I like the ps5 controller because it looks like it feels a lot more comfortable than the DualShock 4. I think it is good that they are moving away from a, albeit aesthetically pleasing, controller design from 1995. The questionable two tone color scheme be damned.

I don't see why GamesCom should cancel. This week Austria was the first EU nation to exit quarantine, followed by Denmark. It's only the start of April. By August, I imagine most things will be back to normal -- though I can see some not wanting to travel or attend a major conference just yet. But I can also see others think "woah, I can finally go to GamesCom and play games and not be in a massive crowd!".

In fact, this may be the year where GamesCom really overtakes E3. It's perfectly aligned with E3 cancelled and next gen systems coming out.

Jeff’s point about making assumptions about people once they say “Aerith” instead of “Aeris” is hilarious and spot-on.

You don't yet know what the long term consequences of those decisions are, but also, many other places are not even close. Even IF things are better then, most will not want to go to a place that is guaranteed to spreading SOMETHING even if somehow it is not covid.

@lonelyspacepanda: I'd rather everyone be safe than sorry. Going digital is not that bad to be honest.
Games can be postponed till later, human safety, can't.
There's still no cure for the virus yet, so why risk reinfecting everyone again? Even Singapore which managed to control the outbreak, decided to do a mini-lockdown for a month, and discovered 100+ more cases.

As someone who didn't touch FF7 until the late 2000s and Aerith was already the name in every case, that distinction is so lost on me. It's like when people call Final Fantasy VI "three" or something. It's just the incorrect name, same as when games had bad translations a la "I Feel Asleep", or any other busted thing that's been corrected over the years.

Reminds me of watching a Michael Jordan doc one time and Orlando Magic fans had a poster that said 'MICHAEL NEVER WON A RING WITHOUT HORACE", gotta love those outdated sports disses.

I'm slightly against music in the background of the emails section, but not enough to keep me from listening. Appreciate the crew keeping the Bombcast going through all this and I'm always cool with them trying new things to spice it up.

@lonelyspacepanda: I'm Danish and can tell you that the quarantine is far from over. Far from. It's a super slow, and very careful, gradual opening. The Danish government have decided to only open kindergartens and the first five grades of school.

They will see how that goes. If the number of infected starts to rise again after this slow, and small, opening we will close down and go back to the lockdown state that we are in right now.

The government is playing it very safe. We don't want another China on our hands.

The truth is that it is going to be a long time before things will go back to anything resembling normal and that really bums me out.

It's understandable why it has to be this way but it's still not fun to think about.

Walking my brother through both cooking for himself and saving food has been unbelievable. It's like I'm talking to a 10 year old and not a guy in his 40's haha.

Played Xbox exclusively for four years, then I got a PS4. Within days of Apex launching, I've got tendonitis in my thumbs. Dropped Apex after awhile, thumbs are fine. Warzone launches, I play it on PS4 with my friends - tendonitis in thumbs again.

I looked this up, and it turns out a lot of people have this problem with PlayStation thumbstick positioning and the thumbstick click resistance (you're clicking the thumbsticks basically the entire time you play FPS games, relative to other types of games). As such, I'm very disappointed they are keeping the centered thumbstick positioning, though I understand it's their trademark at this point. I hope they at least drop the click resistance or somehow address this ergonomic flaw.

@kcin: I have played Playstation games all my life basically. I have never had any problems with the PS4 controller. For me the PS4 controller is their best and most comfortable controller to date. I have had all weekend play sessions with the PS4 controller and I never had any issues with my hands or fingers.

Sad to hear that you have had problems with it. But for me the controller doesn't have an ergonomic flaw and it's way to broad to just generalize as an universally agreed upon problem which it's not.

You can totally freeze eggs. Ive tried them lightly beaten in twos. Made scrambled egg with them, cant tell the difference. Ive also seen them cracked whole into an ice tray. You can also freeze milk, so long as the container you put it in has room for freezing expansion.

I can't speak to playing it alone but like Vinny recounted on a stream recently, I had a ton of fun playing through it with a friend. We even got a guide and went through it a few times to get all those medals and stuff. If you're coming at it from being a big fan of RE1 and RE2 with a bigger focus on puzzle solving and a slower pace then yah I can totally see how someone might be really let down by it. I think there were plenty of people of similar mindset that were not thrilled with RE4 either for those same reasons.

@kcin: I was a X360 guy for the entire previous generation and then switched to PS4 at the start of this one, and my hands cramped constantly after prolonged use of the DS4 for the first month or so. Once I powered through it my hands somehow got used to it but I was surprised how weirdly uncomfortable it was at first.

I salute Sony for trying to spice things up. Everything about the Xbox announcement was so dull. With that said, I'm not a fan of the cool white color scheme, nor of the lack of color on the four buttons on the right. But overall it sure looks more comfortable than the DS4.

That microphone included with the controller is most probably there for voice control of the console.

RE5's gameplay is okay, enemies are not too bullet-spongy.

RE5's setting is racist whether it's intentionally to be one or not.

There's a reason why even now, African Americans are still being hit the hardest by COVID-19, why French doctors are still suggesting testing vaccines on African countries, which is pretty much eugenics.

It's not like CAPCOM don't have enough dead IPs they can't remake, for example:

  • Lost Planet featuring Nic Cage
  • Dino Crisis with Ed Sheeran playing as Regina.
  • Megaman Legends 1, 2 and 3 with Keiji Inafune and Tim Turi as main villains
  • Onimusha with that PPAP guy replacing Takeshi Kaneshiro
  • Dragon's Dogma 2, but only the intro menu with the sick B'z song.

Its worth noting that a lot of parents here are talking about refusing to send their children to schools/kindergartens. And as a person with a 8 year old i don't blame other parents having that line of thinking.

If there is a group that aren't able to do proper guidelines when it comes to social distancing and general hygiene that would be it.

Not to mention we still have restrictions on how many people can gather in one group, i have zero idea how a kindergarten will even begin to maintain those rules.

So its safe to say Denmark is still not in a safe place, its still evolving.

I don't see the value in the "u mad?" approach to criticism. Of course, video games have a huge problem with toxicity, but if you're reflexively branding every change that makes people upset as positive, you're no different from those who reflexively brand every change as negative.

And, *that* said, I will again note - having read the Big Spoiler, I would definitely want to know it going in to temper my expectations were I an FF7 fan. That is a huge bait-and-switch.

@meierthered: That's interesting. Thanks for the info from Denmark! Hope ya'll stay safe out there!

There is no question this will happen in waves. In the States, it's pretty much accepted school won't start this year and if it does it will likely only be Nov/Dec.

But I do see some stuff going back to normal relatively soon, at least for younger/healthier citizens -- at least in areas where testing was done enough to declare it a "green zone" where the flu is under control.

In any case, I can see why GamesCom doesn't want to cancel yet. Unlike E3, its location and time frame makes it a bit more questionable.

It is amazing to see so many people speak poorly about New Horizons for not having features of previous Animal Crossing games...when it fully does. So much speaking about "hey the last ones did all this over time"...this one has been out not even a month, and I'm already seeing so much that people here and elsewhere have complained that New Horizons doesn't have. No one has any memory of how slow the previous games were and just remember their highs they had playing them. It's bonkers

As someone who has been involved with the planning for a trade show, normally, they take months of prep. Therefore, I would imagine, even if things were back to normal in August, the backlog caused by things being at a standstill now may impact preparedness.
