I bet I'm not first!

edit: Wow, I forgot how crazy misleading the text on the crisis arm is. It doesn't do what it says AT ALL.

thanks! Good luck next week.

double edit: Oh wait no, I didn't get it. Bizarre.

Waaaaaait a minute. Wait just one damn minute. When you wipe out the screens, she's supposed to go nuts and murder you!

It's been years since I've played CT, admittedly, but am I missing something here?

@DexVandar: She is supposed to go nuts.

It also seemed to me that she was much more difficult in the DS version.

These quests are so convoluted. Beef jerky? Really? You have to figure out to buy jerky to get the moonstone? I wonder if FFVI was this retarded and I'm just remembering it being smarter than it is...

The trick to Mother Brain is that her attacks get more powerful each turn. Her first laser attack without the displays does about 40 damage, but the next one did about 150, and so on.

Yeah this quest isn't obvious at all. With the carpenter one they could actually use logic. Why would you have to buy Jerky to do this?

@DragonBomb: at least they talked to the woman in the past who wants Jerky. It is a bit of a logical stretch to have them figure out that by giving the lady the jerky it'll change the history of the family so that the mayor in the present won't be greedy, but the logic is there.

Ho boy. I'm going to guess that this is the only other side quest they won't get. The answer is pretty out there. Another thing I wouldn't have gotten without talking to everyone and guessing correctly, or reading a FAQ.

PS: I don't mean that in the crazy "oh my god, these guys are idiots!" way that everyone else seems to be up in arms about with each video. I think there are some really obscure answers to some of the quests in this game, particularly (luckily enough, I suppose) the optional quests.

Patrick was on the right path, suggesting visiting the mayor's manor in the past, but Ryan dismissed it too quickly. Have more conviction with your ideas man! You're onto something, follow through.

Dunno, man. just exploring and talking to people early in the game can get you far. I remembered the asshole trying to sell me jerky for 9,990G early on in the game...I also remembered the Chef in 600AD having me deliver jerky to the dudes on Zenan Bridge.

It's really just how involved you let yourself become, and how much attention you pay to detail.

Oh man I just noticed when he tried Cyclone the correct flame not only did not counter attack but just sat and did nothing making that a quick way to figure out which is the right one after the shuffle!

Wish I would of tried that when I was doing this fight. I had the fire resist but spent too much time guessing which flame was the real one.

I think it also depends on how spread out your playing is. That early stuff they played around Halloween. It's now January and they have played a lot of games since then. I blame Saints Row the Third on them forgetting things.

If they don't cheat they're not getting this sidequest done. Ryan never talks to the people behind the counter unless it's a shop or an inn. I'm expecting Patrick to say something like "Hey try talking to that guy behind the counter". Patrick you sly devil(Rock God) you.

Ugh, why didn't they just talk to the bartender...

I know the path for the solution is convoluted and terrible, but they were so close to talking to that bartender for the piece of Jerky you need to buy and then give to the lady in the past.

Hah classic endurance run, I love this stuff.

To all the people saying the jerky quest is really obtuse. You're totally right on one hand and kind of wrong on another. You see this quest was designed to work perfectly with the mindset of the average JRPG gamer back in the day, but for anyone else it's crazy obtuse.

What I mean is this: this quest actually starts at the start of the game when you first can buy the jerky. It was more or less the expectation that you would talk to every NPC you can before doing stuff, and if you did that you would either have or know that jerky is sold in that village before even the first time jump.

Cut to later in the game when you first get to that village. If you, once again, are in the habit of talking to everyone in the village you would learn that the lady wants jerky and you would either have it or know where to get it. Thus you can finish that part of the sidequest right there.

Finally cut to the sun stone, you've already changed history so the guy isnt greedy. Boom sidequest done.

So, I think that this sidequest is actually one of the more clever ones as it really spans the whole game and let's you see your small impacts in time change something big later. Provided of course that you are someone who talks to everyone you can and remembers small details (which, at the time, was the expectation of JRPG players)

So yeah, it makes perfect sense that they don't know what to do. As those expectations aren't the norm now and they are playing it in a format that's hard to remember minute details. Its really interesting to see how someone who doesn't have those JRPG habits deals with a quest like this that sort of expects them.

EDIT: Bleh auto correct on mobile

EDIT: And to make another thing clear. It is totally obtuse. I'm just saying its an obtuse-ness that was expected and actually celebrated in that community because they enjoyed it.

Bobo is kind of an asshole. All of his friends I guess does not include Bagus.

Having never played this game or seen the Son of Sun battle, one of the flames is not listed as a "Miss" and does not attach when you attack all of them. My favorite part, when that right flame gets into the spot that Ryan always attacks, is when he decides to stop attacking that flame. And then when they move again, he goes back to attacking that position.

But man, when Ryan realizes what is what, it's glorious.

So, they know exactly which house it is in. But Ryan wants to make it even harder and more obtuse than it actually is. I love that Patrick says the clue, the mayor's house in the past, but they can't place the idea of bringing jerky.
