Kyle Katarn!

Dark Forces/Jedi Knight is perhaps the best Star Wars series of all.

Someday we will be sitting around the holofires with our great grandchildren and they will ask us, "do you remember a world before Brad rediscovered his hat?"

"AND LO," we'll reply, "IT WAS A DARK TIME FOR ALL"

What a fantastic series this was. DFII: Jedi Knight is probably my personal fave.

This game is great, but I probably still have slightly more attachment to Dark Forces II and its expansion (even if the whole "protagonist becomes a Jedi" thing is ridiculously cliché).

EDIT: I forgot about some of this stuff, but Brad's 100% right about how ambitious this game was in terms of providing a story, having an inventory and various tools to use, etc. I found it so impressive.

I haven't played Dark Forces in 20 years, and I still have nightmares about those goddamn dianogas in the sewer level.

I loved this game so much. It ran on my Mum's shitty work laptop that would steal and use at the weekends.

Huh, the voice actor for Darth Vader is Scott Lawrence, seems like he's the señor Spielbergo of James Earl Jones.

The entire Dark Forces/Jedi Knight package is on steam. Should be 75% off when on sale. It's worth it (Dark Forces 2 might need some work to get it going though)! Dark Forces 1 and 2 are 60% off on GoG right now. DarkXL works with the Steam version and adds mouse control, hardware graphics acceleration and more options.

LucasArts made some rad shooters back in the day with Dark Forces, Outlaws and Republic Commando!

This is a great game. But for me all three games in this series were fantastic when they came out. Outcast is my favorite.

There is such a reverence for Dark Forces here, but I always found it to be just a decent Doom clone with a Star Wars skin. (And believe me, I loved me some 90's SW games, just see my Profile pic). Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight was infinitely superior in gameplay, map design, story, etc - would love to see that one featured.

Brad's nostalgic enthusiasm is infectious. I never played Dark Forces, but my first FPS games (Duke Nukem 3D and Quake 2) were right around that time. And yeah...they seemed incredible.

People are probably better off getting Dark Forces 2 on GOG, since they put in the work and got it running out of the box on modern Windows systems while the Steam version is a real PITA.

I've never been a fan of Star Wars, but 2.5D FPS are always fun.

And yeah, Doom can be a bit one-note, but the super shotgun is so much fun that I don't really mind.

I remember pirating this game from my neighbor. He copied it onto SEVEN 3.5" floppy disks.

EDIT: If you're gonna use the all weapons cheat on Encyclopedia Bombastica, then show all the damn weapons! C'mon man you didn't even bust out the Dark Trooper rifle.

I only got to play around with this one on a friend's PC, but Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight was my JAM. I was in a clan for multiplayer in that game and everything. First online game I ever got into seriously.

I loved this game, but for whatever reason the sound never worked on my computer. Hearing it with sound is great and I also realize now how much I was missing out.

P.S. This game is $2.39 on GOG right now. I just bought it to play again, hopefully with sound this time!

Not in any of the original Doom games, though most source ports add vertical look as an option, so you probably played on one of those. The Doom-engine-based Heretic and Hexen had vertical look, and Hexen even let you jump.

Did you even watch the video? He pretty much spends the entire time explaining how Dark Forces is NOT just a Doom clone. And I'm sorry but the super chunky polygonal graphics in DF2 have not aged as well as DF1's 2D sprites.

I'm not a fan of the Starsy Wars in the least, but damn, the Dark Forces and Jedi Knight games were the coolest. I spent a stupid amount of time in Jedi Knight 2 just running around the demo level dismembering goobs with a lightsaber.
