I was also one of those kids who just collected Pokémon cards because no one knew/wanted to learn how to play that damn game.

I played a bunch of that LotR card game. It is a weird game, but you needed a ton of cards to play and it took forever. Good nostalgia.

Can confirm. Only child here that also played board games by myself and had Trading Cards for games that I didn't know how to play.

Crazy that this came up, when I was just looking through my old cards and shared some on Twitter yesterday:

I think I played every card game represented in that binder at some point. Semi-fond memories of playing in tournaments/leagues for some of them, I might even still have the badges of the Pokemon leagues somewhere.

There's actually a GBA game for the DBZ card game. It had an "anger" meter as a mechanic!

I was gonna send my collection of like 100 online cards to Jan, but I think he might be good for a while.

I would watch a 6 hour stream of Jan and Ben redeeming every one of those PTCGO codes and opening every pack.

I wish these either weren't recorded with an iPhone or the camera stayed still for more than a second. It's like 16 minutes of wild auto-focus.

Maybe buy a gimbal or something?

Looked up the Japanese Misty (Kasumi) trainer card. Apparently your mom made you throw away a pretty expensive card. I am glad you were saved from the moral corruption of her side-boob though.

I was never cool enough for collectible card games. I only ever got regular trading cards, mostly comic book ones. Got some holograms, but never got any signatures. I also used to keep comics in binders before I learned to properly bag and board them into boxes.

Yes, it was Pippen and Merry. Those were their nicknames, as their full names were longer. Neither of them died... except when Merry became Charlie on Lost.

@benpack I think your base set Alakazam might be worth some coin. It looked to be a shadowless version, which was a small potion of base set printed without a drop shadow around the Pokemon portrait.

So that could be worth somewhere around $50, depending on the condition.

If you have more holo cards that are in good condition, you might even consider sending them to be graded. Though that is pretty expensive on its own.

That is the most random assortment of trading cards brands I've seen in a single binder. I only stuck with basketball cards. I'm bummed out that Panini is the exclusive trading card partner for the NBA. I miss the other brands growing up like Upper Deck and Topps. It's unfortunate that Fleer went out of business.

I collected a lot of Pokemon, Digimon, Magic and DBZ cards (the early 2000s ones) but I never bothered to learn how to actually play with any of them, lol. I was too lazy. I just liked the look of the cards and finding rares.

Also collected hockey cards for a brief period because my friends did, but found them super dull.

Y'all should try magic the gathering arena to get into magic, it's good. I've always wanted to learn and that game does a good job with giving you a lot of free decks and a good tutorial

Jabba does absolutely appear in The Phantom Menace. He is present for the podrace. He starts the race off and then falls asleep before the end.

You have no idea how excited I got when Jan mentioned playing the DBZ TCG and then Ben showed his cards. I had several of the same cards. Namekian Headbutt! Also a lot of the exact same Pokémon cards.

I had younger sisters so I got a hero deck and got Piccolo who I wanted. My sister's got villain decks for 18 and only one got her. The other got 16.

I really am the same age as you guys. Love you two together.

@benpack

Please put that Simpsons sketch in a protector case. Those are pretty valuable and go for a decent amount. What makes this one really nice, is it has two main characters and it's in color. Most of the sketches from that set were done with a sharpie or pen, and no color. Rich Moore directed a bunch of great Simpsons episodes and recently Zootopia and the Wreck It Ralph movies. Look up Magnetic One Touch card holders.

Yep, never played the Pokémon TCG despite owning a fair amount of cards, nor did I know anyone who ever did. It's pretty crazy that the franchise was so damn popular it managed to convince people to buy cards for something they were never going to actually use. But I did play a couple of games of Yu-Gi-Oh, once with my brother (I forced him to), and one at a summer camp school thing.
