This is just not enjoying to watch. I agree with others that the game relies heavily on its atmosphere and sound design, and by chatting up with others and not paying attention nullifies that. I'm fine with Abby rushing through this just because it's her job, but with the way Abby is playing this and the format that it's on, it just feels so forced.

It's annoying hearing Abby constantly complain about a game's design/controls/features even though she made no effort on understanding it to begin with.

For example: The three joked about how much the game kept telling them to shoot at their limbs in episode one, yet Abby keeps shooting center mass and then complains about why they're not dead.

I love that Abby is playing this in her own way, playing on a stream with two other people joining in on the talk, I think it's hard to have a real slowpaced quiet playthrough in this context, as many of us had when we played it the first time.

Many times I have had the thought what would happend if on one of these streams on Giantbomb, they played a game "perfectly" Brad never dying in a videogame (sorry for bringin up that old joke)

Vinny playing a Open world game flawlessly, and so on, man I think it would be so boring to watch.

Abby plays the game her way, we may like or dislike it, but it's a way, yeah she may miss alot of the amazing sound designs from the creaking of the Ishimura's hull, or the Monsters sound design, the way they can surprise your during moments without sound.

I'm not saying I enjoy this playthrough, but I like to hear them talk, and so I just have it runing in the background and look from time to time, I'm sure there will come many more playthourghs with Abby I enjoy more, like Resident Evil 2 for instance.

Mark Brown perfectly sums up my feelings on Dead Space 1 in his video serie about Deadspace.

folks, this game is NOT scary.

I was the biggest horror baby when i played it at launch and was able to get through it no problem.

Yeah it’s gruesome, and loud, and really wants to make you feel unease but honestly they give you enough tools and abilities to make you feel wholly capable the entire game. The first weapon you get is strong and impactful enough to see you through the whole game, it just FEELS powerful to chop up the guys in this one.

I love this game, was my first platinum, but it undercuts its spookiness all by itself, regardless of who you have around.

I was gonna say this. There was a couple jump scares that got me. But I'm someone who very much does not like the tension and anxiety that comes with playing a horror game and I finished this fine playing in a dark room at night in college.

For reference I got too spooped by SOMA and I don't think people typically find that game very scary.

Couldn't agree more - I too am a horror weakling, but managed to play through it in the dark, in college, something I could not do with games like SOMA and Amnesia. Dead Space is a thriller, more than a horror.

It masterfully balances tension and power, and the payoff from that balance is the gratifying sense of competence it bestows upon the player - which is just enough to offset the "horrific" elements.

Fears are personal. If someone finds something scary or not scary, but you have a different reaction, they're not wrong and you're not right. Nor are they diminishing your fears for not sharing them. For your own sake and the sake of the staff, stop talking in those terms. Chill out. Go watch something else.

For my part, I don't give a shit about the sanctity of this game or which ways of play are 'correct' or not. I like spending time with these people, and this game seems well-made and is neat to look at, and so I like watching these videos.

Too many people spend too much time implicitly demanding that Giant Bomb staff play games the way they would like to watch them be played, rather than the way the staff wants to play them. I urge you to reevaluate the dynamics of this relationship.

@kcin: To be clear, I don't think we were denying anyone else's reactions in our little thread below, just sharing our own personal memories (I also didn't comment to be critical, I'm enjoying watching this playthrough)

Thereeee's at least some tension totally lost in this format, regardless of if it's a *horror* horror game or not. Also hopefully abby uses up some of her stacks of ripper ammo too, so she has more of the other ammo on hand

Really enjoying this feature. Makes it better that Vinny and Alex can join in with the banter. Needs more Bakalar as well.

In the first episode they kept joking about the game repeating the "cut off their limbs" thing over and over, but now they appear to have completely forgotten that mechanic. This might be the first time MORE bloody scrawls on a wall would actually have been helpful.
