay and has some decent puzzles. Neither the second or third sections are as strong as the beginning house/mini-mansion area--they're just okay.
But then the part on the tanker, which comprises roughly the last fourth of the game, is incredibly boring, poorly designed, with one of the worst enemy character designs I've seen in any game as your main antagonist (they aren't scary or interesting to fight and have zero distinctive characteristics--they're merely just annoying); it's just a chore to trudge through. It might be the worst section of any "Resident Evil" game ever made--yes, including the worst parts of 6. It's certainly up there as one of the worst. It's a shame, too, because if it was even just baseline "fine" I would probably more readily recommend the game, since the first 1/4 is good and the 2/4 and 3/4 sections are decent. But man it really dampens the experience.
So, with that said, if you're still interested in checking it out, I would highly recommend playing up to when you exit the mini-mansion (you'll know when this happens). If you feel satisfied from having just played that section, feel free to quit--you've experienced the best part of the game. If you're enjoying yourself enough that you want a bit more, playing up until you finish the section with the dumbass son's booby traps is still a decent overall experience, and you might find some of the puzzles relatively interesting/clever. But once you're done with that section I'd recommend stopping there. Skim through the rest via a video playthrough if you really want to see the ending narrative bits. Don't waste your time trudging through the tanker. That's what I feel would be the best way to approach/play the game, anyway.
Like everyone else said, glad to have ya back, Brad! Keep up the great work.
I'm currently playing through Resident Evil 2, and I'm having such a blast with it. Can't recommend it enough! And also, welcome back to the Bombcast Brad! :D

Kingdom Heart 3 does have a option view the "Story so far" to info dump in the beginning if you selected the "Help Me Remember" option during the stained glass tutorial. They have menu items of movies that sum up the Games in detail.
The videos are on their YouTube as well
Oh man...Resident Evil 5 & 6 trying to be like Gears of War?
Welcome back brad.
I'm not a Nintendo guy but why wasn't retro the lead or main people behind metroid from the start? Is it just because of that dk port-up? Or did I just misconstrue what they were saying.
Also I have the epic launcher installed, but I think its shitty to act like people who don't trust Tencent are tantamount to tin foil hat wearing chem trails belivers.
The Ultimate Ninja Storm devs aren't the same as the Tenkaichi devs.
UNS is made my CyberConnect2.
Tenkaichi is Spike Chunsoft.
CyberConnect2 has never made a DBZ game until now.
So are we going to get the same Anthem opinion/talk during the 2019 Game of the Year deliberations, where they don't bother to go back to it after only having played the beta? It's like they didn't even try to give the beta a shot. You don't need to only look for waterfalls to continue flying, if you dive down at an angle it cools your jets...like what were you guys even trying to do in that game except for compare it to Destiny? There's no doubting that the 3 month old build needs tweaking with player hub travel and some of the menu design...but I totally disagree with their criticisms on the gun play and combat/flight. They are talking about classes as if you had to make only one choice...it's not like Destiny guys! wake up! one character, you can swap between different mech suits or 'javelins' as you will depending on how you feel.
@brad - As far as I know, the current best way to play Code Veronica is the HD PSN version that came out for the PS3. Hope this information helps you out.

You seem to have missed the hover button, which is much more efficient then flight. Storm can stay up in the air for almost a good minute while hovering, and during that Storm shields can take increased damage. Then drop down for about 2 seconds to refill and jump back up again. (or reset with ult) You can also dodge/airdash during hover, and melee from the air. There are also gear items that can increase flight meter, ammo reserves, ammo/health drops, etc.
Why can't they just name whatever Brad is going off to play? They did it last week too with Anthem. It's so needlessly secretive.
i like James Woods
You like pro-life, conspiracy-theorizing, homophobic sexual predators?
> Broly was a boring blank slate
> Jiren is cool
Yeah ok. Jiren wasn't the worst antagonist in Super (hi Zamasu / Fused Zamasu) but come on
Lmao all that shade thrown at Mr. DoCyberConnect 2 make some amazing cutscenes. I dunno about their gameplay but I trust them to make a real good version of the DBZ story in game form. Like I'd sooner play those Ninja Storm games than watch more of the anime.
Just a quick note on the RE talk, RE4, 5 and 6 didn't have aim assist, and critical headshots have always been lurking in the background since the first game, i can't remember if certain guns are listed as having better crit chance in RE4, but RE5 definitely had guns with higher crit rates.... Also RE5 was certainly not like Gears of War, it was RE4 with strafing.

File naming was bad the last two bombcasts. My mp3 player is not happy
Wasn't Rocksteady making that Harry Potter 3rd person rpg thing that leaked a while back?
anthem was great and i really enjoyed that demo. the combat is fun as hell once you get going and i think that game has a lot of progress. i already feel much more of a hook to it than I ever have with destiny
Kingdom Hearts 3 is the twelfth game in the series and all of the other ones matter. There are a few good 30 minute to 1 hour long recaps on youtube that can get you caught up very well, but it's dumb as heck how much they put into those side games.

I would argue that the two Dragon Ball Xenoverse games are actually much, much closer to action-RPGs than they are fighting games. Stats matter, building your own character means balance is right out the window, and some of the moves are much, much more fun than they are practical.
If the people behind that are leaning into the RPG elements, I say that's a pretty good sign. A bad sign is the 135231 retelling of the events of DBZ. Unless they put in some cool side-stuff or branching paths (actually defeating Freeza with Piccolo, for instance), I can't see that being a very compelling game.
