Alt+F1: 91 - Hungarian GP & German GP Prerace 2016

Lang is back to regale us with boat anecdotes and ponder why everyone is so aggro. Maybe F1 should go hang out in Verstappen's van and just, like, chill, man.

Alt+F1 is a weekly Formula 1 podcast from your friends at Giant Bomb. We run down the twists and turns of Earth's fastest and most expensive urinating contest. Join us for race recaps, news from the wide world of racing and the latest on Pastor Maldonado.

Yay! I can't wait for Danny to get back, but Lang is always a good wild card.

@dannyodwyer Better be careful or he'll be the second Danny to befall a mid-season replacement in 2016.

This is why you don't take vacations. The second you leave they realize they don't need you!

When FIA didn't punish Verstapen in the race even it was Ferrarry who suffered it should mean that it was OK for Max to do that.

Even though I've never watched an F1 race and still kinda don't get your guys' jokes about the racers and teams, I was sad until now that it seemed like Alt+F1 was on a break until Danny got back from his big vacation/wedding (congrats Danny if you can read this :D ) since it seems like nobody else could fill the temporary void even though Drew promised that there would be episodes until Danny's return.

Now, despite the fact that I'm not gonna listen to this until tomorrow night due to how I work, I'm happy to see a new episode within the depths of the Lang Zone. :)

Eh. The attitude of some of these drivers is really turning me off to f1. Especially Hamilton and rosberg. I find myself wishing they end each race with a double dnf.

I really loved Drews' buchering of Jyväskylä. The name would translate to something like Grainsville.

@waronhugs: Looks like a GB track walk maneuver minus the crashing

@warmonked:This is why Danial Ricardo is my favorite driver. He's the Brad Muir of F1 :D

You could host a podcast with Lang and a brick wall discussing how grass grow and he'd still make it entertaining somehow

The Grant stand of turn 16 with the front straight going toward the picture's left.

Slightly further down the road.

Went to Legoland Deutschland a few months ago and on the way I had my wife take a few pix of this week's GP venue, Hockenheim. For those unaware it is just 10 or so miles south of Mannheim and is located along an Autobahn.

I'm a huge Hamilton fan and I'm glad this championship is getting exciting. I hope we still get to hear Danny's take in this race and the ending.

Great job Drew and thanks so much Dave Lang.

The sky sports commentators were also hypothesizing that Hamilton was backing Rossberg into Ricciardo.

To answer another Lang question on the show: Yes, Red Bull and Scuderia Toro Rosso (Italian for 'Red Bull') are both owned by the same entity. I'm not 100 percent sure how their business ownership shell company game works, but STR is the continuation of the old Minardi team (bought by RB in 2005 and debuting as STR in 2006) to function purely as a Red Bull junior team. For a few years when the technical regulations allowed, STR essentially ran the previous year's Red Bull chassis (as the design for RBR was in a separately held company, including the design copyrights, they could license this out to a third party, who they also happened to own).

Sebastian Vettel, Danny Ricky and now Max Verstappen have all made their debuts in F1 here, while plenty of other Red Bull associated drivers (Seb Buemi comes to mind, he's now with Toyota in WEC) have been floated in to the team but haven't become superstars.

I feel like our own resident CEO resident businessman-in-chief would appreciate these wheelings and dealings.

As well, there's been rumor throughout this year that Alfa Romeo would be re-entering F1, and one possibility was STR being bought and re-branded. While Alfa Romeo and Ferrari are both part of the larger FIAT umbrella, Ferrari has recently spun itself off and become an independent stock. Therefore, FIAT does not technically have its own team in F1 - and with efforts at FIAT to increase Alfa's profile ahead of re-entering the U.S. and spreading the model range globally, this is the desired way. They may instead be buying the Sauber team, but that is still not 100 percent certain either.
