Giant Bombcast 602: Easy Chicken

A zillion games came out last week and we're here to talk about like 12 of them! Let's check in on Apple Arcade's lineup, Link's Awakening, and Borderlands 3. Then let's get into the news... is Valve going to have to let you resell your games? Weird! The small Switch is out now. Weird! All that plus a Last of Us II release date on this week's Giant Bombcast.

The Giant Bombcast is the world's most beloved video game podcast, and now it's available in video form.

I hope this is that last time they try doing live reactions to a video on the podcast. I didn't think it played at all.

It's O for go forward and X for 'back' in Japan, because O (or 'maru') means 'yes' in the language, and X 'batsu' means 'no'. It's related to the meaning of the symbols, not to their order.

I didn't mind the State of Play stuff and it seemed they were more interested in news from it -- with no interest in TLOU 2 so tuning out at the end made perfect sense.

I recall Beastcast watching Nintendo Direct in an episode last year. Not sure if people made a fuss about that too.

I will agree the audio is weird on this episode but what else is new.

Commenting on a live stream during the recording of a podcast. What a great idea! Not least when it's mostly just people talking about unrelated stuff over background trailer sounds. Avant-garde podcasting.

For Apple Arcade games you want to listen to podcasts while playing: hit play button on your headphones if it has one. It overrides it.

The State of Play segment was very rough to listen to as an audio listener. Them describing what happens on a video is only entertaining for like a minute, and then it becomes annoying. Then they started talking about other things while the audio of the broadcast was still playing, and that was incredibly grating. I hope they don't do that again.

On the flip side of that, I watched the State of Play video before listening to the podcast. So I actually really enjoyed that part. Thought it was funny commentary.

Just an alternative take I guess.

But the placement of those two buttons, and certainly the Nintendo buttons, could still be related to the direction that you read in Japan. Starting on the right, and ending on the left.

My understanding is that in the culinary world, that little flappy bit underneath the chicken breast is called a "chicken tender" or a "chicken fillet". So a real chicken tender would be a breaded, and fried one of these.

A chicken strip could just as well be nugget meat shaped into a bar.

About the seasonal time for games - fall and winter are the perfect times for a Skyrim playthrough. Mid-October through the end of February. You have the Riften area for autumnal-looking trees and stuff, and then of course all the snow everywhere. The fact that it was released in November probably has a lot to do with this, but I always think about playing Skyrim during those seasons.

This implications of this French ruling are insane. Should you also be able to resell MP3s and movies that you bought on iTunes or similar services? What about paid phone apps for that matter?

If this ruling doesn't apply to literally every digital good it's unfair to Valve. If it does apply to every digital good, the amount of things that are going to have to change is crazy.

If that goes through, I imagine they'll just change everything to a "service" to get around it. $60 no longer purchases a game, it's getting you a 100 year rental for $0.60 a year :)
