13, that's how many episodes I watched this weekend.

First podcast, my question was why. But then I started watching and could, not, stop! The show's so fun and I have, many many things to say about it that I'll surely write here eventually.

I skipped ahead to Lord Zedd's arrival (with his Samoa Joe orchestra hits) and they totally dunk on Pudgy Pig. His monsters are tougher, with Zack going "I got a feeling it ain't Pudgy Pig." I expected better from Harlan Band of Space Cases.

This got me to go and actually check out Zyurangers (streaming free on Tubi by the way) and it is wild to see the differences. The way they cut and chopped the show to make MMPR is impressive in a weird way that I'm shocked was ever green lit for production.

Also, thank you for noticing the terrible American pig suit. It had arms coming out of the mouth while the original didn't. It made the entire jaw hang so low and look completely different. Now I wonder if they ever got the original suits to use or if they had to make their own for reshoots.

It's like you're reading my mind. I was just thinking how the rangers are almost bullying Bulk sometimes, and also wondering when Tommy will be introduced. Very fun following along with this podcast.

Love the show! I wish y’all would think about a non premium version so I could use my normal podcast apps though. Being only on giant bomb website makes it inconvenient to listen to in cars and stuff. For example the giant bomb podcast - I listen to the ad supported version just because it’s published in podcast Apps even though of been a member 5+ years.

The strange thing about this podcast for me is that I didn't like the Power Rangers show as a kid but I enjoy this podcast. a lot . So much so that I'm tempted to look up some of these clips.

Matt, love the enthusiasm, and I hope you get to be involved with the Double anime! I'm super hyped for it (even if I really wish Toei would at least make the original show legally available to watch in the US first), and it would be great to know such a fan is involved on the English side.

Oh, re: Rita's bicycle. In Zyuranger, she's basically patterned after the Wicked Witch of the West (i.e. the actual person riding the bicycle that Dorothy then sees turn into the witch on the broom). Goldar is basically a flying monkey, etc.

I also wanna say I remember the Sentai stock footage (the weapon combining and zord summoning specifically) looking noticeably worse for MOST of the show. It seemed the more reused it was, the worse it looked, though I don't know enough to know why that would be.

Episode 5 was the first and last episode I watched as a kid. I thought it was the lamest thing I had ever seen haha. This makes me kind of interested in watching it again.

That Rita/Bandora riding the old timey bicycle is from the first episode after she is unleashed and just attacks the city with the monsters. It also had my favorite line from the entire show.

I know Jan doesn't want to commit to any Super Sentai stuff, but I would really like to hear his reactions to Zyuranger.

Man, reading about the production of the show on Wikipedia was a huge bummer. Red, yellow, and black ranger were all fired after they started talking about unions and crappy pay.

Billy though, poor guy, was constantly harassed for being homosexual. The wiki even mentions awful shit like conversion therapy and insults that I cannot type in good conscience being tossed around by coworkers. And despite all that, he was the longest-lasting of the original cast. Dang.

@janman I've only watched a little bit of Mighty Morphin back in the day, but I've been re-watching it with some friends over discord. We've been alternating every episode between Mighty Morphin and Super Sentai 35 (Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger), the galactic pirate crew, who have the powers of all previous 34 Super Sentai so you get to see a wider variety there. It's been an interesting contrast between the two.

I didn't know that I wanted to go back and watch Power Rangers 30 years later, but this show is actually still rad! Thanks for getting me to watch it again. It was my favorite show when I was in 1st grade and I had all they toys. My favorite had a switch on the back, which would flip the head, and exchange it with the masked head (if you know, you know lol).

So yeah... Maria's voice is definitely dubbed by an adult. And that adult happens to be Wendee Lee. She also voices Scorpina, but we won't see her for a while. Wasn't expecting to hear her voice here.

I saw Robert Axelrod at a convention around 2010 or so, he was a nice dude. I vividly remember him, already looking pretty frail at the time, saying "it was bullshit" that they turned Lord Zedd from a scary villain into a goofball after a few episodes, once parents complained about it being too scary.

Anyone know the release schedule for this show?
