I really enjoy this feature now that Jeff is in on it, Dan & Drew are all right but let's be honest, Jeff is where it's at when it comes to the type of stuff demo discs are filled with: insanity.

I feel like reviewing demo discs requires a lot of knowledge of the content and Jeff fits that bill perfectly.

I haven't watched this episode yet, but I really appreciated Jeff's presence in the last episode.

Like others have mentioned, the addition of someone who has first-hand knowledge of both the games and the industry at that time is incredibly interesting.

I love the Dan & Drew combo, don't get me wrong, but I think the Dan/Drew/Jeff trio for this one is pretty fantastic.

I'm thinking they need to make they're own demo disc for game of the year/generation. They could present each winner as a game on the disc and do weird video skits in between.

( ...That's not how that works!)

(...C'mon!)

Gold very early in.

And as others have said, adding Jeff as a regular really adds a certain something to this. Drew was obviously always a pretty selective game player and while Dan was super into a lot of the games from this period his enthusiasm for this stuff needs a counter, and that counter isn't Drew's "well I wasn't around, so I don't know, it's impressive this game runs?" perspective. It's Jeff's "oh God I played ten games like this every two months at Gamespot in those days" perspective.

I really like Tara Strong, so Harley Quinn's okay in my book. But yup, that character can be annoying.

Yes and he's also great for putting things in a historical context. Jeffs encyclopediac mind when it comes to games is a true wonder.

I remember using a gameshark and playing mercenaries it was the best thing ever but it would also just freeze the system because so much crap would be exploding with infinite bombs.

@el_funko: Not just Jeff -- each one brings their own set of experience to the table. Jeff has played nearly every game on these demo disks, has reviewed a good number of them, and can talk about how the demos fare in relation to the final product, all of which brings a lot of informational value to the audience.

Dan, at the time these disks were out, was the super-consumer. He's played most of these games (and many of the actual demos) and is knowledgeable about their release and promotion due to his time at Funcoland. He approaches these from a former fanboy's perspective, and prefers to tell the audience why a game is fun rather than why it's good.

Drew fills the role of the average consumer and is the audience surrogate. He's played a good number of the games on the disks, but not a majority. He has less personal insight and experience with each, which adds to the feature as well, as the average viewer is likely to have this level of experience with these games/demos.

Overall, all of them fill an important role on these. I do agree that Jeff is a great addition for the reasons you mentioned, but I enjoyed them just fine before he joined (and I imagine that with the constraints on his time, it's probably unlikely he can join all of these in the future). He does offer an invaluable insider's perspective that really makes a very interesting premium feature even better.

All of that GAP stuff is just sad. Mostly because all of those people are over 18, or at least I think they are. That dating sim entry would've been fine for a 13 year old kid but to think that a grown ass woman thought that she could impress someone with those drawing skills and that awful writing. It just reeks of Dunning-Kruger. And the guy with the long letter apparently had no idea what E3 was even like.

I love these segments but I'm totally okay if you guys want to skip through some of the text garbage.

Great job folks!

EDIT: Also feel free to leave Jeff at home next time. The cynicism really kills the nostalgia.

It's a kids game Jeff. Get the fuck over it.

Sheep Raider's actually a pretty cool stealth puzzle game. I played it about 3-4 years ago after seeing a Let's Play of it.

The kind of guy who says out loud they'll never be into Pixar or Harry Potter because it's "kid stuff" as a statement of pride is the kind of guy I avoid at parties and everyday life if I can help it, let alone appreciate any of their output on a video game site. I love you, @danryckert, but goddamn it is hard to like you.
