The Doom modding community has been around since the game came out and has been putting out new maps and mods and changes and everything big and small constantly and still does to this day. There is always new content coming out for Doom. It will probably never stop. A lot of it is extremely good. Check out the Eviternity map pack for starters, then look at gameplay mods like Demonsteele, High Noon Drifter, Samsara, La Tailor Girl, Russian Overkill. There are so many.

Japan even has a Doom modding community, even though it's small. They put out a map pack called Japanese Community Project.

@brad Zandronum is a great way to see crazy new Doom engine shit, Doomseeker autodownlaods WADs when you connect to a server and it's amazing.

I know Brad probably won't ever do it but please play Golden Souls 2! It's Super Mario World + Doom 2 in a mod and it's incredible. Everyone should play it! It's crazy how well designed it is and how much it captures the magic of SMW while still being essentially Doom.

I know, right?! I'm currently catching up, on a mad spree of playing many legendary mappacks (Memento Mori II at the moment) and it's making all games seem boring by comparison!

I played Eviternity recently. It has 5 episodes, each with a distinct setting/aesthetic, so I played each one with a different gameplay mod: (GMOTA, Trailblazer, Guncaster, Demonsteele, Nun With a Gun) and it was one of the best gaming experiences ever, no exaggeration. Also with setting appropriate monster replacement mods. Highly recommended.

I know the crew's always busy with the constant deluge of games, but I wish one of them would dedicate some time to enjoy (and spread the word of) good modding like this.

Well, thanks for that little tip. 64 is such a weird ass game, so similar and different at the same time. And here it looks miles better than that original oddity.

@csl316: yep! Starting messing with it a couple days ago and it's a ton of fun. I've been playing the brutal 64 version in GZdoom. Runs at 2 or 4k and looks great. It's a nice little treat before Eternal comes out.

Get yourself a man that looks at you the way Brad looks at infighting monsters.

This was a nice feature, but not in the spirit of Breaking Brad. I'd rather he played it on a lower difficulty than use Quick Save.

Ah crud, Brad accidentally chose the worst lighting option, by far. "Doom Legacy" lighting mode is a reference to a late 90s source port of doom that was a pretty good port, but infamous for basically taking all lighting out of the game and making it as evenly-lit as possible. Basically 0 contrast.

For example, in stage 2 of Sigil, you're not supposed to be able to see the red cave walls in the distance, it's supposed to look like you are in a building that is surrounded by a pitch black void. But "Doom Legacy" lighting brightens up all sectors so that there's never really darkness anywhere in the game.

Unfortunately, Sigil's most central aesthetic theme, is...moody claustrophobic darkness <_< <_<

Brad! Definitely switch to pretty much any other lighting mode, a good choice is "Doom Software Renderer" lighting mode. Sigil's use of intense contrast is really rad to see!!

(Better yet, go to Video Options and set Render Mode to "Doom Software Renderer" and forget OpenGL altogether, it's such a blurry mess!)

I feel like it should have been way easier for Ben to get his hands on Doom shareware. I can't imagine paying $20 for Doom.

I should play Doom again.

Rorie, "beating" Nights into Dreams without getting an A rank on every level is like "beating" Doom on "I'm too young to die" difficulty.

That level with the ceilings falling down reminds me a lot of the puzzly sections of Hexen.

I think Ben got his Dooms mixed up. DOOM 2016 is $20 on Steam but the old Doom games, Ultimate Doom(aka Doom 1), Doom 2, Final Doom, and Doom 3 are all $5 each on Steam

These comments below are crazy. I never heard of quick saving as being cheating back in the day. It was always viewed as part of the game on PC. It was another tool to use in beating games. Not every FPS had it and some even had limited saves. I do think save states in emulation is cheating because it's literally not a part of the game's features.
