Huh, and I was just wondering when the archive was gonna be. Look forward to it!

EDIT: This by the way continues the trend of me having never seen Zoe Quinn without a cat.

I liked Depression quest. I broke into tears and started mildly freaking out about halfway through, but I got help after that.

So yeah, Zoe Quinn is cool.

Zoe Quinn impresses me because she took what was a terrible part of her life and turned it into something positive, not only for herself, but for others. Its so easy to take the path of reactive self involvement and use your personal trials as excuses for being a victim. Ms. Quinn seems determined to do what she loves on her terms and work as hard as it takes. Thats extra inspirational in a world were many young people expect so much to be handed to them and depend on those around them to carry their weight the second life becomes a bit trying.

I guarantee Zoe Quinn and I would disagree on much within those taboo topics of religion and politics, but I think she is a great example for young women, or anyone who has an interest in game development. Her ability to use games to help others puts her in a special class of people this world needs more of......

Batman jokes in your Twitter handle are just icing on the cake.

Thanks for having her as a guest Alex and Patrick. I will definitely check out and support her work.

Should have had a counter for all the hair sweeps.

Very cool! Like just you two but guests are great! I wish I could say I could relate to Depression Quest, but right away it was saying things about a partner and friends trying to help you out, and I just couldn't relate to that.

Very cool guest! I've been dabbling with videogame development somewhat, but I've been quite overwhelmed in the process; even Unity is a bit too complex for me right now. Twine sounds like a good stepping stone that I might try out.

Anyway, I strongly recommend that people check out Depression Quest. It's not long and it's only slightly painful.

I don't get why some folks insist on being so full of shit. When it comes to interactive digital mediums, there are applications and there are video games. Applications are tools or provide a service, video games provide entertainment.

Depression Quest doesn't let me rip DVDs or monitor my computer for viruses. It's a goddamn video game.

I just finished Broken Age and found it somewhat disappointing. The art is cool, but I just couldn't get into the main characters. The girl, Vella, is better than the boy in that respect, but still has somewhat of a milquetoast personality. They created a great cartoon/storybook world and the two main characters are the most boring ones in it.

The puzzles are simple to the point of almost being insulting. Moving away from the "use item X on every other item and object until you happen upon the ridiculous solution" puzzles of some 90s adventure games is good, but they kind of went too far in the opposite direction. The game is dangerously close to "click button to see next story beat" so solving the puzzles aren't particularly rewarding on their own and seeing the story play out isn't a much better reward when I don't care about the characters.

On the plus side, in spite of not liking the main characters much, the overarching story is interesting and I do ultimately want to see how it plays out.

I'm sure that to some extent I'm a victim of my own overblown expectations, but even taking that into account, the game still falls far short of the brilliance of either Full Throttle and Grim Fandango and more than anything it mostly just made we want "HD" versions of those games.

This is the most positive comments section I have ever seen, good work internet!

Good interview guys, heartfelt and difficult to do given the appalling vitriol I was expecting this might pick up. I remember thinking not much of the game starting it a few months back, but got immediately hooked and believe its given me some understanding and empathy of what friends with depression go through.

That's also the best picture for a video on the site - ever.

interesting, not quite what I expected, especially the sound effects.

I do think the interview touch on more then I was expecting, like even just patron services and how it could help. Fascinating especially in the times we live in

Just finished watching this, warmed my heart and now I feel inspired to write a Twine game about post-9/11 paranoia as a muslim dude XD It was tough hearing the debate of how to make a living off free personal games while having a donate button or service like Patreon just to put food on your table. A good mix of light-hearted and serious discussion, thank you for that.

Having played Depression Quest last year, I went in expecting an exercise in empathy to understand the disorder but then came aware that I was depressed for the last whole year over studies. Helped me a lot, just that awareness. I don't have a significant other, which goes to show how relatable the game is to anyone without needing the specific circumstances. I would definitely like more games about depression or other mental disorders.

Is Zoe Canadian? One of the phone numbers she uses in her game is a Canadian number that links to Toronto Therapists. Either she is, or she's programmed some sort of thing that checks your IP and gives you the closest Therapist Offices. Although that seems a bit beyond the scope of interactive novel.
