everything that happens during gameplay is non-canon, all the people Kiryu guns down are perfectly fine and they properly apologize with a staminan off-camera afterwards.

"I don't know what you're talking about, but I'm guessing the riverbed is some kind of fighting arena?" those are some good instincts Kiryu.

Having finally caught up on this series and having nearly completeted this game, I have a dumb grievance to air: the advice in the comments telling the guys to buy Bottomless Stomach with their completion points was... very questionable.

Again, it's not at all a big deal as CP is really just a tool to make certain things in the game more convenient, but Bottomless Stomach takes quite an investment of CP for something that saves you maybe 5 minutes through the course of a 100% completion playthrough over just buying AppStims from the drug store.

It just doesn't make sense to purchase unless it's all you have left to buy.

Sorry, I feel better now.

Anyone know why this episode was scheduled later than previous ones?

If you're using the restaurants a lot, maybe, but the way Dan/Vinny/Alex have been playing Bottomless Stomach makes sense - they'll never remember to have AppStim at the ready, so the CP they'll potentially gain by just being able to order everything whenever will offset the cost of Bottomless Stomach, and it'll make the friendships smoother to obtain. It's not like anything on the CP tree is really critical anyway.

Edit: @vinny - The unlocked style blocks came from beating the King in the Real Estate stuff, not just by purchasing more skills.

Beast Crew you may want to try the bowling alley and score a turkey. There is a special reward that may prove beneficial.

Looking forward to next episode. In the top left of Beast Style you can purchase a great heat move by the way.

While you're right about them not likely using AppStims, I think it is equally unlikely they'll finish those friendships or even complete enough restaurants to recoup the CP. Those restaurant friendships are also pretty inessential and one - or I think even both - require fishing, so the odds they'll complete either and the rewards for doing them are pretty small.

Granted, at this point, I'm not sure they'll ever do anything more with the cabaret club or real estate games, but that branch would give them some tangible benefits if they were to continue them.

Ultimately, you're right that nothing on the CP tree is critical, but I'd still say Bottomless Stomach offers both more plot-focused players and completionists the least convenience of all the branches.

I was not expecting that reveal. Yakuza really has some great twists. Although i read the plot for the new Yakuza I don't really know much about its past, so watching this along is great.

A little bit of advice for @danryckert, @alex, @vinny. Next time you guys buy health items, get the ones that heal the most amount of health! They are incredibly cheap! Dan has been buying the lower tier ones, which don't really heal that much of your health, so it's worth investing slightly more money in order to save you guys a lot of trouble.

I know it's been said before but you can transfer money between characters. There is a "Mr Moneybags" in the bar "Vincent" for Kiryu and one next to "The Grand" (playing a guitar) for Majima. At first you have to transfer specified amounts but later you can transfer as much as you like without losing any money, which helps when you can change between characters.

That being said I dont think you'll need all the moves or a bunch of money but I would suggest you get that ability in the beast style that lets you withstand bullets while blocking, just to save Dan some frustration.

I think they should just make a straight shot to the end from here on. The side missions businesses would be a grind for way too long.

I think there was some talk of devoting sub-episodes to side missions/business grinding at some point (either a previous episode or a Beastcast)? That would seem like an optimal approach, I think the side content is a lot of what gives this game its flavor and it'd be a bummer to miss it.

@alistercat: That's what I ended up doing because you can just load up a Premium Adventure to do the rest of that stuff. IIRC they still have like a third of the chapters left, though some are quite short.

Miyuki Sawashiro gives a great performance as Makoto in this game, pretty different from the type of stuff she usually gets cast for. Fun fact, besides a bunch of anime stuff and Japanese games, she also did the dubs for Elizabeth in Bioshock Infinite and Ciri in Witcher 3.

While I don't disagree with you, unless they start the next episode with those things, the story kind of ramps up from this point on, and I'm not sure they'll end up doing any more of those side activities unless they take an unnatural break from the plot at the point of no return.

I had been playing with them and stopping when they did until recently but from this point you blow through the story really, really quickly so even though there are like 4 chapters left they go by in no time. I stood around for hours grinding out every side mission and business.

The pacing of the businesses in particular would kill a lot of the story tension. It ramps up very fast at the end. I only just finished it but like I said above I was following them up to this point. Maybe going back to it at the end, but still even then it's a lot of staring at money menus in between the goofy story beats for the businesses.

The side stories are fine though.

This shooting section was bad to play but OK to watch. Dan did so much better than I did and made it look less terrible than it actually is.

Oh and I forgot to mention this episode was more enjoyable than the last one. Good to see Dan having fun again.

I don't see that anyone has explained this yet so let me add to the wealth of Japanese knowledge other duders have presented so far:

@vinny

You were correct, Kiryu whispers "iku zo" to himself when you enact the heat eye slowdown. It's the rough form of saying "let's do this!" (ie. how a young masculine yakuza would mutter to himself so add your choice of expletive), with a literal translation of "go!".

Love the feature, bought the game after you guys started and just a bit farther ahead than where you are here. Stopped the video to post this, can't wait to see the reaction to the big reveal with Tachibana/Oda/Makoto!

I remember a small business loan for me came through when my wife and I were visiting my parents and my mom's FIRST reaction was:

"WE SHOULD DO SHOTS!!!"

She's not a heavy drinker by ANY stretch, but that was the last time I truly enjoyed doing shots.

This is where it all ramps up! There's some real good moments in this episode. I don't think they'll want to take too much time out of the story from here on out because things start to get pretty intense. But you can always finish the business games after completing it, so if they reach the end perhaps that could be a good spot to see all that side stuff (there might have to be a little time-killing on Kiryu's end though). It might be even a perfect time-filler before Kiwami arrives, presuming that they're still planning to go onto that afterwards.

Yakuza: the game where people get shot multiple times and survive like it's no big deal but a guy gets stabbed in the leg and it's like the end of the world.

Other than that, damn, I wasn't expecting the story of this game to be so good. I started watching this series expecting it to be like another Shenmue but with better gameplay but now I'm seriously invested in the story.
