ActRaiser was so good. Looking forward to watching this.

Oh shit that Quake II hat.

Haven't even watched the video, but the picture of brad in the Q2 hat is adorable.

Also, the soundtrack was by Yuzo Koshiro, who also did the music for Streets of Rage 1 & 2, Super Adventure Island, and lots of other good stuff.

Classic game. The sequel's good too, but it was pretty disappointing they took out all of the city building stuff. That's the best part!

This is such an unusual game. The closest thing I ever played to it was A Valley Without Wind, but that is quite different.

I love ActRaiser, and Yuzo Koshiro's music, I don't know how I never fucking knew this. Probably because I haven't played ActRaiser in, I dunno, 10 years D:

Oh man, definitely one of my all-time favorite games. Played most of it again recently and I felt it still held up pretty well.

I remember being intensely disappointed in the sequel, though, because of how much they scaled back the city-building aspect.

OMG Actraiser!

Brad is a god.

To this day, one of my biggest gaming disappointments is booting up ActRaiser 2 only to find that they had stripped out all of my favorite things from the first game.

I remember giving ActRaiser 2 another shot about 10-12 years ago. I thought maybe I could get over the removal of the town sim part, but no, I just could not enjoy the game. And it was actually pretty hard too!

Before ActRaiser 2 came out, I had assumed that ActRaiser's spiritual sequel was Soul Blazer. It shared a few similarities in that you were a god-like character helping to rebuild the world. The action was all from an overhead view like Zelda, and you'd go into dungeons and free spirits to help rebuild a corresponding town/area. In these areas, you could speak with the townspeople/animals/whatever to learn more about the world, get power ups, etc. I really enjoyed that game. It wasn't until I got on the internet a few years later that I found out it pretty much had nothing to do with ActRaiser, although I think one could easily see why I would think it did. Besides the whole "rebuild the town" element, it used a lot of the same sound effects. In reality, Soul Blazer was the first part of a trilogy of games, the other two being Illusion of Gaia and Terranigma, neither of which I've really ever played.

The last thing I remember playing that had any real similarity to this style of game would probably be Dark Cloud 1 and 2.

Just started the video, so maybe this gets brought up, but the religious overtones were a lot more explicit in the Japanese version. The Master and Tanzra were names invented for the localization to try and hide the fact that they're very much meant to be God and Satan.

Hm...maybe I'll play this. I've only ever played the first stage. OR...I could be a badass gamer and play U.N. Squadron!!!! Fire some ROCKETS instead of some lame ass angel bow!

Man I loved actraiser, there was actually a old moblie version (pre andriod/ios) which was the game without the strategy stuff, which wasn't bad for the time!

I am so happy to have some solo Brad home content. There's something special about it. Once per year for Extra Life isn't nearly enough to satiate me. (Actually all GB home streams are pretty cool.)

I loved Actraiser back in the day. Still listening to its soundtrack every now and then. There is a sweet orchestrated version of it I can only recommend. "Symphonic Suite From Actraiser"
