Quick Look: Code Vein

Really enjoying my time with this game once I had more blood codes. Also spoilers... I heard this takes place in the God Eater universe???

I'm not too far in but it seems like Jason needs to find more Regen Extensions to boost the amount of healing you get from each "estus". From what I've played its useful to take the ranger tree early and inherit out the ability that lets you ping items on your map and tells you how many items are left in the area. Should make things easier to revisit and do some gathering.

I still think I will pick this up at some point. The art and creature design, dark aesthetic, huge ass weapons make me real tempted to get this day one. My primary concern is hearing the stracks don't freak impactful

Swap around your Blood Codes more, when you use skills enough you can use them on whichever one. And the gear you can use is 100% dependent on the Blood Code you're using so you can use everything you've found. I had trouble at the same boss and I ended up going for a more anti-poison build which helped me beat her. Don't be afraid to switch up your partners either, Yakumo is very helpful in the earlier areas (you wouldn't normally have Mia at this point anyway). Being less mashy and dodging more will be much more helpful too, lol.

The area design is just ruined city for a bit, but outside of those two areas they're much more varied with some real cool locals. The level design makes me really explore a lot more to find the hidden stuff, I spend much longer on levels trying to get to every nook and cranny than I ever did in the Soulsborne games, as it felt near impossible to find the fake walls in that without hitting all of them. The map is actually useful too, despite being a bit confusing at first.

While the general wrapper is very soulsy, with the level design, Haze being your currency/exp (with the required corpse runs), and the bonfires it's basically its own thing outside of that. The story actually seems pretty solid too, so far.

EDIT: I don't get what's wrong with the stamina bar being a white bar either? They're normally just green bars.

This is exactly what I expected when he said he was having trouble on the bombcast, swapping classes and unlocking skills is much more important than increasing your level and this boss is a huge wall for people because of that. If you look at your blood codes and realize you can unlock a skill that prevents/cures poison for 2 Ichor it's a completely different fight.

Is this any better or different than the beta they had a while back? It looks pretty similar.

@drm2thej: It's better than the network test last year, the demo from early September is the same as the full game.

I'm going to miss being able to make Big'n'Veiny jokes about this game...

The power of FRIENDSHIP!

I'm not a Dark Souls fan but I got this for free with my ASUS motherboard and I thought it was pretty fun. I have only played a bit of Demon Souls before, never Dark Souls but I liked this more than that.

This is maybe my favorite non-From soulslike so far, 32 hours in.

Play the other classes and unlock their skills so you can mix and match between them. Hit things with a big sword and throw lightning bolts and cure yourself of poison. That's how the system is built and not doing it only makes it harder.

Why does this look like a handheld game? Its probably just me. reminds me of soul sacrifice or something

Boy most of Jason complaints seem to be solvable by changing blood code, maybe applying a blood code that increases the length of your dash and also cures/resists poison might help. Also saying that the map is useless and is very linear while displaying a map that shows you've missed several places that have items(the star crosses on the map). One of the ways to increase your healing ability is finding increased healing factor which is hidden in the nooks and cranny's of the world.

I hope I'm not coming off as a jerk here but this might be one of the easiest Souls games I've ever played and it's pretty nice to just play it and sort breeze through levels and not have the same tension of dealing with combat scenario that I have to puzzle out or deal with split second timing.
