Changes or not, this feature rocks. The whole opening the shop is some of the best stuff I've seen all year.

I unironically love how the game show has become a pseudo microcosm of game development the way that the crew has to "patch" the rules each episode. And the wheel, which was once just a minor aspect of the game, has overtaken DK64 as one of the primary features of the show.

I haven't seen the strategy guide, but based on the context, I'm guessing that the sentence was supposed to be something like "Use the newly revealed [Tiny Kong saxophone music pad thing] to summon the bird," but imagine that the part I put in [ ] is actually just a symbol of literally that saxophone music pad printed in the middle of the sentence. Somewhere all the process of writing that strategy guide, they fucked up and broke a link to the picture or something and nobody noticed, so it got printed with some broken formatting that just said 0&. That is my guess.

That section was pretty tough to watch, but I guess they haven't learned the game's design language that if there's a Tiny Kong barrel AND a Tiny Kong music pad [or any other Tiny Kong thing] both in the same area, they're probably both relevant. Usually the goal in this game is to activate a fairly visible thing (draw distance notwithstanding). Rarely is the solution "become tiny Tiny Kong with no idea what you're supposed to do and just blindly walk around for 45 seconds."

@garr123: Or at least the leave the room rule needs a time limit! Leave the room for 30 minutes. I'm sure it was just dumb luck that it came up at all, let alone that it was the first spin on the new wheel, but it could still be improved/modified.

I wasn't sure about Mike at first, but he's perfect for this. I also love his excitement when he sees coins up ahead that will lead to a spin of the wheel!

Also the addition of Ricky during the wheel spins when Vinny was out the room was incredible. Great job!

the point where Abby used a trombone on a pad clearly marked with a saxophone and wondered why nothing happened is extremely emblematic of my problems with this series, namely that they just don't have enough time individually with the game and some of them seem kind of checked out when they aren't playing

watching someone wander around and wonder aloud what they should be doing when it's extremely clear what they should be doing isn't particularly funny or interesting to watch, especially if there's no banter happening

@inco: Couldn't agree more. I played this game 20 years ago and I still feel like this game is fairly intuitive to anyone who has any experience with gaming. They are really checked out / not paying attention AT ALL to not be getting most of this stuff. It's too frustrating for me to watch. Not sure why I've kept coming back; I keep expecting them to figure it out, but no.

@praried0g: you say that the game is fairly intuitive, but that's also because when you played it, you got the moves, you saw the moves' tutorial text, and you got to use the moves; here, only one person is actually getting the moves, and the other three might be engaged in a conversation that distracts them from the game, in addition to them just being fairly disinterested in the game

contrast this to their stint in SM64 with the same rules: there, the players are invested in the game, they are paying attention even when it's not their turn to play, and it's just far better; i think the ultimate problem is that DK64 is an extremely poor choice for this format due to its complexity and tedium

@inco: Good point; I think you hit the nail on the head. Poor game choice and 0 investment = subpar content. Oh well, the Dan's game part of it can be kinda fun in a dumb way at least. Even that feels kind of diminished with them not caring though.
