Aw I had a similar experience buying my house. We did the whole letter thing ... we didn't realise the people we were buying from were just moving a few doors down across the street. They also helped us with all the quirks to it. Now we're drinking buds and they gave me a vintage Ned's Atomic Dustbin t-shirt when they found out I was a fan lol.

@jeff: I'm no expert but I have gotten into some porcelain shenanigans. Apparently, when one is replacing/reinstalling toilets it's highly recommended that you replace the wax seal that seals the base of the toilet to the plumbing.

I've done this a few times and it's a little gross but not hard if you have a putty knife some disposable gloves and a garbage bag. One does need to take care not to drop any wax down the pipes.

Always interested, but also doubtful, about proc gen, especially at scales overly ambitious. No Man's Sky's first pitch discussed on a bombcast long ago was just laughable, honestly, because they thought they could fully simulate biology and evolution. Nah.

So has Jeff moved out of California? Because they don't allow those letters to the seller anymore. Like is there going to be a studio anymore?

@mondocool: I caught him saying that, but I doubt Jeff moved to Canada, unless there's another Saskatoon I don't know about. Unless his wife is Canadian, I don't think us Americans can just buy a house in Canada and move there full-time. Also, that's a 25+ hour drive from Petaluma, whereas when Jeff talked about it before it just sounds like a several hours day drive between the houses. My guess is they moved to Nevada.

I had Action Biker for the C64, quite liked it at the time, probably because it was more forgiving than Paperboy and 720º. Apparently it doesn't hold up these days, unlike the Clumsy Colin advert.

I'll have to go hunting for some KP Skips, they're kind of like prawn crackers and as Danny said, they melt on your tongue which is weird for a crisp/corn snack.

This Tripwire news is the least surprising thing ever. Look. Not every person that has opinion A will also have opinion B. Some liberals support abortion only in limited certain circumstances. Some conservatives support abortion as a fundamental right. But with a broad enough timeline and a broad enough sample of the population, you can make some reasonable assumptions about someone's other views based on certain views they express.

I remember reading interviews from Tripwire back when Red Orchestra was coming out. Interviews in which Gibson is portrayed as being so different from other developers because he wants to get the guns right. His obsession with guns was treated as a fun character quirk. And I remember thinking, well, these aren't games I want to play. People who are obsessed with modeling realistic ballistics on World War 2 guns are probably gonna have some shitty views. I don't know why anyone is surprised that this guy sucks.

You should be able to just remove the Washlet off the toilet and attach it to the other? It's just a toilet seat replacement.

@bisonhero: nah, I'm not. Danny set up a joke to reference people formerly at giantbomb and everyone looked extremely uncomfortable. It's not the first time moments like that have happened, from otherworlder's side as well.

Ryckert and Abby are pickings sides as well. It's pretty fascinating overall but it would be great if everyone played nice.

@beggary: if you live in a vacuum I'm sure this is confusing, but if you read the room and pay attention to social overtones (which is easy since they're all on twitch and podcasts) and notice twitch etiquette, like schedules and raids, they're clearly adversarial

And yes, Dan was on a panel with them because he was there anyways and he loves Vinny and Alex

Sonic 1, CD, 2, 3 & Knuckles, and Mania are in my book the only good Sonic games. The Advance games come close because they got pretty much everything right but felt limited on the gameboy screen and some of the level design felt a little rough at times. While I understand the game play of the 2D games may not be for everyone, I feel like they're pretty damn enjoyable if you get a hang of the movement. However, I have watched many suffer at the hands of his glorious speed. Watching people get stuck, stopped, and just overall frustrated with the flow of the gameplay in a 2D Sonic game makes me completely understand why people do not like them and consider them to not be good lol. It definitely takes mastering the movement and learning the levels to really get the full enjoyment out of the gameplay IMO. I think if I had never played a 2D Sonic before in my entire life and tried it now as an adult the gameplay would be frustrating. I wouldn't find it that worthwhile to get good at it. The muscle memory of playing way too much of the genesis games as a kid makes it pretty easy for me to play these games on a whim and have a good time with them.

@gortonimo: Twitch etiquette? Seriously? By this argument, you would have to say that Abby had a falling out with Vinny and Alex because she was doing her own Twitch streams at the same time they were recording episodes of the Beastcast. If you weren't making this "time slot" argument in the months Abby was solo streaming while the Beastcast was still going on, why does this argument make sense now? There are only so many hours in a day, and if streaming is someone's day job, they're often going to do it at a set time.

The Nextlander guys have openly discussed things they've done at Giant Bomb on their podcast. They don't treat it like a taboo word. They treat it like a thing they did. A recent example is Twelve Minutes, which they discussed seeing (and doing the Quick Look) of. They didn't say it cryptically like, "We saw this game years ago at another place." They mentioned Giant Bomb and Quick Looks by name.

@gortonimo: now that Brad is gone, no one is willing to stand up to Jeff and/or bring him back from tangents. The bombcast is now the Gerstmann Opinions Program. I'm guessing with such a strong personality in charge there were some deep frustrations that could never be addressed.

@markemande: Freedom of speech only protects you from government punishment. And 40 years of union busting has eroded what few protections Americans had from getting fired for any reason. Check out the concept of at-will employment, for example. And the CEO's contract likely had a termination clause, anticipating a situation like this. Undisclosed golden parachute, etc.

@bladeofcreation: at the time when the Redventures acquisition embargo on talent lifted Abby and Ben left because they were either on the chopping block or looking at a severe pay cut

Abby and Ben also got burnt out from internet assholes so that's another push to get out of the GiantBombiverse, but not the singular one.

On Twitch, Nextlander and Abby raid eachother and stream together very often. And Abby raids Dan a bunch too. I could see a favorability towards grassroots streaming platforms there tho

And sure, the nextlander guys refer to their time at GiantBomb but neither parties refer to eachother in any present-tense lateral sense

I'm just saying it's lame. GiantBomb and Nextlander won't ever be tag teaming anything from from looks of it

@madmatt213: I thought he said it was a multi-day drive but I could be wrong. Also considering he had to do everything remotely for the actual prep work for the home I wouldnt be suprised if He actualy did move to Canada. It opened to US visa in August, so moving when fully vaccinated which jeff is wouldn't be as much as an issue with Covid. It if was that close enough to drive within a day, I personally would be at the actual location of the house I was buying IF I could be. (this is in regards to having work done on the home) Either way it seems like a fantastic change for him. Saskatoon is such a weird place it would either have to be DEAD serious or an elaborate joke so No One actually knows where Jeff resides Unlike before where Petaluma is very closely linked to this site.

For video doorbells I've really liked the Unifi Protect G4 Doorbell with a UniFi Dream Machine Pro security gateway as my router with an 8TB HDD in it. It records locally, has a free cloud option if you want to use that but the recordings are yours on your hardware. I already used UniFi Access Points for my wireless already which is a great fairly inexpensive enterprise WiFi solution if you're willing to run some Cat6 and mount some WiFi 6 APs around your house so adding the UDM Pro with the built in camera security app was a no brainer.

The thing I don't get about the PUBG: Battlegrounds renaming is this - I know that they were planning on making more things in the "PUBG universe." (The ship has long set sail on the window of time where people would care, if there even ever was a ship to begin with. But that's another topic.) So that's why they want to officially brand it PUBG, presumably. But why not name it just PUBG then? It's the original game, after all. Makes perfect sense to me. Dota did the whole make-the-acronym-your-actual-name thing. Instead of this ATM Machine nonsense.

Never heard of that fake name delivery thing, and I have no idea why Famous Dave's would need to do it. Famous Dave's is pretty damn good, for a chain.

Pepsi Blue is still my #1 missed soda. I only ever had it a handful of times, so maybe I'd hate it now, but in my mind that was the tastiest shit ever.

FSOL are very alive and making the best music of their careers. Under Stakker, Humanoid, Yage and FSOL. Check fsoldigital (slowest website ever). They stay in the shadows but release constantly. They also co develop synths. Worth checking out. They still great.
