I didn't realize before watching this but I think a big part of Hyperviolent Isometric Action Puzzlers is a really grimy soundtrack. I feel like this game, while incredibly stylish doesn't fuel me at a primal level like some other games in this shortly named genre.

I did a Bing search for "Single stroke stuff" and now I'm being arrested.

Wolfline Bearami.

This certainly looks competent, but I'll admit I was more into the game before I realized that the protagonist was just a dude in a costume and not ACTUALLY a flannel-wearing bear.

The exact spot Jan said he died a lot on frustrated me to no end too. The height differences/perspectives with the camera zooming out a lot and your character being small made me feel like half of those deaths were due to me losing track of my character. Also trying to keep track of how many uses your items have with multiple enemies launching at you has been pretty taxing.

I do like the style and it's snappy (and smooth) to play on PC, plus it does feel real good to nail a room in one go, but I'm kinda afraid it might get frustratingly difficult towards the end.

The single stroke (or iaijutsu thing?) possibly has its origins in Akira Kurosawa films. I first remember seeing it in Seven Samurai in the sequence that introduces the swordmaster, and there's a bloodier version in Sanjuro.

Neat game. I like the wide array of weapons & how interactible all these objects are. Houses can be smashed down for planks, the cart you ride on can be taken apart for the wheels, the grain can be burnt.

Sadly the platforming + isometric view seems quite frustrating at times. Especially when you try to jump down on a lower platform. There's also a lot of sloppy clipping to be seen. Like when Jan walks straight through a bunch of trees or when his hands clip through the chainsaw during the close-up. The levels also feel very samey and like it's mostly a reshuffling of the items & enemies instead of it feeling like a natural world you go through. At least a thematic change would help to keep things interesting. Jan did say that there were 3 acts, so hopefully that means 3 theme changes with different environments, items & enemies.

Performance could be better too. Saw quite some hitching here, especially when the new objective shows up. And those assist options seem quite all-or-nothing. getting armor which tanks 1 extra hit seems like a decent compromise for people that might get frustrated by the difficulty, but being straight up invulnerable or getting rid of the enemies doesn't seem all that much fun for anyone. And given that there's an off toggle, both options pretty much do the same thing.

Sadly the platforming + isometric view seems quite frustrating at times.

I'm at part 4 of Act 2 (I think) and I've grown to absolutely loathe the platforming in this game, to the point that I would just refund the whole thing if I could do that anymore. Can't even get past that with invincibility turned on, so not sure if I bother finishing up the game even with cheats on.

@glots: How'd you go on the boss for Act 2? That was the MOST frustrated I've been in this thing so far...

I enjoy watching the different death animations, my favourite is probably the fish.
