If I hadn't had one recently I'd totally go for one today.

... still might.

Hehe, I didn't look closely and figured that was just a cheese steak because 'Merica but now I got to the inevitable point in the show that explains why the podcast image is what it is. Good show.

SHIT. The guest for the next podcast in Drew's absence is going to be Ryckert. It has to be. That's going to be... a thing that exists.

This episode has better have an inordinate amount of Drew speaking in his 'merican accent.

Edit: 1:20 into it and I'm liking it already!

@dannyodwyer@drewbert The Coen brothers first film was Blood Simple (I love that the Directors Cut is about 2:30 shorter than the released version) and I highly recommend it.

...going for a gyro tomorrow night (the best I've everr eaten is near my house - they build their own tower rather than use the chopped, pressed, formed... thing that comes out of a factory near Chicago that almost everyone in the US uses: linky).

Oh man, I think the "Acropolis in the American south" is actually just a scale model of the Parthenon that's in Nashville, TN, somewhat near where I live. Here's a picture from Wikipedia:

It's pretty weird, but a pretty alright place to go if you're on vacation in Nashville.

I think Danny doesn't know how time zones work. We're in the future here in Europe, not in the past! (the race will be at 8PM in continental Europe, 7PM in the UK)

Dario Franchitti is, in fact, Scottish. He's Paul di Resta's cousin.

Emerson Fittipaldi would probably love to be Scottish.

Jackie Stewart isn't Brazilian.

wait thats what americans call a gyro? Well I was in philly this summer and they tried to call a sub a hoagie, so at least your sandwich names are consistently crazy.

BBC did this fantastic piece with Jenson Button for the last race I think. Their production is always top notch, I'd recommend watching this.

@drewbert @dannyodwyer

You're correct that rain has never happened for F1 at COTA, and in general is quite rare for central texas. However the endurance races at COTA have an amazingly weird history of torrential downpours during track action. In 2013's inaugural "Lone Star Le Mans", the remnants of a hurricane were rolling across texas the day of qualifying. I know this because my father and I hit the storm shortly after crossing the texas border, 10 hours into our 16 hour drive from Indiana to Austin. I finished the stint into our hotel white-knuckled; not sure if the roads were just greasy and terrible, texans can't into driving in the rain, road drainage or whatever, but there were people sliding off the highway everywhere. It was very scary, and needless to say, even though we had intended to make it to the track for quals, we ended up watching the livestream from the comfort of our hotel room.

2014 saw a similar freak monsoon happen during the WEC's 6 hour race, with about 2 hours left to go. Here's some footage.

So, yeah. Apparently freak rain stuff happens in texas. I dont think you can count it out for F1.

I feel like I just have to say that last weekend's MotoGP round in Phillip Island, Australia, was the greatest motor race I've seen in a good long time. So if you wanna give MotoGP a shot this is definitely the time to do it!

@nmckee503: Yep, it really is a lovely little piece. DC and JB are good mates, and it shows. My dad was messing around in Rally Cross when John Button was winning stuff and says he was a great guy.

@the_ruckus: How would someone follow rally cross? It looks pretty interesting.

@dave_tacitus: His face when he was told he was driving a car that raced his dad was awesome, the sort of look that you can tell he probably had chills up his spine. Awesome piece. I like to think we are all good mates with DC haha.

@nmckee503: Must admit to having a few chills as well at that moment. :)

This might be heresy in F1 TV circles but I think DC's doing a better job than even Brundle at the moment, and for years I reckoned MB was the best co-commentator in any sport I was watching.

Approximately 2% of Scots are of Italian descendancy. During a period of drought, famine and poverty in the 1890s, several Italian familes seeked a more prosperous life in Scotland.

So @dannyodwyer was talking about how Guiness is popular in Jamaica. But it isn't the Guiness stout that is popular everywhere else, it is a lager that is brewed in Jamaica. There is a cool TV show called Three Sheets that is a travel show about other countries and their drinking cultures. The host goes to Jamaica and talks about the Guiness they drink.

Dammit. I actually watched this race and it's the one they don't actually talk about? So many crash outs and the rest of the season is pretty much null and void with Hamilton winning. it would have been a good one.

oh man how wrong they were/are about Bathurst. I hope they got corrected, they -ARE- v8 supercars, and it's not a 20-lap race, it's 1000km (620mi) and 161 laps.
