I don't normally comment, let alone before I even finish a video but man...the first 10 minutes are a real bummer. Game shows a little personality and it's all "No, don't make me do this! I don't care about this!"

Edit: The last fight in coop was hilarious though so glad I stuck to the end. Unfortunately I don't think this was particularly informative in terms of combat - fights ended super quickly since Dan is playing on easy and he didn't seem to do many pair up attacks.

So I want this game but I wanna see how the giant bomb crew feel about it so this may or may not get Nintendo a purchase because I'm skeptical about anything looking this good being exclusive to a switchlkke what the hell. From what I've seen the game seems very cool so this has been anticipated to see what others reaction is since waypoint kinda hated it.

That Lappy mission seemed fun! Dan should have just rolled with it. That's prime quick look material.

Everyone thinks dan dislikes the Lappy thing because he doesn't' like the mission but it's more that he didn't expect to have to spend 10 minutes in a weird side quest that doesn't represent the game's main loop. It's a quick look and that slowed it down. I also just wanted to see the real game action so I was right there with him while appreciating how silly and fun it might be in game.

There's a sidequest-character-bit wherein the player is required to take a shit to progress the quest line?

I dont understand this quick look, Dan is trying to rush through the entire first half of the quick look to show combat, then when they get to the part where there is a lot of combat they very quickly switch to a bad co-op mode which does not really show the combat

I’m with Dan though, I like the game but it doesn’t seem that great. I get constant S+ ranks when I’m not really doing anything interesting or challenging in the combat.

The double-layer of slow investigating and talking seems totally unnecessary. Do a walk-around to start a mission to do a walk-around to do a mission to get back to walking around?

The first 10mins of this Quick Look was objectively terrible. Poor coverage, really poor. Surprised it made it up, probably shoulda started fresh. Love this site but the fact this QL made it up in the state it did is concerning in terms of quality control.

This QL is a bummer - Dan would not have been my first choice to cover this.

Imagine the reaction if those boob physics were in Gears and not in a Japanese game.

Man, I was really excited for GB to cover this game. This quick look did it a major disservice. Feels like they were pressed for time.

Its not that I think he disliked the Lappy thing thats a bummer. Its that a video with that opening 10mins made it onto the site in the first place. It shows a lack of care for the content they put up. Which whilst is clearly not the case on 99% of the content its stuff like this that can be seen as a red flag as its just content for contents sake, at least thats what it comes across as.

Wow, never had a quick look really turn me off game like this one - the QL was fine, but the game just does nothing for me.

I'm sure this hit all of someone's buttons, but I just found it to be just a mess of confusion.

As someone who's played about up to the point Dan is in the QL, I'd say please PLEASE don't rely on this one as a definitive examination of the game. The biggest appeal of this game is how much personality the game has, especially in its non-combat sections. It's really unfortunate that Dan would call the combat the "real" parts of the game as if the exploration and dialogue were not equally valid parts of its appeal.

It's a really likeable game and it'd be such a shame if people ended up turned off by it because of how poorly Dan presented it.

People suprised at Dan not liking the silly anime stuff and focusing on the action have not been paying attention.

Those who aren't entrenched in the immature anime culture will be put off by the stuff you all seem to love. This is the kind of thing that makes anime something to mock for most of society.

I'm with Dan actually. It's a good game and even taking the time to soak it all in, there's something about it that just isn't pulling me in. The combat is fun and more engaging on the normal difficulty, the legions are cool. But everything around it just feels kinda meh. And I made it through 5 of the 11 Files, really want to like it more than I do.

I'll probably go back to it but putting it aside for now.

Man this quick look is really a bummer for this game. I am 15 hours into the game, and it has been great. The story is pretty standard, but the characters and vibe fo the game (particularly in the noncombat times) are all great. The combat is excellent as well. Hope that people give it a shot, even after seeing this QL.

Hey Dan there is a Metal Gear Solid reference in this game in mission 6 when in the ducts. A gaurd taking a shit and is having trouble.

OK WTF Dan should absolutely know that Krillin is a cop. And if he wants more interesting combat...try non-casual (not sure if that was just for the QL though).

So far (a few hours in to the game) I'm feeling similarly about the combat as I did with Nier: there's a lot of semi-interesting options but you can mostly get by without doing all of that, so you get out of it what you put in. I will say that some of the passive buffs can feel overpowered (auto-sync for example).
Though the ranking system in this game does push you to try more things and I assume as I unlock more legions things will get even more interesting. I haven't tried the hardest playstyle yet though.

If the action is the part that Dan is interested in, I'm not sure why he would be playing on casual. Didn't he play through most of the DMC games on the hardest difficulty?

I'm about as far in as Dan, and I'm enjoying this game quite a bit. I think it might actually be my preferred 2019 character action game over DMC V.

There's something about that this game that I can't quite put my finger on...it's cool looking, but to me doesn't look all that interesting to play through. I think the concept is interesting enough, but something about the world and it's characters that just feel like generic anime game of 2019. I also feel like the controls on the Switch would negatively impact how I feel about this game.

This video cemented my decision to not play this game but that's fine because breakpoint is in a few weeks then doom eternal maybe I'll get it in a few months but I went from having this in my eshop cart waiting for this quick look (I also didn't have money when it came out so it's a bit steep for my situation if I don't like it) to not having it in my shopping cart now.

30 bucks and I'll get it because there is something here and it would be the only thing to get me interested in the switch again because I've fallen off every switch game in hours except botw which I put about 30 hours in before getting bored.

If this was on PC though I'd be all over it because it would be more far more immersive.

The complaining about getting "locked" in a side-quest doesn't quite track for me...there was a pretty clear "do you want to do this now?" prompt.

Plus you could just leave the side quest by talking to Marie again...

This is a real bad game to show off in short format, it's so dense and just visually hard to parse in a lot of ways that speeding through it is just going to be confusing to someone that hasn't gone through the lengthy onboarding.

I personally think it's pretty neat; A lot more personality and Yakuza-esque dumb stuff than I was expecting, though I flip back and forth on the combat. Sometimes utilizing the Legion really clicks and it feels great and sometimes I just get frustrated trying to juggle so much at once. Plus it looks and runs really well for a Switch game I think, playing it directly after Fire Emblem makes me wonder a bit why that looks and runs the way it does.

Not sure why they buttoned through all of the dialogue/Lappy stuff at the start and called it not the "real game." The game is very much an action RPG as opposed to a straight action game, so the story/dialogue/characters are a big part of it. A lot of time in this game will be spent doing what they did at the start, for better or worse depending on what you want out of the game.

Anyways, I'm really enjoying the combat in this game because it's so unique. You've got a ton of tools at your disposal. But the scoring system seems straight up busted. I just beat a boss where I straight up died once and popped like 5 healing potions and got an S+. It seems to value using your entire skill set over actually dodging and being effective. So I'm not sure how much replay value this'll have for me compared to something like DMC5.

Man this quick look was terrible. He was playing on casual & then talking about how it's not that challenging. I wonder why? I'm eagerly awaiting the Easy Allies review on this game.

I really want this game but the reviews and opinions are all over the place. Austin didn't seem to like it and man I thought he would be the one it was made for basically!

Can someone please convinc3 me to get this game because I want to be a cop but I don't want to play a bad game and I haven't just seen a glowing you gotta play this game argument everyone is like its pretty great BUT and those buts like Dan's here are disappointing

While I understand Dan's frustration at wanting to get to the action parts of the game, I think it's something of a disservice to want to just blow through such a big chunk of the game, good or bad. Viewers like me are going to want to take in stuff like that. There's a chance to be entertained here (or not), and instead, it's all being shoved aside. Disappointing.

Ben and Jason should play through this entire game co-op once they are done with Asura's Wrath.

I think this game might not be for me. It seems boring.

I enjoy Dan generally, but everything they did for the first 10 minutes was part of the actual game. From what I could glean from that bit, seems appealingly silly.

I wonder if there were a lot of time pressures on this Quick Look? No need to be so impatient otherwise. Oh well.

@wobblysnake: My guess is that they had most space on the cartridge used up by all the voiced dialogue and we ended up with giant PS1 textures and occasional JPG's. In the combat sections I kinda understand because it was having trouble running it stabely because it has to load the over the shoulder camera and overview at once but the talking sections outside were just off putting, I would have preffered if it was just a nicely drawn back ground instead.

And yeah, this QL doesn't really represent the game very much, they should have at least showed some of the story bits and characters, or what they usually do with showing the beginning and mid game a bit.

This game is really charming and cool and I hope people check out some other stream or impression before making a decision.

This game kind of just looks not very good but it gets a free pass from a bunch of people because they like Platinum? They've made some good games but it's not like everything they touch is gold either. The 'personality' people seem to go on about appears to just be cyber cop with an overdose of anime tropes. The combat seems middling. Hard pass.
