Wouldnt the connection to Freddy with Doo-Wop music and 50/60s stuff be that it was music he liked in character? Dude was born in 1941. Obviously i agree with the points about the music working thematically due to references to dreaming and sleeping and all that. But if you look at it from a storyline perspective it makes sense also.

There was an episode of the now-defunct (and seemingly delisted from everywhere) podcast The Smell of Music that covered a number of Freddy Krueger songs, and “Do The Freddy” was somehow the least worst of the bunch. There was some awful dubstep song that just yelled “Freddy Fucking Krueger” at the drop for which I wish I could remember the title or artist. I suppose there’s an audience for everything.

Finally catching up on episodes and man, I sure dig this show a whole heck of a bunch.
