I heard him talk several years ago at the Blaine County, NE film festival, but he didnt end up showing up, and instead sent a DVD copy of Theodore Rex with a note that we should watch it with the Director's Commentary turned on.

Everyone walked away from that talk a changed person, not least because Bryan had forgotten to secure the public screening rights for the movie, and the police tear gassed the theater to shutdown the viewing.

Wait, I don't get the sour expressions when Ben suggested the Safdie Brothers directing a GTA movie. Was that like "that's a bad idea" or was it like "that's too raw"? They're really good at their craft.

The Far Cry 6 email thing was misguided, but I don't get why I saw some people make a big deal about it. Ubisoft games have been keeping track of those stats for years - they just never directly emailed you about it. I've been playing AC Odyssey for the past few months, and every day it gives you an update with your completion percentage and what you can do next. But you have to go look for it in the Uplay UI.

@janman, If the English pronunciation is the same as in Japanese, Lelouch is probably "Lu Loosh". Also, yep the basic game system of tile-based strategy with resource management to upgrade your pilots and mechs has been pretty much constant for as long as I can remember this series. That being said, you don't really need to play the entire franchise, since most of them are standalone games, aside from a couple trilogies here and there... but those will make themselves pretty apparent (like Super Robot Wars Z ~ Super Robot Wars Z3). Unfortunately, there's hardly any of them that have been released in English, which makes it very hard for folks here to enjoy them. Of the more recent releases, I think SRW V, X, and T have technically seen English releases (even on PC!), but have been region locked to JP/Asia. I wonder if buying the cartridge version of these for Switch would allow you to play them on an English system?

Yeah, many of the mecha pilots in Super Robot Wars are kids or young adults. In the case of the kid in the Gundam Jan is talking about... That's Üso Ewin from Victory Gundam. Victory Gundam is a weird show for so many reasons.

First is that the early episode order was changed up due to pressure from Bandai to show the titular mobile suit of the series in the first episode, which originally didn't show up until episode 4. So, what was initially going to be the fourth episode became the first episode.

Next is that the series itself was initially supposed to target the younger demographic that was first brought into the franchise by SD Gundam, but the body count in this Gundam series is unusually high, even by Gundam standards. The body count included a number of main characters as well, which is actually pretty common for Tomino. So I don't think the younger demographic thing worked out for them.

The reason behind that is likely due to the Gundam series creator Yoshiyuki Tomino's ongoing depression while working on the show, coupled with the constant pressure from investors. Because of all this, Victory Gundam is the series Tomino hates the most. The booklet that came with one of the DVD box sets of Victory Gundam had an interview with Tomino titled "Don't buy these DVDs because you should not watch them!!"

Instead of saying moving on you could say 'now, pressing x to continue...'

Kind of weird to see those Far Cry 6 emails become such a big deal to some people. I'm not saying I loved them, but personally I thought it was a bit funny (like Danny said), if not a bit silly and 'dumb' as well. To see some people on Twitter get so up and arms about it and steering the conversation into 'Look how Ubisoft is trying to guilt you into playing their games!!!' or some such just felt so over the top to me. Felt a bit like a crowd that's 'looking to be offended'. Not saying Ubisoft doesn't deserve criticism for other stuff they've done, but man, this ain't it.

I'm not sure if Ben was trying to start something more by bringing up this story again (honestly felt this story had already blown over well before this Bombcast aired), but I was kind of glad to see the rest of the crew quickly pivot it into just talking more generally about Far Cry 6 and sales speculation before moving on, instead of 'faux outrage' on the email itself. Just such a benign issue.
