@hellscream: This was a particularly frustrating episode from the chat side. I don't quite remember how the Quest Markers work in the game but they were definitely showing him the circle for another quest. That said the Witch quest description says right there "Area: Witchwood" - furthermore when Jason destroyed that first totem he must have not noticed that the fog of war lifted on the map in that area. Then when he encountered another totem for whatever reason he didn't destroy it? Hopefully he gets it next time cause I'm enjoying seeing Jason play through the game.

The blue quest marker is the start of Bitterblack Isle and yellow just means a quest that isn't your active one. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Map Icons meaning, as near as I can tell...

  • Blue Circle is a major quest that moves the story forward.
  • Red Circle = Your currently selected quest.
  • Yellow Circle = A quest not currently selected.

If the map has a BIG red ring around a whole area, the game is hinting that a person or object you are hunting is in that area.

Also, I noticed this. Jason wondered why teh girls selling potions has a "red icon" over her head:

  • Green icon over people's heads = they have a new quest
  • Yellow icon over people's heads = they have information about a quest
  • Red icon over someone's head = has information or is someone you need to speak to about a quest [this information can be general, like "wolves hunt in packs"]
  • Blue icon over someone's head = go there to complete a story moving quest

I hope Jason sticks with this game. Yeah, it has it idiosyncrasies; but there are memorable characters - some real weirdos. Moreover, the climbing on monsters especially the ones that fly is trippy. The game does not have a ton of NPCs with speaking roles, but they are all memorable.

Jason might not get into it, but DD has some of the best "armor & outfits" you can combine and create. Making a Dire-wolf cape or the fancy mantels can be fun and the system that also you to improve objects mean you can make even outlandish armors that look fanatic work well too.

Jason Oestreicher. Weeks ago you gave me joy by playing DD Dark Arisen; now I beg you to help me in his struggle to find joy in this world. I regret that I am unable to present my request to you in person; but my ship has fallen under attack and I'm afraid my mission to Alderaan has failed. I've placed information vital to your character's survival within the memory systems of this R2 unit. Vinny or Jan will know how to retrieve it. This is our most desperate hour. Help me, Jason-Wan Oestreicher; you're my only hope.
