Required reading

I'd love to try some SFV, but wish Capcom would just let me pre-order the full Champions edition on Steam instead of the Upgrade pack (granted the original game is on sale).

Spent last weekend playing through Plague Knight, Specter Knight, and King Knight campaigns respectively and they are very good would recommend jumping back in if anyone hasn't played since OG Shovel Knight.

Remember all the hours spent on the podcast speculating and discussing PS4 Pro/Xbox One X rumors? And it all ended up being a bunch of nothing. PS4 pro can't even play first-party titles in 4k/60fps. It's funny looking back at it now and only seemes weirder with distance. These mid-generation upgrades that don't even improve games: They just enable them to not run like total garbage (see Control on base PS4).

Surprised Jeff is so hot on the Xbox reveal. I thought the general consensus is that it was a pretty weak reveal and forgotten by the end of the show.

Kind of hilarious that they didn't mention Culling 2 on biggest battle royale bombs. It's funny because it bombed so hard that why would you remember it. It lasted one week. ONE WEEK! Peak playerbase of 249. And this is from one of the games that kicked-off the battle royale trend.

Where the video the reason podcast sucks for me compared to video is they burn in oled tvs since it's a multiple hour static image.

Wtf Red Hot Chili Peppers were great up till the last 2 or 3 albums and they just got the best member of the band back. Greenday and Imagine Dragons fucking sucks.

It's been fine on my LG OLED for 3 years. No Burn in. I keep the OLED light at about 60.

I just read the first four Drizzt books this week. Last thing I expected was to hear his name on this podcast. It makes me worry that the game is going to be less of an RPG then I was expecting since character creation and customization will have to be limited.

That's good to know but I fall asleep laying in bed watching an audio podcast so I can only really make it through them if I watch people instead of just listening.

I feel like that bit Business Insider got about Microsoft just calling it Xbox is really just a marketing spiel that's not exactly true. It's not just Xbox. If every console they release in this generation is named Xbox Series [whatever] then by all accounts the name is Xbox Series.

@larmer: Linguistically, there’s no basis for “Xbox Series” to be the name of the console just because different iterations are called Xbox Series [some letter or number]. Unless they’re going to reveal some real marketing bullshit later, “series” is no different from “revision” or “edition.” It’s not part of the formal name of the product, and instead just indicates what iteration they are on. “Series” is more a part of the number/letter indicator than it is part of the Xbox title.

Also it’s super wild that the Xbox is just suddenly switching to the European car naming scheme, more or less out of nowhere.

Absolutely, it's not just the Xbox, it's the Xbox Series X. If Microsoft really thought that the "Series X" name was something akin to a model number and not a name, then they've communicated it horribly. Besides, who starts model numbering/lettering with an X... If anything the Xbox One name felt more close to naming it just the Xbox - maybe they should have just went with Xbox Two.

@lonelyspacepanda: Weird, the buzz I see around is definitely not that everyone forgot about it. I mean, regardless of how anyone feels, do you honestly thing the gaming sites and YouTube channels are NOT going to do videos so they can make money on whatever is currently a hot topic?

People are talking - because of course they are. Anything MS, Nintendo or Sony do something new (like a new gen), everyone is talking, and the gaming sites and channels have a vested, financial interest in covering it.

So are video podcasts now premium only?

Guys, website bugs happen frequently. Apparently a lot of GB's CMS is still super manual because it seems a person has to manually check boxes that determine if something is available to Free/Premium users. It gets missed lots of times with uploads, both audio and video. Go look at past episodes of the Bombcast. Free Video is still there. Try reaching out to staff/mods either here with an @ or on Twitter or something and ask them to look into it.

Changing something as major as what a certain type of content is available to non members and free members would be a pretty big business decision that I'm sure would be accompanied by an official announcement. They wouldn't just slide a site change like that under the radar.

Anyway, if future console are called "Series 2" than you would be wrong - the name is simply "Xbox" and differing pseudo gens and sku's are "Series X", "Series S", "Series 2 X", "Series 2 S". (unless they abandon the naming in the future, of course - but it seems they are going more phone-like and apple-like with the naming, and less what is typical for consoles but is more typical for other electronics).

WRT the free-video talk - it's also not up on YouTube and usually it would have been by now, I believe. Usually the free version here is up quicker, but YouTube is also delayed given this is the day after and and now afternoon on the East Coast.

@binarygod: so the Xbox has always done this then by your account of things. The 360? No, it was just called Xbox. The skus were 360 arcade, 360 pro, 360 Elite, but the console was just simply Xbox. Xbox One? No no, it was only Xbox, with the One sku, the One S sku, and the One X sku.

Nothing I have said (about Series X/the new generation of Xbox's) has anything to do with what they use to do, I even clearly state it will be different than what is typical for consoles (which would include MS, a company with consoles for almost 20 years).

To be clear, and to remove what would have been a lot more text:

Business name -> generational name - sku name

Playstation -> Playstation 3 -> Slim (cardboard box says "PlayStation 3 Slim")

Playstation -> Playstation 4 -> Pro (cardboard box says "PlayStation 4 Pro")

Playstation -> Playstation 5 -> (at some point) Slim (cardboard box probably says "PlayStation 5 Slim")

Xbox -> Xbox 360 -> Arcade (cardboard box says "Xbox 360 Arcade")

Xbox -> Xbox One-> S (cardboard box says "Xbox One S")

Xbox -> Xbox -> Series X (cardboard box probably says "Xbox Series X")

Effectively, the sku name IS the name, or rather, the generational name effectively goes away. If you are going to have more than one sku (probably also a "Xbox Series S" based on Lockhart leaks) with much larger differences in power (4K60 vs 1080p60) right from the get-go, and you want two supported "generations" of consoles (Series 2 and Series 3 must be supported by devs, for an example), this naming scheme makes sense.

Brad Sams has a video (the one from the title that would seem to be about the Series X dimensions), where he quotes a MS/Xbox employee saying that "Series X" is just a sku name and they are simply calling the new consoles(s) "Xbox" (as apposed to a previous gen where they called it "Xbox 360" and sku's added modifiers to that name like "Xbox 360 Arcade"). This would be like if last gen, there was no "360" and they just called the consoles "Xbox Arcade" and "Xbox S".

@avioto: the GB staff skews toward controller use so them treating the steam controller like an XBox controller and playing something like Outer Wilds which is built to be played with a standard controller is not suprising. I wouldn't use the Steam controller to play doom or DMC. It's best used on strategy, puzzle or crpg with a top down/iso view where you need to be able to click on a field of objects/icons, which make up a large bulk of PC games. But it's easier to just dismiss it as worthless.

then again, there are a ton of videos that are supposedly premium that anyone can view, on this site, and some videos that are totally missing. so i wouldn't put it past them for it just to be a mistake that they haven;t noticed yet. or will never notice. whatevs.

@binarygod: frankly I don’t think it makes any practical sense that you just put the word “Series” after the -> instead of before it.

MS employees can try and say it differently all they want, but this console generation of Xbox will practically be known as XS because every console in it is an Xbox Series something. The word Series is being used as a gen moniker. That’s an odd use of that word, but it is what it is.

Sometimes customers really do just get their talking points and charge forward.

You guys were way off about Sonic. Mobius was only in the 90s Saturday morning cartoon and Archie Comics. In Sonic X it was established that Sonic and friends are from "Sonic's World," but no official name has ever been given. This has been considered game canon since Sonic X aired, but there are still humans on Sonic's planet.

Mobius, on the other hand, was actually a post-apocalyptic Earth. They fought aliens and stuff. Those comics and that 90s cartoon they were based on were the origins of Sonic's love of chili dogs as well.

The tags in the video show that they talk about Hellblade II, but unless I missed something they never actually bring it up. Can someone share a timestamp or something if they caught it?

The paddle extension for the DualShock 4 may be releasing in preparation for PS5. If the DualShock 5 comes with paddles, there may be a need for paddles on the DS4 for cross-gen titles.

@amreese: I don’t have a time stamp but they basically mention that it’s an exclusive launch title for the new Xbox. They don’t say much more than that.

Its wild to me that they're still basically using SFV's launch to be down on it when the game has been in a great state for a while now. Especially with this new patch that dropped that everyone universally loves. Not even a single mention of Idom's godlike run to win it all.

David Icke is the guy who came up with the reptillian aliens taking over world governments thing. Seems like the east 17 guy is very much a tom delonge type of guy, but way, WAY worse. This is a step or two beyond Alex Jones even.
