That was underwhelming. A series of trailers for largely known quantities with no actual humans. What is the point of a press conference if you're not going to actually try to talk to people? It was a bunch of people in a theater watching movies. They could have dumped these trailers onto youtube and it would have made the same impact. Nothing surprising, no indie game presence, no developers or exclusive announcements.

The only thing that was interesting is a remake of Shadow of the Colossus, and they didn't even bring someone out to talk about what they were doing. Are they making the controls less terrible? Is there any new content? Because that would be great considering I bought the HD collection just a couple years ago.

Was super disappointed overall with Sony's press conference. It seems to me that Sony is going back to that Sony arrogance level that got them in trouble with the PS3, i.e., we are the dominate leading platform so we don't have to show anything surprising or bring our A game. Outside of Monster Hunter, which I thought it was already known it was coming to the PS4?, the rest of the conference was a snooze fest. Spider-Man looks fun to play though

I'm ok with Spider-Man being a lot of QTEs if the QTEs are supposed to represent his Spidey Senses. Days Gone feels like Sony wanted an exclusive Walking Dead game with Daryl as the main character, but couldn't get the rights for it.

After seeing the main presentations so far this year for E3, the Sony one seems rather light for someone like me with 0 interest in VR.

Playstation have always been my favorite brand of console and primary gaming platform, so I'm definitely biased towards Sony when it comes to the big three. But even with that said I thought this was a really dissapoingting conference. I think Sony might have had the most meh conference. Not that the games looked bad but there was barely any new stuff at all.

@humanity: Seemed like a 40° day, to me. Trailers of games we already know about, nothing coming this year, Days Gone still looks like a snoozefest, Monster Hunter still unfortunately looks like Monster Hunter, Detroit looking like a typical David Cage game, and a second remake of a game from a dozen years ago as their only announcement.

Their best stuff was God of War and a DLC announcement.

I wouldn't call it "arrogant Sony," I just think the strategy of the last few years where they announce upcoming games with 2018 release dates finally caught up to them.

In regards to the Spider-Man discussion:

Peter Parker is still Spider-Man and is the lead of "The Amazing Spider-Man" comic series. Miles Morales (currently the lead in the "Spider-Man" comic series) is from the Ultimate Universe (separate from the mainline Earth-616 universe) where he took over after Peter Parker died in that universe.

The reality altering Secret Wars event has caused Miles to become part of the Earth-616 universe and now he and Peter Parker co-exist and are both Spider-Man. Peter does a lot more global superhero stuff and Miles is mainly your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man with a bit of Avengers action.

This game appears to be a completely original story and has nothing to do with any comic or movie storylines. The costume Spidey is wearing is an original one created by Insomniac.

And yes Spider-Man talks to himself constantly during fights and actiony bits in the comics so that's all pretty accurate.

One could argue that they showed a little too much at last year's PSX. If they revealed The Last of Us 2 at E3, the whole thing would've felt different.

Too bad about your tech difficulties, but look on the bright side.

If you had to have things go downhill, better to have it during a total shit presser that Sony gave than during a more interesting press conference hopefully upcoming from Nintendo!

Only Vinny and Dan (and Jason from off-camera) have something optimistic or positive to say about anything. The rest of the guys just seem consumed by a stifling cynicism that makes these streams kind of a downer. Ben and Jeff seem uninterested in the games and more interested in throwing out (often forced) HOT TAKES.

Between that and the network troubles, I may skip these streams next year.

@ericsmith: Haha yah my bad I forgot to add something to indicate that I was being sarcastic. I agree it was a rather lukewarm if not downright weak showing. Hey they had a pretty strong 2017 so far - didn't expect them to continue doing that well. Sony as a company has a tendency to really rest on their laurels the second they nudge ahead.

eh, i wouldn't agree with that at all. Jeff has especially been more positive & excited on games during these press conferences to the degree that actually surprised me.

@metascension: it does get tedious when there is an easy joke to be made and they all trip over each other trying to make the joke and all you hear is everyone talking at once. That's why I like to watch these after I have watched the conference first w/o commentary.

Sony is doing what Nintendo did: Moving away from E3 as the main/only platform to announce things. They're now saving all the big, crowd pleasing announcements for their own event, PSX. They even started doing their own isolated events to announce things like with the Pro event last year.

People complained that they announce things too early, so now they don't announce anything too far out (and they had announced what a lot of their studios were working on last year, besides Sucker Punch) so instead of announcing more far off games with no dates, they put dates on the things they announced last year. People are never happy.

How, after a year in which people were buzzing about Yakuza 0, do you not have a Yakuza 6 or Kiwame trailer at your E3 show?

@blipp18 Or they just don't have much of anything new to show, which is an issue compounded by the fact that they revealed a bunch of games last year that aren't coming this fall/next spring. I'm sure next e3 they'll be showing off Death Stranding, FFXII remake, Shenmue 3, etc, but none of that is really something they could trot out again for this year.

You had to soldier on guys, and that you did it impressed me. It must have been so frustrating to see the internet feed dropping out so much. I give props to Jason and Abby for working so hard behind the scenes for that show.

I think this proves that "just show the games" is a stupid plan. There needs to be context, and there needs to be someone framing what will appear on screen. Even just someone clarifying videos with "that was beta" or "that was just one part of the gameplay which will include______________" woudl help. Moreover, Sony's pre-show feed was a mistake. If it is worth saying that night, then it is worth saying on stage at full volume. Sony could have talked about Gran Turismo and other games on stage and had some interstitial intros and outros and only added 15 minutes to their show. The show would have been more clear and their message expressed far better.

Sony had a weak show. Then again EA, Bethesda and Microsoft had weak shows as well. I think Ubisoft has the best show, and the PC Showcase was at least solid this year. I am now interested to see if Nintendo's video is even worthwhile. With Sony and Microsoft doing do 'merely passable' shows, I wonder if Nintendo can make themselves look good in comparison.

It seems like Yakuza is more of a PSX game. That`s where they announced Yakuza 5, 0, Kiwami and 6 (I think) coming to the west.

I'm with Alex... No love for NieR? And damn... Call of Duty is COMPLETELY out of ideas... Back to square one... I feel bad for anyone looking forward to that. As well as God of War... "I'm Kratos!!! Look how angry I am!!!"... kinda underwhelming showing for Sony. And this is coming from a 100% PlayStation supporter.

Is it just me, or was every Sony exclusive a third person shooter/action game? WIth bonus points if they add stealth elements. They're turning into Ubisoft with their All-Game™.

I think this only compounded the issue they had with the press conference seeming boring: every game looked the same. Ironic because Ubisoft might have had the best conference this year despite their games sharing 75% of the same mechanics.

God of War's trailer was very underwhelming. I'm glad they are doing new things with combat and the son, but this isn't what I love about the series. I love the original scenario ideas and exploration which seems completely absent here. There was one nice looking part where you are rowing a boat but the rest was just Uncharted-style wall climbing. I hope this is just the trailer and not the game. I worry all of the "it's no Devil May Cry" talk caused them to change focus and completely forget what made the series so great to begin with (stuff like climbing the mechanical giant, the desert and labyrinth, or garden puzzle in 3).

So far one of the best parts of all these conference commentaries has been Jason off screen flipping out about Monster Hunter: World while everyone on camera is completely nonplussed. This might be THE one of these games I finally want to try but that could also be Jason's enthusiasm infecting me. That game would be so much more appealing to me if you could Rage Burst. Other than that nothing really exciting came out of this presentation. I own a PS4 and enjoy playing, so let's leave it at that and move forward.

It sucks that the video you guys were watching accidentally cut out some key aspects of the spider-man stuff. Like when Miles was revealed, it COMPLETELY cuts out that whole part, leaving only 2 seconds of bookends each :\ was waiting for a lot of the video to hear the reaction to that. And then,..... boom, a glitch fucks up the whole thing -.-;

Great video but years later the Spider-Man talk is still painful.
