2021 still can’t mute Rorie 😩

Rorie is great. It's always a great surprise when he's on a QL or any other video.

What a weird comment you made. You do realize that they probably read these comments right?

Brad is right to be nostalgic about those old games. They all had these custom UI's that reflected the animus angle and I dunno they felt a lot more concise. I'm on hour 70 of Valhalla and none of it really feels distinct. There are some standout quests but they do get drowned out in a sea of other much less meaningful ones. Most notably the recent region I finished didn't have an obvious "right" solution near the end which was both disorienting for AC but also refreshing.

ALSO

I know Alex seems to really dislike Unity and I agree that the story is absolute garbage - the overarching AC story - but the incidental stuff and the city, parkouring etc was actually pretty great once the patches rolled in. Paris is beautiful and the revolution setting worked really well in concert with the assassin stuff. They also do have some nice historical tie-ins like storming the Bastille. I think it's a lot more interesting than Syndicate and the most "Assassin Creedy" before they started experimenting with the formula.

I would love to see Vinny go back to the first Assassin's Creed game. Some things didn't age well, like you can't assassinate someone from a rooftop or a hiding place. But I think the combat in that game is actually the hardest in the series and holds up well. The parry timing is extremely tight compared the sequels and you can get wrecked by high level enemies very fast.

It would be a hard argument to make that AC1 is the best game in the series, but it is definitely my favorite.

Ludwig Göransson also won the Oscar for the Black Panther score and produced Childish Gambino's first three albums. Very talented guy.

It's 2021 and Vinny is still a magnet for completely broken open world nonsense.

Unity is absolutely worth checking out in its current state, especially playing on current-gen consoles which provide rock-solid 60FPS and HDR improvements. I just played through Unity for the first time on Series X and did rather enjoy it... although all of that said, I will agree with Alex that given the rich possibilities for 'almost' history with the Illuminati being connected to the French revolution... that the potential was somewhat squandered.

@brendan: It looks like it. Or at least until they get bored of it or it gets too busy but Vinny has a pretty rock solid track record for finishing series that he starts.

Rory has some strange Star Trek views. He slams the good seasons of Enterprise but likes Discovery?

At least we can all agree that Picard was awful, maybe the absolute worst entry in New Trek.

If you're thinking of playing this on the PS5 consider that there's a ,rave-like, lighting bug not found on the PS4 consoles. Wasted my money.

I started playing AC Unity last night after hearing enough folks actually saying that it's extremely good since all the patches fixed its rough ass launch. Hey, I ended up liking Mass Effect Andromeda after playing it a couple years late, so what the heck.

So far, I'm into it. I like the setting a lot, I'm surprised to see big pops of color in a game of its era, the Palace of Versailles had bright, vibrant artwork on the walls. I'm also reminded that I just like these older style of AC games more than the RPG lite style they do now. I haven't seen any level 35 birds that are capable of wiping out an entire platoon of soldiers because their numbers are right. The animation has a fluidity to it. I feel like when you couldn't just climb everything, they spent a lot more time on your limited traversal skills. It's harder to move around, but I think it looks better, and it feels more rewarding. Also the prologue was literally 20 minutes, and if that doesn't put it in the top half of AC games, I don't know what does.

The vitriol that a lot of people online have for Picard is confusing to me. It's not exactly what I want out of Star Trek, but it's not that bad

@goldgreg: I was into it. It really is the only Mass Effect game since the first that feels like a game about discovering space.
