mfw someone says a swear to the teacher.

Vinny is such a patient sweetheart. Impressed at how well he was able to think on his feet while literally on his back. That is one deft parenting maneuver.

I wish they would Voight-Kampff someone in this Blade Runner game. Especially because whether a character is a replicant or not is randomized per playthrough.

I think it's telling that my ears only perk up when the game seems to betray what Alex is expecting to happen next based on a walk-through guide. I feel like this sort of semi-dynamic adventure game would be better served with the chat providing guidance now and then, that way when the game twists and turns in a way you weren't expecting you can sit back and enjoy those moments on their own terms instead of rushing to a script to make sure what's happening is, "what's supposed to happen".

One thing that always bugged me about this game (and to be fair, the same goes for many other games, books, and movies like it) is that they didn't seem to have confidence in their own writing, and instead recycled so much from the movie. Deckard did this, so you have to do it too. Deckard went here, so you have to go there as well. It gives the whole thing a kinda lazy fan-fiction feel.

@antime: I believe the term you're looking for is "fan-service", and you're right, it's pervasive and grating.

(It's also extremely obvious and one of my main peeves of the newest Star Wars trilogy: "Hey do you remember the mysterious old Jedi-hermit in the OG trilogy? Well here's recluse-Luke-Skywalker! Did you like the wise-cracking scoundrel who's also a crack pilot? Here he is, Po Damaron! Fondly remember R2-D2? Well, duh, we've got BB-8! Looking for the young hero who possesses raw magic -- I mean, Force -- powers but lacks discipline and self-confidence? Rey's got you covered!")

Yeah, I think the videos would be more interesting if they had tried that a few times.

Still, I am mostly enjoying them.

Oh man. Listening to Vinny's father/family/home stories have honestly been the highlights of Giant Bomb for as long as I can remember. I really hope Jeff follows suit.

@vinny

The arrest was definitely a reference to the original book and the replicant police office, which is probably why it felt like "2 games colliding" as you mentioned. It's a hard pull from one of the most confusing scenes in the book, which is itself wildly different in tone from the film and this game.

That bit with the sewer bridge was amazing. Especially because of Ray's instant fall to his death.

Just realised whenever Ray is talking to himself i'm reminded of Alan Wake, they even look similar.

@hansolol:

That rat bridge sequence is why these games are so much fun for me to watch Vinny play. It reminded me of when he kept getting his face torn apart in Phantasmagoria over and over.

Can I get a compilation on Vinny family stories? As a father to a young family (3.5y and 5m) it's extremely helpful.

@vectortheangel: I'm a single person with no kids or grandkids and I love his stories. It's really fun to hear about it and I love when anyone on the team talks about parenting. I would love a compilation like that too.

I don't know if this aspect gets better in episode 3 but Alex basically doing nothing but reading a walkthrough and telling Vinny everything he needs to do does not make for a good adventure game playthrough. A lot of the charm for me in those old random pc game/ choose our own adventure was vinny going and trying to figure out things himself with lots of hilarity. That being said, I'll watch Vinny play any adventure game he wants, I just wish he had someone to play off of
