Unfinished: Anew: The Distant Light (05/08/2019)

This looks like every other 2d indie metroidvania I've seen them play before. Not trying to sound negative just got some serious deja vu watching this last UPF. They played a game last year I think that was almost identical to this.

Now I know where the deja vu came from. They played the exact same segment on UPF probably since this is just a demo.

I personally wish a Nintendo was doing a 2d Metroid since I never cared for prime so I wasn't too excited for the announcement of Metroid prime 4. Or someone should make a Contra metroidvania. I'm hoping the changes to bloodstained make it a really good game since it is an awesome genre that just feels taken over by procedural games so always nice to see a linear one like these.

Ware did the Embiggen setting go?

@steveurkel: Did you not play Samus Returns on the 3DS? Although it was a remake of 2 for the GBA, it felt like a new game with some new mechanics added.

@steveurkel: I think maybe Mummy Demastered has what you're jonesing for.

Anyway, I really like the music in this and had to look up who did it. Wilbert Roget, II is the composer, who's worked on numerous Star Wars and Indiana Jones titles, so the John Williams-y nature of this makes total sense.

@rearmed: no you didn't since embiggen still does not exist. Fill Browser is not the same thing and I hate it so much :(

I was into this when they started playing, then the vehicle part made me Nope a little, the bullshit boss at the begging of the game only beckons more of this bullshit thoughout the game and I'm full Nope now. It's like these Metroidvania devs are gaming dyslexic, they don't understand the core things that made Metroid good.

The music in this is *fantastic*

The way the player character moves reminds me of the The Swapper (I might be remembering that wrong, but I couldn't help but think of that game as I was watching this.)

The movement and graphics remind me of Intrusion 2 or that Serious Sam Double D XXL. I do dig the music though.

@ph00p: What do you think are the core things that made Metroid good?

The first thing you do when you land on an alien plant kill the native life.

The music is pretty great. I do like the vehicle twist as well, since most of these games are about making your character more mobile & powerful instead of relying on external machines / vehicles. The robot section here felt pretty pointless apart from having something neat to showcase in a demo.
