I really like Left Alive.

I get it. I'm not saying it's a good game. It has jank. It has really weird idiosyncrasies and design choices. It solves problems other games copy from the bok of proven methods in it's own weird unnecessary ways (which I love) but will make people ask wtf were they thinking. People won't understand what it is going in. Other people will be mad it's not Metal Gear (its not Metal Gear). People will bounce off it hard.

I kind of love it.

It reminds me of the first Neir in a weird way. Neir was a terrible game.

But Neir was also amazing if you could stomach it.

I bought it on a whim because the way SquareEnix was sending it out to die, coupled with just a gut vibe I was getting from it, made me have to know for myself. Also I'm dumb. Fucking 80 bucks Canadian.

I feel bad for the devs because I know it'll be universally panned and flop hard... but I'm very thankful to whoever it was thar conned SquareEnix into letting them make this weird thing where they kind of ignore convention and did whatever they wanted instead. It's got some ideas.

Honestly it's filled the space in my gaming heart that Demon Souls did back in the day. It's a game a lot of people will immediately hate because it's off in it's corner doing it's own weird things. Meanwhile I'm going to keep banging my head against it and die a zillion times until I find the perfect solution to each scenario.

Hopefully it'll find it's audience because I think it's a special little b-game that really doesn't get made anymore in a world where you're either a super safe by the numbers AAA or an indie. a PS2 game that made it to PS3 in scope and shipped on PS4. That alone is worth a look.

I'm ok being the only person who likes it though :D
