GamerGate is still a thing and still as unbelievably idiotic as ever.

It's really unfortunate to hear that Control runs so poorly on the base PS4. You would think that a ton of people still have that model and haven't made the jump to the Pro yet. Hopefully Remedy addresses this issue.

While I straight up don't condone anything those Ion Fury devs are doing - I'm kinda indifferent to be honest - I do think it is behavior stemming from a growing frustration that developers are experiencing with hostile consumer feedback. With this disconcerting outrage culture we are experiencing these days, we are seeing devs increasingly more often lose composure when dealing with "gamers." Seeing review bombs, and angry mobs threaten developers in some really scary ways every time something isn't going their way is contributing to this toxic relationship between fan and creator.

So I can kind of see how another vocal outcry from the community demanding change "or else" would send these guys over the edge to irrationally defend something that doesn't warrant defending. In this case the outcry is more or less justified because the jokes were tasteless.. but on the other hand who really cares about some lame jokes? They are now defensively willing to die on this hill of asinine grade school humor, but on the flipside the "mob" is rallying pitchforks over something that similarly didn't need this much attention or pushback in the first place.

@benpack The puzzle that you took 20 minutes on with the light switch in the hotel. It tells you right when you press the switch the first time that everything happens in threes. All you do is press the light switch three times, the bell 3 times, and then the light switch again.

The "weird talking effect" Ben mentions about the Control:

Is just that he speak with heavy Finnish accent ("Rally English"), some lines are just pure Finnish and some are direct translations of Finnish expressions into English.

@humanity: Most of the outrage and all of the review bombing came after they took the gay jokes out and a certain group of people demanded that they were put back in. It wouldn’t be a true throwback without shitty homophobia, I guess.

Skipping the CONTROL bits, I have been so psyched about that game since I first saw it when the epic store launched, I am very, very ready for a new superpowers game. Bonus points if it's reminiscent of psi-ops as far as throwing stuff...which from the clips I've seen leans toward yes.

I get why there isn't a Ion Fury QL and I guess Astral Chain is under that weird Nintendo embargo where you can only post reviews or less than 15 minute videos, but where is the Remnant: From the Ashes quick look? I was curious to see that game covered more since I only heard about it from GB.

@beggary: It really isn't though. Jerks and trolls are omnipresent on the internet, no conspiracy is needed to explain why anonymous accounts are acting like assholes toward devs and game journalists.

Questions about what will be ‘cross gen’ releases seem a bit weird to me given Sony has confirmed all PS4 games will run in the PS5 and we can assume the same for Microsoft so everything is technically cross gen until they stop supporting the old consoles. I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of the big releases over the next 12 months get a PS4 Pro/One X style patch to take advantage of the extra power of the new consoles. With backwards compatibility I don’t think they can get away with the ‘upgrade fee’ we saw early in this generation

I think it says a lot about a dev who's willing to die on the hill of a gay joke. Shouldn't be hard to apologize and go ”we fucked up, sorry, we are adults and realize, we will remove the offensive content.” But no, as is always the case they put up a defense and cry out ”muh freeze peach, much censorship, outrage culture.” Never admitting to fault.

But what do you really expect from adults who enjoy mocking ”SJWs” on their discords and thinks the word f*gbag and gay puns are hilarious.

That was a bad description for the setup for Control.

I don't see anything offensive in both of those texts in Ion Fury. If you get offended by that little, you've got bigger problems in life than deciding whether to play an indie game or not.

On a serious note, as a Yank who loves F1, I am in constant fear that its days being broadcast on US TV are numbered. It seems to jump networks every 3-4 years, like a hot potato. I fear, at some point, someone will drop said potato.

In those 'SJW' vs 'GAMER' altercations it seems like it always boils down to the argument that the naughty gamers are the ones that will actually play the game and the SJW side only complains about games they don't play and i just wonder how true that actually is. Danny even said something like 'being cucked by your customers instead of listening to the group that wants to talk about your game'. Like i wouldn't mind swapping Olay for Ogay all that much, if the devs didn't behave like bigoted bellends on multiple accounts. So that's where i feel like i should just check out some other games instead. But i'd happily play a throwback 90's shooter with lowbrow humor despite not being cool with this particular instance.

Celebs that should have a boost to their image - I'd say Gordon Ramsey. Not sure if this is still a widespread issue, but it seemed like a bunch of people thought he was a huge asshole on the US kitchen nightmare series. Naturally, for US TV he had to ham it up. The dude is quite strict, direct & gets heated but it's always in service of helping people out with their struggling businesses.
