ALBUMMER! 11: Sting & Shaggy

This week on Albummer! the gang talks about the most iconic melding of the minds since Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny Devito decided to be twins: it's Shaggy and Sting who did an album together in 2018. Why? WHY!?!

The crew behind Two Minutes to Late Night are here to re-review some of the most critically reviled albums out there!

Oh hey, I remember when Jeff and Ben talked about this one while Brad labored through SMB1.

Apple Music has the non-deluxe edition of this album, thankfully.

@disgustipater: oh cool thank you!

edit: for anyone else trying to do this, the RSS link on this page works but the one on the RSS feed list just takes you to the normal premium podcast feed

Sting is the number one person my 63 year old mom would give a blowjob in front of my dad with. I had to live with Sting played on loop until I left home. And I actually think he has talent musically, but the whole mom-sexy thing always skeeved me out.

This was my favorite episode and i havent even bothered listening to the album. I know they have been doing this together for a long time but the chemistry was really perfect on this episode. I appreciate Emily bringing research into it on recent episodes too. It turns out its more fun when they talk about what they enjoyed more than just what was bad.

I just realized how amazing it would be to listen to Shaggy and Sting comment on an episode of Two Minutes to Late Night. How the turns table!

The thing that messes me up the most about this album is that shaggy's name is above sting and vice versa on the album cover.

I was trying to place where I found out about this album's existence and I think that must have been it! I had just figured it was an email to some bombcast around the time.

@beatnikbedlam: As someone said it looks like it got it's own feed but the link is wrong. Open the grubsnax one and replace grubsnax with albummer

The Sting, Sting, and Sting International stories were killing me at work this morning. Artists are so damn absurd. I love it. Thanks to everyone involved that bring this show to life. The stories behind these albums are magical and I can't wait to hear more. Seven and a half hours more please for no particular reason.

"Fields of Gold: The Best of Sting" is an incredible collection of songs. The man has talent, but he obviously needs some quick money and thus... this.

@tm24: They did it on the old 2 Minutes podcast. No idea if those episodes are still available somewhere. I remember them liking it a lot.

The last (second) ska show I wound up at was a ska act opening for a couple Irish-themed hardcore bands at a dive bar. I dunno, man, it was a weird time. Anyway, I head-butted the keyboard player from the ska band in a 3-person mosh pit, I'm pretty sure he was all right afterwards though.

Did I miss something about the figurines in the saucepans behind Katie and Emily?

Leave it to 2MTLN to expose me to album sins I never knew existed, and was better off not knowing about! Great episode.

Since he was brought up this ep: Fun Fact! Jonathan Frakes played trombone on a Phish interlude called "Riker's Mailbox" that i am sure they only did just to have him on an album. Its not even a song, just a sound collage of bullshit like backwards vocals and Frakes just GOING HAM on his trombone.
