@aperebus: You can get a decent simple split AC for like 300-400 EUR with installation. Shouldn't be that expensive in the states.

505 Games should have gone the Skyrim route on PC. If you had the OG Skyrim and the DLC on Steam you got the Remastered version for free.
Jeff was wondering if there was a game as old as Control that got an upgrade, and I believe Skyrim was older than Control is right now when Bethesda rolled out Skyrim Remastered.

@bsmittel: Didn’t they just say that the melee combat didn’t feel right? Depending how much of it there is in the game it can be either a minor or major issue at lunch. I can’t think of many games that had satisfying first person melee combat really - Condemned 2?

Not to defend Apple, but corporations aren't shoveling billions into Epic under the assumption that Tim Sweeney's Metaverse(TM) will be a fair and open platform.

@jeff where does this idea that we didn't have arcades in the UK come from? If you lived on a coast you were drowning in seaside arcades but even if you didn't there was never a shortage of machines to play.

50 foot hot dog discussion reminded me of a place I used to live near that sold sausage or bacon baguettes in either half yards or yards. Great little place but I never managed a full yard. I must return now I'm older and fatter.

The avengers combat is not just those three HUD buttons, those are your specials that have a timer. There's a whole deeper skill tree you can unlock to form your own combo's.

@ravelle: Been hearing that people are making combo videos and such. So it's not just watching cooldowns like an MMO. Haven't played it myself, but you seem to know more. Is the combat more interesting than game sites are letting on?

The fruit in Fall Guys has intentional seams modeled into them to suggesting that they are inflatables and not real fruit. So the debate continues. I thought this was a cool little detail to make them what you'd see if this was a real world game show.

I got my first crown the other night, which is the first time I've won any kind of battle royal style game. Now, I am never going to play the game again :)

I'm one of those people Ben talked about-- deliberately deleted my FB account. I've been free of it for about 5 years. I have an Oculus and I don't want to be made to get back into FB to use it. I guess by 2023, if that's correct, when I'll be forced to do it, I'll move on to a different headset? I presume there will be advances by then that will be worth moving on. Or maybe I'll just... not use anything.

@csl316: It is, I've been playing a bunch of Black Widow and she's really fun to play, it's not just just mashing melee buttons, with all the different moves you can unlock you can chain them to keep the momentum going. You can combo melee moves with your projectile moves to juggle people in to the air or kick up in the air and do air combo's, Black widow for example has a grappling hook which can pull you toward the enemy on the ground and in the air.

There's also different type of enemy types that have perfect dodge, or have shields or just adapt to you so you have to mix things up.

@ravelle: Huh. As someone that doesn't care about loot, but likes cool combat systems and Crystal Dynamics games... I might have to give this a real shot.

Just seems like this game's had a negative light on it ever since it was revealed that they don't look like the MCU characters. Like folks just want to hate on it for any reason they could find. This coming from a pretty casual Marvel fan.

@bsmittel: Yeah, I'm constantly surprised at the basic news that they don't get, and it's just that, it's their job to know this stuff; this is what they get paid for. I mean 30 minutes a day looking at the "big sites" (kotaku, polygon, ign, gamespot, gameinformer) and you get everything you need.

Interstate 76 in VR is one of my dream games. What an amazingly underrated game that is.. The visual style looks cool to this day.

They could redo BattleZone 98 as well... That's another underrated game for sure... But it's probably not going to have more apeal today than back then. So many legitimately great games from around 98 that got outshone by some of the best games of all time. Rough time to release a great game..

Ehh I don't really agree with the first bit of Jeff's take on the Facebook and Oculus thing. Ben was pretty much saying what I feel. There's a big difference between "Facebook owns the headset I'm using with an email address" and "I'm using the headset while attached to my full Facebook account with all of my personal and life information on it". Yes, Facebook is probably already taking data off of the headset. But without an account they can't get data on who my friends are, what I like or dislike, who my family members are, where I work, what links I click on, what political or social topics I engage with etc. Those are not comparable and it sucks for a ton for people who still want some degree of control over their privacy.

It's also kinda weird to say that people can just get another headset. Oculus Quest is expensive at $400 but to some people, a few hundred dollars is a huge deal. And that would also be a few hundred dollars on top of already buying the Quest for people like me who bought it before this was a thing.

It's a crappy decision but I guess complaining isn't really useful. I say that because I do agree with the second part of what Jeff said. Facebook isn't gonna care, they know they're gonna get tons of users who don't care or who already use Facebook in the first place. Refusing to collect tons of data off of all users is not worth satisfying a minority of people who are upset by it.

Edit: Found the video. It's this UPF at 1:25:55 but they also watch really weird old training videos throughout which are great.

That list of Avengers characters includes stuff like ultimate abilities for existing characters. The Hulk Buster armor is part of Iron Man's abilities, not its own character.

All the characters also play fairly differently.

I also don't get the "all the enemies are the same" complaint because that's literally every game. Destiny is full of samey enemies.

Also, the villain of the game is shown in the first mission of the beta, but unless you know who MODOK is, you won't figure that out.

Hey guys, just a little thing here: would it perhaps be possible for Jeff to record the show on his end? There seem to be all sorts of weird audio glitches / skips whenever he speaks. Maybe this could be remedied that way?

We had the same issue on a video call and for us it was just one person hearing the glitched/skipped stuff.. just a thought.

Considering the success of the Quest, maybe Sony will be trying to make the next PSVR a standalone device?

For a specific period of time, which is normal for most retail spaces. The only reason Steam doesn't have a history of doing this is because they were the only show in town forever.

@warpr: You know, you're right. PSVR should just be my alternative. I own a PSVR headset now, and I had only bought the Quest so I didn't have the cords. If Sony does their next iteration without cords, not only would I buy that, but of course I'd be buying a PS5.

I do still need a good reason to buy a PS5, and that should be it.

Look, I am sure there are tons of things in media that I enjoy that don't make any sense under scrutiny and are only designed that way to make them look cooler. But there's something about the specific way FF games choose to have their cool bullshit that puts me off. It even has a revolver cylinder!

Normal? Normal is paying for exclusivity, Epic is paying to keep a lot of games off Steam. There's a difference.

And now Steam has plenty of competition and they're still not doing exclusive deals, so that reasoning doesn't make a lot of sense to me.
