Must admit it seemed alright, but once again, who the hell wants to yell out commands?

Sad that this did not lead to an XBLA release for Joe Montana Sports Talk Football.

Since Joe had a game named after him, does that mean he's qualified to evaluate this one? Yes, it certainly does.

Shouldn't this feature just work fine with a regular ass microphone.. like the one bundled with the X360? Instead of forcing people to buy broken hardware. Just thinking.

Because Kinect has built in speech recognition stuff in it. The hardware is also far from broken.

HIGHLY doubt you would need kinnect for voice recognition. and yes I beg to differ kinnect is a broken piece of hardware.

@Zacagawea: There's no speech recognition hardware inside the Kinect. It's all done through software.

@gavingt: From what I understand it's built into the SDK and is way easier for the devs to just use the Kinect for voice. Also the normal Xbox mic compresses audio to a great degree making it not viable.

@nasie: You can't deny that Kinect works no matter how hard you try, because it does.

@RecSpec: My best friend was fond of NFL Quarterback Club, but I refused to play it (we both had 32x add ons, so yeah... our oblivious parents had good intentions). Football games ended for me when they started flowering up the Joe Montana game names & didn't resume until I picked up NFL Xtreme 2 in a bargain bin. Seeing Joe play that demo makes me wish for an HD re-release. If they can do it for Tecmo Super Bowl, they can do it for Joe Montana. The man just proved that he could be called upon to market the game!

Okay, that was pretty cool. Makes hot routing and blocking assignments alot easier since they made it more complicated to do them with the controller last year.

You obviously have not seen the Kinect in action...its pretty darn broken. The best that this giant webcam can do is emulate the same webcam interactivity that was available back in the late 90s and early 2000s...

Its not purely broken: it does function....most of the time, if you speak perfectly clear, have a perfect studio-like room for the device (or purchase a special add-on), stand within the 2 foot box, and only perform the exact movements that the game wants you to perform and NOTHING ELSE.

But then you have people who's clothing has screwed up calibration or movement, people who have to SHOUT PERFECTLY FORMED TWO TO THREE WORD COMMANDS...sometimes multiple times.

I consider it "broken" from the standpoint that you have to spend another $100-150, re-arrange your gaming room, never have any other noise going on for a voice-command sensitive game (and never have any conversation with friends while playing....god forbid you say something that REMOTELY RESEMBLES "Xbox Pause")....

All to get an experience my family had with our Compaq computer's webcam and pack-in software in 1999...with Windows Me.

My friend and I tried to use Kinnect voice commands to eject a disc from the xbox. After 5 minutes of yelling at the thing we gave up and pushed the button. I dont see how it will ever pick up football plays and players names. And how are you supposed to remember every players name and position you play with for the audibles? Seems like a Gimmick.

I don't know why but I thought that story is hilarious. Thanks for sharing.
