Now that all of the press conferences are done, I wanted to say how much I love these videos every year. It makes watching all of the shows so much more fun. Thanks for doing it.

Anyone getting a serious Sonic '06 vibe from this new Mario game?

The crew's reaction to Odyssey trailer might be the happiest I've ever seen them at a press "conference" in the history of the site. I can't think of anything that comes close, especially from genuine enthusiasm. Nintendo at its best makes you feel like a kid again and they nailed it this time.

Hate to be a downer. Sorry. And if you didn't have Wii U, or weren't old enough for it - hey great games to play here; (Splatoon is the most fun shooter I played in a decade!).

But for me -- I want to buy a Switch -- No, I WANT to want to buy a Switch. This presentation will not get me to buy a Switch.

As a Wii U/3DS owner with basically every major release on those consoles, this is a weak line up.

I beat Epic Yarn and loved it, and I got the Robobot 3DS game; I'm good with Kirby for like the next decade.

Yoshi's Wooley World was good and cute, i bought both versions. This new "Yoshi" looks not as good, and not even as cute. I'm good passing on that here as well.

Mario Odyssey is the best looking thing here - it had me sold at the trailers -- then watching gameplay at end I regress to "wait and see". Could win me over - but that gameplay at end did not impress me.

Xenobalde and Fire Emblem and Arms fall flat for me here

I have Pokken, Rocket League, Zelda, Splatoon, Mario Kart, Smash Bros -- i don't need re-releases (if you don't have them - good for you for not buying other systems, but for me, meh). Good games - but not exciting to me in 2017. This is a launch aimed at people that didn't own a Wii U. So not me i guess. --

I'm a downer I know -- but from my viewpoint and games i own, this does not move the needle.
i can see how for some of you this may look great. Hope it keeps getting supported better than Wii U did.

I missed the first half of this. I'm glad I checked it out. That Mario discussion was amazing! (Also, Vinny is a damned prophet.)

@squidracerx: For someone like me, the Switch is the first appealing Nintendo console since the Nintendo 64. I did buy a GameCube, but was mostly disappointed with it, par from Metroid Prime and Sunshine.

Nintendo usually has games that look somewhat interesting, but not since the N64 have they had games I legitimately really want to play. Breath of the Wild, Odyssey, Mario+Rabbits and that new Pokemon are games I really want to play.

Before, Nintendo never really passed a 2-game threshold for me to warrant buying their console.

"They're not gonna, like, show people pooping" struck me so fucking funny I looked like a maniac laughing on the train thus morning.

Awww, they didn't do the rest of the treehouse. I wanted to see them talk over Metroid 2 :(

Maybe im just getting old, but Odyssey looks boring. The gameplay looked barren and aimless with a gimmick that will get old real fast.

Dan's enthusiasm during the Odyssey trailer was so infectious. Especially when the other dudes around him are significantly more cynical kinda by nature at this point, excluding Vinny and Jason of course.

Edit: They all seemed to enjoy the trailer after all, which was really nice to see.

I'm going to assume that the guy behind the Nintendo logo at the beginning is the guy who sings Lockdown.

If you approach it from a Dungeons & Dragons context, Mario seems like he'd be half-Gnome, half-Fairy. Definitely some sort of Fey/humanoid hybrid given his above average agility and affinity towards magical powers. In Odyssey it appears like the hat is a phylactery for his soul. Does this mean Mario is a lich in this game? Geez I know the Mario universe always had some dark under currents but this game might be the tipping point. Gameplay seemed kind of meh from what they showed. Nintendo's stuff looks good but I still can't see myself owning a Switch until more stuff is actually released.

@corvidus@ripelivejam MHXX for switch has been expected for a while and is part of the mainline series, and it was confirmed pretty recently.

The switch isn't region-locked, so fortunately it'll still be playable, especially for those of us with at least a little japanese understanding. But it feels like they're fucking over their actual fans in the west to avoid giving MH World any console competition. Bleh

@zevvion: I get that - and for anyone not owning a Wii U or even Wii - Switch is a great side console -- like Sony re-releasing Shadow of the Colossus at their show for the 3rd time, (PS2, PS3, and now PS4), so cool if you never played it. A+game. Buy it! -- But I bought it twice already. So thats not exciting to me.

I'm glad Last of Us came out on PS4 because I missed it on PS3, i also get why loyal Sony fans were like "give us new games! Stop with the remasters and collections! I own that already!" that first year of PS4.

I'm a huge fan. Owned every console. I have Gamecube and Wii U hooked up right now as 2 of my 5 plugged in consoles (PS3, PS4, and Xbox One as well + PC). I now have 5 3DS games pre-ordered on amazon. And I'm just burned out by what they had here -- If you have no Wii U - like I said, id buy Switch for Zelda and Splatoon alone.

But those were both on Wii U already; with Mario Kart, Yoshi Wooley World, Pokken, Smash Bros, Rocket league(?). I'm just not sure how people can say "this is a winning E3 presentation" when its like looking at a time-loop of games i already own that they didn't want to buy before? Or games with no footage that are 2 years off. its just hard to muster up excitement for them now. Nothing sold a guy in my position this console here in this presentation. I will see what Mario has to reveal closer to launch, and wait for a Mario + Rabids QuickLook.

That trailer may be the best game trailer Ive ever seen, then the gameplay was like "oh, its like that... Eh." Dan: "those may be the best Amiibos ever..."

@darkbeatdk: I was looking at those Amiibos thinking that same thing - i didn't think peach looked like she couldn't make up her mind, i thought she looked freaked out! And that love union would probably freak her out :)

I'm with randiolo here -- This looks like a good game. But compared to that trailer -- yeah kind of sparse and boring. Not jumps I want to make. Not fun platforming. Controls didn't even seem to be great? Yeah there are weird full sized people in the city - but its the most sparse city Ive ever seen! Hopefully later levels give some fun wacky stuff to do.

@moonwalksa: im probably going to be dumb enough to import it anyway. just hoping the language barrier isn't insurmountable. hey, it might even be fun to fumble through japanese to play the game.

I swear, I keep watching the Odyssey portion of this video over and over. it's by far the best group reaction to that video I could possibly wish for. It makes me smile and laugh and I just keep watching it.

ohhh, I have almost the EXACT same consoles plugged in except substitute Xbox 360 for PS3. I thought nobody else on earth had a Gamecube still hooked up! :D

What disc is in your 'cube right now? Mine has the Zelda "Two-Game Bonus Disc!" at the moment but I did have Eternal Darkness in there right before.

I... I had no idea such a thing existed! I had a thingy where I could swipe a card through a card reader that was plugged into a controller port. I got Animal Crossing stuff with that. But I didn't know I could have played my GBA on the tv!

@leraa: Yeah it is a neat little thing, I always wanted one for the 3DS on Wii or Wii U, but the dual screens obviously make that hard/impossible.

It works with all original Gameboy games I think (I only have Zelda but that might be GB Color?), and all Gameboy Advance games. So a big library! It was $50 I think, but as I said mine was bundled with it for free.

It plugs in the bottom, you put the game in the front (this picture has a game in the slot there middle bottom), you put in the disc (same size as a Gamecube game disc), and it booted up into the GBA game. Used regular Gamecube controller. Ive never tried like "Boktai" on it, some games might be weird?

I don't agree with Dan on many things but, Mario Sunshine is a great game.

Oh that's so awesome. Do I *dare* fall down this rabbit hole?! I gave all my GBA games to my nephew years ago. I could get this, and then... then I could start collecting GBA games again and ahhhhhhhh!!!!!
