The standing wet starts thing seems like such a bad idea to me. All I can imagine is this leading to half the grid being knocked out on turn 1.

Radio is back!!!!!!! Finally commentators have more to talk about. Even with the radio, tire strategy pooped.

I like those fat tires. They remind me of how the tires looked between the 70's-90's.

Also, those hats are real cool!

I really hope this becomes a 3 person podcast with Lang as a regular.

GP 2 races were amazing last weekend. Recommend watching those if you have a chance.

Tokyo Drift is fucking great, goddamnit Lang.

The fat tires are apparently the same sizes as 1997, which was the last year before 2009 with slicks. (Back in 1998 they narrowed the cars and tires to "provide more passing" and added grooves to reduce the grip. Didn't really work, and made the cars look worse)

I don't think the front/rear wings will be quite as wide as the 1990s, but still wider, which helps make everything look a lot better.

And re: race stewards, there are permanent stewards as well. The ones we always hear about are the invited stewards who are former drivers and champions.

Still love Lang on Alt+F1.

@harperdc: Yep, and the celebrity steward is technically only a 'consultant'.

Here are the rules RE: stewards. They work below the permanent officials, and include members from the national organizations for whichever country they're hosting in. But still, not permanent aka IndyCar or IMSA.

@harperdc: I guess you need to accept that F1 runs in a similar way to the IOC or FIFA - Lots of smaller organisations around the world answering to one head council but all with their own little fiefdoms to rule over. IndyCar is a national series.

Allison left Ferrari because his wife died earlier this year, and he wants to move back to the UK to spend more time with his family (he will probably join Renault instead).

I've been looking for Steve Matchett's books for a couple weeks now (my interest in a good read about F1 coincided with Lang's request for a reading list last week), but they seem improbably difficult to find stateside. I finally bit the bullet and ordered a used copy from a third-party seller on Amazon. It's being shipped media mail, so it'll take like two weeks to get it. Oh well.
