Alt+F1: 86 - European GP 2016

It's the first race at F1's equivalent of a Mario Kart track and despite a distinct lack of banana peels we learn that Lewis didn't RTFM, Kimi's a bona fide grease monkey, and Bernie Ecclestone is the world's foremost expert on civil rights.

Alt+F1 is a weekly Formula 1 podcast from your friends at Giant Bomb. We run down the twists and turns of Earth's fastest and most expensive urinating contest. Join us for race recaps, news from the wide world of racing and the latest on Pastor Maldonado.

I really hope they talk about the Codemasters Ricciardo Baku lap on the 'cast.

It's such a weird piece of marketing.

Imola is not actually in San Marino (which is indeed an independent country), just nearby, but in Italy. The race was just called the San Marino Grand Prix because the FIA wanted to have a one country per grand prix rule—the race at the Nurburgring has twice been called the Luxembourg Grand Prix for the same reason, before they started the European Grand Prix nonsense as a way to fudge that rule. (And now we see that the European Grand Prix doesn't even have to be held on European soil!)

Also, Hamilton did RTFM, Mercedes mis-programmed one setting, so his switches were all correct. Rosberg only caught it quicker because he'd switched into that mode later in the race and so could easily tell what wasn't working, whereas Lewis starting in P10 had been in that mode from the start, since he was going to have to pass a lot of cars. So in his situation there wasn't any realistic way for him to know which setting it was that his garage had set wrong.

since it's not live, would it be possible to just record both audio tracks individually and later match the audio tracks?

as in you can chat normally trough the skype, but both can have at the time something else record your part of the conversation, that you later match in editing.

it's really not that impossible concept when you think about it, only thing you need to do, is synch the two audio tracks.

edit: if this is not done that way, im really suprised how good the skype audio is.

I actually attended this one live. Race wasn't all that exciting, I'll admit, but Baku was nice. Fairly cheap, fairly neat and people were friendly enough - all in all worth the visit.

Well the main race was a bit of a let down. First race of course and i dont think most teams got their race setups correctly.

On the other hand GP2 races were a blast, maybe due to cars being very similar and somewhat less technical, but thats just my guess. I bet it will be much better race next year many with wider cars and they will have some data from this year to go on.

As F1 in general it isnt that exciting last few years, not just because Mercedes has most money and fastest car but just in general.

There needs to be some regulations. What would be cool is same spec cars so it comes down to aero, chassis and mainly focus on driver skills with even more assistance off and how far are they willing to push.

F1 is about innovation in technology but sometimes simpler is better. Personally i think there is too much technology involved.

yay they finally mentioned the dutch tt in my hometown, wich is being invaded by hoards of german, french, english and other european bikers as i'm typing this.

It's a pretty big deal here locally and takes the form of basicly a 4 or 5 day open air musicfestival/binge. I used to go to the races every year but kind of lost interest in the early 2000's cause rossi was winning everey thing (sort of similar to how shumacher won everything in f1 at that time) and had no real competition, this and the fact that the grandstand prices skyrocketed made me go back to watching it at home, wich is arguably a better way to see the races but you don't get the amazing/weird atmosphere.

anyway just had to share something after hearing @dannyodwyer say ASSen

This was the best race I've seen in the recent years. So many overtakes, so many straights... AWESOME!
