At 18:25, you pushed that guy coccyx-first in the railing - it's a location-specific Heat move.

Thank you for this series! It's been an incredible adventure and genuinely one of the things I look forward to the most each week, I hope you're still planning to do more games in the series down the line because I'm so excited for more.

I know you were planning to do a "side mission cleanup" stream, but perhaps if you aren't going have time to do all the business stuff as well you could just watch those cutscenes and get the story bits from it. There's some pretty great moments in there!

EDIT: I will never understand Dan's obsession with health upgrades in this game. He hasn't died since about the third episode, aside from that one arena run. You can stock so many full healing items that unless you're fighting Mr Shakedown it just feels pointless, versus buying more cool moves and increased damage. (Also standing right outside the drug store talking about the koopa statue and then not going there for the best heals... sadly that's just the way things go with once-a-week features, but it would definitely have made Dan's life easier.)

@alex For the post-game stream, can you buy and use this ability? It was a shame to see Slugger style so neglected in this playthrough, as it's probably the best style for dealing with blocking enemies. The poke with the bat using the O button lets you break guard easily and keep pummelling, while some of the swing combos are really safe against large groups.

This one heat move is super simple to pull off, and for the 100+ times I watched it play out on my run through the game, never stopped being ABSOLUTELY BRUTAL. It'd be a shame if you missed it.

Half way through the video and I've lost track of how many exaggerated sighs Dan has felt were necessary to let us know he can't stand the combat.

To be fair I think making these weekly means hes forgotten half the tools the game has given him but come on.

Outside of that I adored this series.

@doctornieves: Seriously, I was excited for this and its really killing my vibe.

Man, they didn't even notice their clear time on the final screen (47:22 or something that effect) and then they asked what it was. Guess that's the Beast crew playing through this game in a nutshell.

Anyway, looking forward to that side quest stream at the end of this week. This series was one of the reasons I upgraded to Premium, and it was worth it. It was a great ride with all you guys, and I look forward to them playing through Kiwami in a couple months whenever that will be, and then hopefully the rest of the series, and their take on it. Just hope they'll remember some of the stuff in this game that gets called back in later games, or even just the story come Kiwami. Looking forward to it.

Now to watch more Premium videos while my subscription lasts. Gotta catch up on a bunch while I'm at it.

I hope for Kiwami Alex takes the wheel and plays the game,

Dan seems more into the story rather than playing and Alex seems more the fan of everything and would be more willing to tolerate the gameplay.

But nagging aside, this was easily one of the best series on GB since the days of the persona ER and random pc game.

I hope you do come back to play Yakuza Kiwami after a little break - maybe put Alex in charge of the controls though to give Dan a break (and because I think Vinny did Shenmue)?

This game has such an amazing ending. Thank you so much to all the guys and especially Alex for spearheading this series. I love both the video game series and the video series and I hope you guys get the urge to play through Kiwami at some point. It`s really nice to see a series that has been overlooked for so long get some love.

It was a long road, but you did it. Congratulations, guys!

I very much hope you guys play through Kiwami on the site. I agree that it'd be overkill to attempt to do the whole series, but playing just Kiwami would be a nice complement to the prequel-based nature of this game's story.

Also, maybe now Dan understands a little how Drew felt during all those MGS boss fights

Thanks for sticking with it to the end, really enjoyed seeing you guys play! I'd absolutely love to see you work through the rest of the series and i feel like Dan in particular would *looooooove* Yakuza 2, but like you said, Kiwami isn't out for awhile and you don't wanna rush through all of them.

1-3 aren't terribly long games (~40 tops if you reeeaaally try to stretch them out,) but I marathoned them all again recently and: don't do that. No one do that.

No matter what you choose to do with the series though, I'm glad these games got some more attention and I'm glad you enjoyed this one!

That body counter that Vinny was suggesting at around 11:50 that lets you counter from blocking stance for no heat cost seemed REAL good and Dan was just like "nah".

Also I feel like while the game is awesome on its own it didn't really deliver in terms of being an origin story to Majima's personality. He fought a bunch of guys and then at the end was like "Okay I guess I'm gonna be absolutely crazy from now on." instead of having any kind of impactful scene that served as an origin point or a slower natural development over the course of the game towards becoming Mad Dog Majima.

This is the third time I've watched this game through (including my own playthrough), and the ending is still just as great. Yakuza 5 was starting to feel a little stale and unfocused, but they really brought it back with this one.

Was super fun to experience the game alongside the Beast crew, looking forward to the wrap-up stream and wherever else this feature goes.

@spacebacon: The game actually does have a slow buildup to where Majima's character ends up, but the thing you and a lot of people seem to miss is that this game isn't meant to explain why he snapped and became a nutso, as much as it is to show that it's mostly just an act and a defense from getting used and hurt by everyone. It's actually a way nicer direction to take that character in, as opposed to the obvious thing everyone was expecting.

@mikesmithvw: I'll keep that in mind, I'm catching up with Hitman stuff right now.

Having now watched the pre-finale part of this video, I can't help but be disappointed that they didn't remember where the pharmacy was for Staminan Royales, even though they were right outside it when they noticed the kappa statue. Oh well, at least the Staminan XXs that they picked up at Don Quijote were enough, until Kiryu picked up more on the boat.

I think they also forgot that they could block bullets with objects or while guarding with a skill they bought last time in Beast style, which probably would've made that section a lot easier. At least they seemed to do ok with Beast with Shibusawa.

Wished they could've maybe finished the Beast/Brawler training that they had available. So many unpurchased Heat moves that could afford but they probably would've never pulled out though it would've looked really cool if they pulled it off, like the Beast shoulder break or counter punch or the pole break or the Brawler pickup and slam combo.

Also, they popped right into the finale when they switched over to Majima again without topping off on healing items or going back to Osaka to finish training either. So many missed opportunities that I hope they pick up on in the post game wrap up stream this Friday... We never did get to see Majima steal a hidden blade with his Batman vision that they got last week.

@teddie: I think it's a bit of both, I mean he did say the guys who lived a crazy lifestyle really inspired him. And yeah I feel like he had such a tough time keeping track of who's an ally and who's an enemy he figured it was easier to just go nuts, have fun and fight whoever he could instead of being kicked around trying to be a straightforward guy in a Yakuza environment. Plus probably dulling the pain of having to let go of Makoto.

I just feel like I wanted something a bit more impactful maybe. How it's presented it feels like he makes a decision based on experience and then it's instant. I can get behind the explanation but not the presentation is what I want to say.

@spacebacon: I will agree that it still seems like too much of a hard swing into the "Kiryu-chan!" at the end (although you could argue that's a fanservice scene), but he doesn't act at the level of Mad Dog as we see him in the rest of the series outside of that one instance in this game.

There is a 20 year gap before we see him again, and this game takes place over, like, a week at best so I think it'd be difficult to make it ramp up comfortably to where he is in Yakuza 1 without it seeming forced, or like you said, an instant decision. A lot of people (myself included) think it could've led into his usual character better though, so I'm not gonna say they did the best job either.

Someone has to do a supercut of every time they asked "Who's that again?"

All they need to do is finish the bowling friendship and they can give this game GOTY and take the rest of the year off.

Man, if Dan is already feeling iffy about this game you should rethink your decision to play through the entire series - or at least skip the PS2 and PS3 ones because this is by far the best Yakuza game - both gameplay and story-wise.

If you do plan on tackling Kiwami, you have to pass off the controller to someone else - preferrably Alex. Even if he's worse than Dan, he at least seems enthusiastic about the gameplay.

Dan will be glad to know Yakuza 6 has a completely redone combat engine that is much more friendly to button mashing; it's a lot more 'western' and more forgiving.

Thank you for doing this, you made my Monday's a day to look forward to.

And Dan, great work on the fighting this last episode. Aside from not blocking all those bullets in Beast mode (you guys even brought it up), but that's forgivable :p You completely wrecked Shibusawa during that second phase.

I know he still finished the game and all, but holy shit Dan probably made things way more hard on himself by being too stubborn with his "just stand there and mash" strategy. He seemed to finally get it somewhat in the last fight but his annoyed sighs and grunts in other fights got really grating because it came across like it was the game's fault and not his. I can totally see Dan docking the game for its combat when it comes to GOTY and me getting pissed over it.

@ravelle: it's called bad retconning. I have no idea why they decided to do this 180 on his persona only to not really justify it. Yakuza 0 Majima and the Majima from the rest of the series are for all intents and purposes two completely different characters.

@ravelle: I probably don't need to spoiler tag this but I'm gonna anyway because there's mention of later games here:

Majima never really turns crazy. His speech at the end is basically "I'm gonna act crazier, and I'm gonna look scarier than anyone in this town because I refuse to get hurt like this ever again."

This lines up with his character arc over the series, where in 4 and 5 he's grooming someone to take over the family and much more vocal about "Somewhere along the way, I got old, I can't keep this act up anymore."
