When I was a kid in the 90s there was an ice cream shop in my town that did give out free Tootsie Pops in exchange for wrappers with the Native American aiming the bow and arrow at the star. Interestingly, the Tootsie Roll company actually has a web page called The Legend of the Shooting Star that is dedicated to this legend, and references a "shooting star" image that appears on one out of every four to six wrappers, but makes no mention of the Native American. The actual image is clearly a Native American aiming a bow at a star.

@hype: That's interesting. My granddad is Native American and when I was very little, he told me that if I collected a certain amount of those wrappers, I would get a prize. Up until this podcast, I always thought he made it up just to mess with me, but apparently it was kind of a real thing. Thanks for posting that.

Growing up in the 80s in Iowa I heard about the Tootsie Pop prize, too, though I don't know I ever tried to get a free one from anywhere.

I can't believe La Familia was a real stable. I wasn't watching wrestling at that time. I did name my family's text group La Familia as a way to flex my very limited knowledge of Spanish.
