I just need Vinny to sink his teeth into this game and destroy it. Too much apprehensive playing so far, but the game looks great. Dan also sounds like he's been a good ol' rootin' tootin' cowboy.

I really liked the "first look" video for God of War and I'm sure I'll like this too. It'd be great if y'all keep doing these for the big games that have a lot of excitement around them.

Yup he hates the movement, inventory, says whole thing feels sluggish and was not into it at all. I appreciate Jeff's opinion on this though, there is some truth to the systems maybe being too overbearing, and the movement does look slow even for a rockstar game. That said, GTA movement and gun shtuff has never bothered me, and I love a slow burn.

Man, the music in this section at least is very Ennio Morricone. The music in Red Dead 1 was definitely somewhat generic, but it felt more original than this. Some parts of this sounded like straight up For a Few Dollars More.

Did you actually play RDR1? Its sountrack is fucking incredible, I'd say it's one of the best game soundtracks of the last few generations.

Brad likes It, although he did say the story hasn't gripped him that much he had much more fun going out into the world and finding stuff to do than following the story.

I can see how the systems could be a little overbearing to some, didn't seem to bad to me though and i like a slow burn also. movement wise i think Rockstar did that on purpose to make the game seem more realistic in a sense, your wearing heavy clothing, walking most of the time on mud, It's not GTA wearing sneakers and sweat pants running on tarmac, If it were the game itself being sluggish i would understand but it's not digital foundry found it to be pretty solid in their testing, I dunno i guess i'll see how it feels tomorrow when i get to play for myself but it seemed perfectly fine to me in the live stream.

@zeroprime: @simkas:

Generic doesn't mean bad for heaven's sake.

Yes, I played the game. The music was excellent, and I love the game, but the music felt generic, influenced by all the different kinds of soundtracks we've heard in westerns, without really inventing a sound of it's own. You could levy the same criticism for the game as a whole, even though it was all clearly intentional.

With Red Dead 2, at least in this opening section, the music sounds VERY Ennio Morricone, it has a very specific influence. In other words Red Dead 1 sounded like an amalgamation of western soundtracks. It doesn't really have a unique sound within the genre, but it didn't feel like it was aping anything specific. Red Dead 2 feels like it intentionally wants to sound like Ennio Morricone, at least at times. I'd sooner have original but generic than pastiche of a specific artist.

I see what happened now. The original upload (1h 18min) this morning didn't have the "late" thoughts that were recorded recently. It all makes sense now.

Don't know why the horse controls in RDR wouldn't hold up to scrutiny in this day in age. Listening & looking at this footage, it seems like the horse controls are pretty much the same. The same holding & tapping X as you expect from a rockstar game.

Pretty funny how Vinny keeps trying to figure out what happens if you try to steer away from the cinematic shots while Alex keeps following his cowboy buddy.

How do you not have Vinny at the helm for an open world game? Fuckin' come on! Why must you force me to wish illness upon Vinny just so there's a chance he'll do a home stream?

Im actually happy jeff doesnt like it. Not cause i want him to not like it nor cause the hypebacklash fandom more because jeff was already being hit with the OH so now YOU like it cause you didnt before but since its the IT thing youll jump on. NOPE he held up his dislikes are still here so again he doesnt like it. Its not like in sonic mania either were he just never got far in sonic games and thought that most levels were just press right to win. He really gave both games a fair shake and thinks and sees flaws most overlook possibly cause its rockstar and people like their take on open world.

I love Vinny, but watching him play this kind of game can be a bit painful. He just loves to poke and prod at things to see how they break lol. Fun for a bit but personally gets a bit old for me to watch for long periods. Still, Vinny is just the best, don't want to sound too negative!

Jesus... it’s just more of what I didn’t like from RDR, or any Rockstar game post-San Andreas. Hate, hate, *hate* the movement in these games. I liked the sluggishness at the beginning, in GTA V, but it just stops being fun after awhile. Doesn’t make me want to ever pick up and play one of these for fun, because everything just takes so long, from booting up the game, to navigating menus, to trying to get your cumbersome avatar to go up that 2-foot wide ramp without spinning in a circle and falling off.

@terranova: I don't think that's what he actually said or implied. He said he kept getting distracted and enjoying the wild free roam stuff — but didn't imply that the story was lacking or that he didn't care for it.

@brackstone: I just totally disagree. On all counts. Rockstar makes homages to films — so of course there are heaps of references to spaghetti westerns. But the soundtrack as a whole in both games has a lot of memorable themes and signature riffs and almost abstract deconstructed noise. It's just beautifully done

@basanakin: To be clear, I don't have anything against Alex, but Vinny's approach to open world games (or, really, games in general) is just absolute joy, and always hilarious to watch. Vinny doesn't need someone prodding him to do something crazy or ridiculous or 'role play' the character as a jerk. He just does whatever is fun to him/he thinks would be funny. And I love that.

I don't have a Giant Bomb subscription, but I would totally pay just to watch Vinny play games.

When I went to the house at the beginning and the one guy was running he stopped running as soon as Dutch told me to let him go and he just stood there and I walked up and shot him...and in that moment I thought "ya this is still just a video game." Not feeling it as much as I hoped - the last game is one of my all time favorites. Played for about 2 hours and thought to myself I'm ready for a break.

Oh, I completely missed that the woman you rescue in that first mission is Sadie Adler. I thought she kinda came in outta nowhere in the story missions, she doesn't really play a role until the second half of the game. I guess I didn't spend enough time learning who's who at camp.
