Jan you're wrong in the PC version of Nier being locked to 30, however it is *kinda* locked to 30 because it's such an absolute technically broken nightmare right now that even with a 20 series card and good processor I'm struggling to hit above 50 FPS.

Also don't feel bad about your problem my guy I literally went to 20 different Walmarts and Targets in a 60 mile radius to score Magic Booster Boxes last year and I'm doing great (I am not, in fact, doing great).

If haven't seen Mortal Kombat 2021 yet and plan to, skip the first 30mins. Though its not that big of a deal.

@frojomojo: I haven't listened yet, but is Jan referring to the PC version of Replicant? If so, I'm playing that version and am getting a locked 60 FPS at 4K. But, I have a pretty beefy PC (R9 3900XT and 3070). For reference for others, there is some weirdness though. There was a stutter for me when I used exclusive fullscreen but it's fine borderless. Also, I've heard higher than 60 FPS leads to problems. But I believe a person over at the Nexus site made a fix for that.

Nier runs 60FPS on ALL consoles.

The 1995 MK is way better. The new MK is passable at best, but the way the protagonist is written just sucks.

Why bother releasing cyberpunk onn PS5 or PS4 at this point? The game is bad. Even without bugs the game is bad. I hope they don't put effort into this dumb multiplayer for it just move onto the next game. Let cyberpunk die and move on

Talking about how CD Projekt Red wouldn't have ways to refund, but CD Projekt is the company that started and owns GOG.com (though it is run as a subsidiary). It's not like they have no experience in refunds and sales.

@jasonr86: The current problem with the PC port is that much like the Souls games the framerate is tied to gameplay so if you go above 60 FPS the game will literally start speeding up and playing faster than intended. The easy go-around for this is to go to your Nvidia control panel or AMD equivalent and FPS lock the game executable to 60 FPS until an official patch corrects it.

I didn't play the Jak trilogy until the HD remasters came out on PS3 and I loved Jak 1 and thought 2 and 3 were hot garbage.

Still never played a Ratchet game maybe I'll like those better.

Airblade was my favorite game to play on PS2 demo kiosks in Target. Also, the Jak II demo was very confusing to me, as someone who never played Jax & Daxter but had seen it before, because it was so wildly different.

I'm sure the guy in line was an asshole and it should be handled better, but I don't think a kid should be allowed to cut in line just because they're a kid. That leads to them thinking it's ok to get away with that kind of stuff even when they're older. We have enough of those people already.

That emailer was smart when he lied about his age to get an online girlfriend. I had a RuneScape "girlfriend" for a couple of months when I was in 6th grade, and age simply never came up. But then once it did, and I told her the truth that I was 12, she immediately logged off and I never saw her again. The whole catfish/predator angle did occur to me in later years, but I don't think they were one, considering they ran away when they found out how old I was. I think that would be exactly what a predator would aim for.

Danny's not quite right about the WoW enforcement. I think it depends on what GM you get to help you. I was in a guild once, where one night, the guild leader wanted to leave the guild (without telling anyone) and decided to be an asshole about it by kicking everyone from the guild in the dead of night so he could take the guild bank's contents for himself. We reported this, and were told it was a player social issue that they could do nothing about. But I got a slight payback when a year later that jerk happened to join the guild I was in (a different guild). I told them what he did, and he was kicked.

@jan I have/had a similar problem with mtg cards. I solved my problem by getting addicted to WH40K. The randomness of booster packs is really, really scummy, and even though wh40k is expensive, there's not really any need to buy more than exactly what you want.

The MK movie was fine. Dumb fun, but go in with zero expectations.

Re: The zero carb bread (I've gotten it at Aldi before) it doesn't have zero total carbs, it has zero net carbs. Net carbs = total carbs - dietary fiber. Your body can't digest dietary fiber and doesn't absorb it AFAIK so carbs from that don't "count" towards your daily carb intake. It's basically bread that's 100% dietary fiber. That said, it's pretty alright. You do want to go back to real wheat bread after a while but if you want to do low carb for a stretch but you don't have the time for a ton of meal prep it at least gives you sandwiches back as an option.

Nier is 60fps on all versions. Some drops on the base consoles but yeah. 1080p on Pro and 1440p on One X. The loading times are significantly faster on the series consoles than the PS5 running on Backwards compatibility for some strange reason. We’re talking 5 seconds compared to 15 on initial load

@Arkham_91 the faster load times are actually a bit a of a problem to as they start throwing some plot details in those loading screen and if I am not paying attention they can be missed. Like I see Yohan's journals a dozen times and is fine, but like lab notes don't come up often and suddenly it is gone. Wasn't the case on my 360 version.

As someone who never really grew up with playing games in arcades; I can't really play a fighting game especially a 2D one on a modern PS/Xbox style controller. Without an arcade stick, I don't even feel like I'm earnestly controlling the game, it always feels like there's a barrier to what I'm doing in the game.

Even in the PS4 gen when I didn't have an arcade stick that gen (but did on PS3/360) I tried to get used to it but never could. Hell prior to having one on the 360 I always felt sort of hobbled when playing a Street Fighter type of game, an arcade stick just feels so much more direct and natural for that type of game.

Yeah, like I get that most of the GB senior staff has crazy nostalgia for MK 1-3, but to the general masses of video game players and other people who might see an MK movie, MK is:

• campy fighting tournament or something
• that cool ice guy who is blue
• the yellow guy who is a demon man with spears or something
• that MK techno song from the movie

Like you said, there is no memorable music from any of the games, other than maybe the couple notes that chime leading into a finish him/fatality moment. The MK techno music is iconic because the actual games have seemingly never tried to establish memorable title screen/stage/character music that I can recall in any way.

Bad choice for a thumbnail. Someone could've at least added a number or a bombcast logo so it would be more distinguishable.

I respect that Jeff and Brad are so opposed to the MK movie theme, but it is also extremely funny how out of touch they are with what most people know about MK.

Even my friends, who are in their thirties and have been fans of MK their entire lives, don’t know the theme came from the movie. It’s just the Mortal Kombat theme.

Also extremely funny for Brad to call out the MK theme for being a relic from the early 90’s, as if that doesn’t describe... all of MK. lol

Noclip series on Jak & Daxter, Ratchet & Clank and Sly Cooper is the only way to make up for your crimes on skipping them, Danny.

Actually at this point, probably best to just wait for Rift Apart. Then maybe at some point they’ll put out those HD collections on PS5.

Few things about Nier, outside of the fps stuff people mentioned, lot of spoiler tags to be on the safe side soooooo here we go!

Kaine doesn't have just one reason for the clothing, but two! One you learn of real early that gets more detailed later into the game. The second is in expanded material like Grimoire Nier, I believe. Some character spoilers, but if you're interested: The first reason you learn in the game is that Kaine is possessed by a shade. Shade's are weak to sunlight, the lack of clothing is to help keep it at bay. The second reason is that she was born intersex (both parts downstairs) and wears the lingerie as a means to accentuate her femininity. It's touched on a bit in the game in the B playthrough but doesn't go super into detail, iirc. The "Witche's Sabbath" story in Grimoire Nier gives some more detail and gets very explicit towards the end of it.

The game is the same as the original, just prettier + better combat. The dlc from the original is included, which lets you play as the other version of the protagonist (in Gestalt we could play as the brother, Japan got to play as the dad). So yes, you'll be able to play as the dad via that dlc. The other new thing is the "Mermaid" thing, new side mission I think it is, which is an adaption of one of the short stories in Grimoire Nier called The Little Mermaid. There's also a 5th ending, ending E which is an adaption of a story from Grimoire Nier too called "The Lost World". Also I believe Jan mentioned it, but to get endings C&D you just need to have all the weapons. Think he mentioned you had to get them all + all the outfits and maybe upgrade everything?

The script for Gestalt and the original Replicant were near 1-1, both of the protagonists had the same lines. A few things were changed (one of your party members is explicitly gay in Replicant, not as explicit in Gestalt for example) but nothing to serious. Imo, the brother just feels so much better in terms of story and the dialog works with him more. You go from a naive/hopeful kid in the first part of the game to a much more jaded one later on and that shift doesn't work as well with a dad, along with the redesign (papaNier just got a weird bdsm mask?) being more drastic in Replicant.

Drakengard 1 Ending E is what Nier is a sequel too, From the wikipedia (if anybody cares about Drakengard 1 joke ending spoilers): Instead of using Seere's power, Caim and Angelus fight the Queen-beast directly. They unleash the time consumed by the Queen-beast, which drops all three into modern-day Tokyo, Japan. Defeated in a battle of songs, the Queen-beast crumbles to ashes before Caim and Angelus are killed by a missile from a Japanese fighter jet.

Jeff's preciousness about Mortal Kombat and how the famous song from the 1995 film by The Immortals has nothing to do with any of the games, especially the notable mainline games that are actually good (MK2, UMK3, MK9, X, 11) is pretty funny. While I totally recognize his point, as well as see MK's influence being old silly Asian martial arts movies and not that shit…it's still part of the dumb fun MK can get into and is known for. There's a lot of that tacky mainstream 90s techno out there like a lot of corny music trends of yesteryear people will always dislike but that song is such a silly dumb romp it is hard to hate.

Especially when those silly melodramatic martial arts films influence everything from Shenmue to…well Mortal Kombat; there's room for more to its aesthetic (and obviously it has become more of a grimdark gore-fest over time.)

It reminds me of hardcore Pokemon fans who push back on people confusing things from the anime with being in/from the mainline games themselves. But in the case of Pokemon the anime was so popular and synonymous with the property that it did bleed over into the games a bit. Pokemon Yellow was certainly a direct reaction to the anime's huge popularity, that popularity/financial success basically created that game and made decisions on its design. There have been some anime things that try to be more faithful to the games though, which has been a cool novelty. As far as I know no MK game has never featured that song, but I've only played the major ones I mentioned before lightly over the years.

I'm fascinated by how weird the dudes are about the PS4/5 rest mode, I've been using it constantly on both the 4 and 5 and never had an issue with it; obviously online-based games like Destiny kick you back to the menu but single-player stuff has never been a problem.
