Yes, there is a rubber duck in Control. Its one of the items you have to find for one of the NPCs in the game during a side quest. It constantly disappears and reappears and you have to listen for the quacks to find it.

There was an 80's Video Power cartoon where, I want to say Solid Snake drove around in Big Foot with a tomato, a sports ball guy, and some barbarian tagging along...

That would be The Power Team, which included such gaming luminaries as Kuros from Wizards and Warriors, Guy from NARC, and Guy from Arch Rivals. I guess Captain N already cornered the market on the good video game stars (and Kid Icarus).

The Content of the Universe:

  • Visible Matter - 5%
  • Dark Matter - 27%
  • Goombas that walked off the side of the screen (commonly referred to as Dark Energy) - 68%

Solved. Nobel prize is in the mail, I'm sure.

There absolutely is a rubber duck in Control and when I went to do his mission I was terrified to walk Jess in there. Very threatening aura.

@jeff Try Playnite, it's MUCH better than GOG Galaxy. GOG Galaxy has had the slowest development and I would constantly have problems it not being able to authorize with Steam until a reboot.

Playnite can even do almost all emulators/roms. So you can launch games directly from it. It can also close launchers when you exit the game. I can't believe I went so long without it. Such a time saver.

Launchbox is another option, but it costs money and this has been great.

I played the Pyromancer in Outriders as well, it was fine, but the game really started to shine while playing coop, and having your abilities stack with a friend. Enemies/bosses have a tougher time overwhelming you if you have a friend warping in as a trickster, and fucking them up with void? energy, while you ignite/explode them with flames. The story/writing/voice acting, is adequate, it's not terrible, it does what it needs to.

Regarding live games, or games as a service: those developers expect you to continue paying them for the game, after the fact, either with a subscription, or for more content that they drip out. Outriders feels like the Kingdom of Amalur of 3rd person action adventure games. Designed like Destiny/Division, seemingly has all those trappings, but the developer is like, naw just pay us for the game, and that should be good. There's also crafting, which isn't in the demo, but they do have you collecting mats.

I know Amalur was supposed to be an MMO, but they had to pivot. Not sure if Outriders was supposed to be a live game or not, but the developer has only said so far that it wasn't. We may have stories trickle out post-launch, though, who knows.

The problem with having nothing else planned, content-wise, post main game, is that people seem to like blowing through games as fast as possible these days, and then complain when the endgame is broken or incomplete. So we'll see how this goes.

@daveo42: Melancholia is fascinating but I don’t really want to watch it ever again nor would I really recommend it to anyone that isn’t really into that “sorta thing”

The premium podcast feed has an Ad for Harry's Shaving in it. I don't mind too much because I have not heard Jeff do an Ad read in years but thought I would point it out.

@humanity: Honestly not trying to be snobbish, but: Melancholia is probably his most "normal" film? I liked, but didn't love it. I thought it was more metaphor than story. Also haven't been able to finish Antichrist. My favorite of his is Dogville, but I haven't watched it in a decade. Would also recommend his Danish Twin Peaks-esque TV show The Kingdom. Bizarre horror/sitcom/workplace drama.

I knew Danny lived in MD for a couple of years, but I didn't know he was in Edgewater. Huh. I don't live super close, but it's not that long of a drive. We go there sometimes for seafood. (Well, pre-pandemic, anyways.)

For the email about the New Japan shirt: that guy in the Wyoming gas station was not disappointed that you did the wrong thing, but rather he was bummed that you clearly were not as excited as he was. I used to experience the same thing - for a lot of high school, I wore a Tennessee Titans hoodie that was a hand-me-down from my brother. I personally do not give two shits about football; it was merely a nice hoodie. Numerous times I'd have someone approach me and try to talk about the football season or whatever, and I would engage in the conversation as little as possible so as to make it clear that I didn't want to talk to them. Often they were disappointed.
