Loving this. I already had over 100 hours in the game, but after the last episode, I started a new save. I completed unlocking the 7th astral body in 3 days. This game is so good.

Brad: do you have it installed on a hard drive? I've never seen streaming bandwidth issues. I believe I've only had it installed on SSDs.

@dya: have you ever encountered a hitching bug resulting from too many tethers? My game was running flawlessly until today where it randomly freezes for a second once in a while and I hear this happens when you have too many tethers on a single network .

@dya: I'd imagine that Brad's sluggish world loading performance is connected to Vinny being the host and having to upload new map chunks to Brad. Given Brad's gigabit upstream I would think he'd be the best choice for being the host for multiplayer games like this.

The tethers don't have collision if they're properly planted on the ground. If the ground underneath a planted tether gets disturbed from digging then the tether gets dislodged and it then has collision.

The habit I've gotten into with planting tethers is to place them on the ceiling or walls of tunnels so I don't hit them while I'm flattening tunnel floors. I also try to avoid building them at the extreme limits of the tether length so that in cases where they do get dislodged, there's enough slack that the line won't break from falling over, as well as allowing you some room to reposition it to another spot without having to plant another one.

Another big tip: Having your terrain tool out dramatically increases the range limit at which you can access and pickup items. This is a big help when working in your base and you're trying to click on multiple different crafting stations or moving resources around.

Also be careful when exiting vehicles (particularly the rovers) when in tight tunnels, as exiting can cause you to spawn inside the ground and the game will start phasing you through the geometry until you hit an clear spot (that could be a hundred meters away.) If you die in that spot it's almost impossible to find your stuff again because there's no bread crumb trail to get you there.

Easily one of my favorites as a big fan of Astroneer. Even if it is equal parts frustrating and amusing watching quite possibly two of the least observant people I've ever seen.

Don't get me wrong, I'm here to see yall experiment and learn the game. I'm not here for pro play. But bruh...

I'm pretty sure this is the real reason. I've run this game on a regular HDD, and SSD, and now an NVMe and although it loads faster each step up the ladder, I've never had an issue with world streaming locally. And if this lockdown has shown us anything over the past however many weeks it's that undoubtedly super-congested NY/NJ residential internet is rough for hosting and streaming.

Oh man, I love this series so much.

Small tip, unlock the Large Platform B. Large Platform B + Medium storage is my go-to combination for early game base building, and partially solves some of Vinny's issues with automation. A machine will auto-pull any resources that are on the same platform as itself, so you can have a Medium storage full of Quartz on one side, a Smelter in the middle, set it going and it'll fill up a medium storage with glass on the other side.

Then you can pick up the entire storage and move it to your platform with a printer on it, etc. It gets better with larger platforms.

I have gotten to a point where I'm traveling in the solar system and seeing the possibilities stretch out and it's getting a little intimidating. Love this series to help keep me sane.
