Burgle My Bananas: Episode 08

@posh: It's a better game than they gave it a chance to be. Def hasn't aged well but was tossed aside fairly quickly. Didn't help they kind of ignored half the tutorials when they were happening.

This has been such an amazing series. Take a basic and not really fun idea (playing donkey kong 64) and make it into something amazing! Great job to all involved! I am looking forward to more bat shit insane series from the Beast coast!

I dunno man, seeing their quality of play in SM64, I don't think all the problems in DK64 were caused by the game. Just saying.

This was fun though, and ended the only possible way. Perfect.

I really loved this feature! I think it lasted the perfect amount of time, too. I'm really looking forward to whatever you guys come up with next.

Abby and I have complete opposite tastes in movies. Hell or High Water was great. The performances were great, and the story was really intriguing. Ben Foster is WAY under rated in damn near everything. If you haven't seen it, Leave No Trace was my second favorite movie of 2018 (Paddington 2 being the best IMO).

I love how quickly they wiped away all the traces of Extra Life to make room for the Burgle-hurricane. I myself would have needed at least 4 days of space between the two.

I really enjoyed BMB, but seeing them play Mario 64 just makes me want a series focused on that.

Riki and Kiki showing up as Dan rips the shop apart was gold.

You're absolutely right - as a little hack to check for those versions simultaneously, some programs would check for the substring "Windows 9" in the version name string (rather than a numerical version ID). You can see samples of such code here.

I imagine there may be something to what @vinny was saying in general, though: version 10 seems like an opportunity to do something symbolically big, so there may be some reticence to get on board with the preceding version. On the other hand, 9 is the highest digit the version number can start with, and people can be subconsciously kind of simplistic about that kind of stuff (prices ending with .99, millions and billions feeling like they're in the same ball park as "very big numbers", when the latter is literally a thousand times larger, etc.). So who knows.

Wasn't the unofficial marketing line when Windows 10 was announced that it was so good they skipped a version? That's some pretty cheesy spin, but perhaps there's something to them wanting to put some distance between it and Windows 8.

This was so much fun.
I really hope they do more "sunshine & burgle" stuff next year.

There was a Mac OS 9 before OS X. Apple definitely just skipped iPhone 9 though because iPhone X sounded cooler. And it's hard enough to gin up excitement for the yearly iphone release at this point.

What a weird end to a weird series of videos. Definitely had it's moments, but I'm glad it's over.

Now you guys can get back to more cool playdates, preferably ones that involve terrible/awesome FMV games.

I still had fun watching overall, but whenever I look back on this feature I'll just think "wasted potential".

@dedbeet: Weird that you care about the situation so much, especially considering how douchy Dan has been on various features in the past.

Also, Vinny suggested at the end that he'd sort Dan out with a belt of his own at some point. Even if he doesn't, who cares?

This episode did make me notice just how much Mike loves talking. It's entertaining, but I don't know how he's not more aware of it.

Also, goddamn does Abby love stating opinions as fact! The film talk was really irritating!

That was hilarious. REALLY thought they were going to pull out the audio-version of The Quiet Man this time, but it's probably better this way.

Oh wow, it’s known that Dan has anxiety but I didn’t know he had anxiety about swallowing. When I first started getting anxiety in my early twenties it was exclusively because of swallowing issues. I kept getting an ocd-triggering worry of choking which would trigger panic attacks whenever I ate. It was so bad, I lost 30 pounds in a month.

Still got anxiety and stuff but it’s manageable and no longer associated with swallowing. Just thought that was a crazy-specific thing to have in common with Dan.

Also, could not get into the movie Wind River. Probably has something to do with that Rez being where I was born, raised, and where I’m back to living at but it also had too many trope-ass tropes; the ones that always show up in movies about indigenous peoples.

@dedbeet: I’m all for not encouraging bullying, but Dan’s like the biggest dick of the whole GB staff and screws over everyone else whenever possible in a game (Extra Life has plenty of examples), so I wouldn’t worry too much about him.

Oh right, the series itself. This whole thing was kind of a convoluted mess. Funny moments here and there, but not really all that great as a whole.

A wonderful and wild ride of a feature, essentially capstoning a great year of features. Can't wait for Plunder My Puzzle Pieces.

Really loved this series! One of the best. Can't wait to see the sequel. Maybe just base it around finishing Mario 64. Also DK64 sucks ass.

Sad that it's over, but what a ride. Honestly possibly my favorite set of videos this year, maybe even longer. Great work everyone, especially Dan!

This series was fantastic from start to finish. Nearly every episode had its own unique, chaotic spin (often literally, with some real choice spins of the wheel), and I was entertained the whole damn way. Can’t wait to see what you all do next. And please bring Mike Mahardy in again because dude rules.

While this definetly had more downs than ups (at least for me), this was a very fun trainwreck to watch. Part of me wishes they had actually tried to beat the game, but part of me knows that they probably had no plans of actually beating it. Maybe next time they do something like this they will actually play a game they like, because I loved the weird game show elements.

Well, I now know I super don't care about wine.

Mahardy is a gem

I'm gonna call bullshit here because Vinny's bet with Abby was that he wouldn't get "a banana" within his turn, and then he ended his turn by getting the golden banana, thus acquiring "a banana." So, they would have technically all ended their turns without enough bananas to buy the toolbox, making it Dan's turn, allowing him to buy the belt.

Dan should of gotten the belt.

@ermack: Yes, he bet Abby he wouldn't get a banana so that he could lose the bet; making it Abby's turn and giving her all of his bananas. Mahardy then also intentionally lost a bet and gave Abby the rest of their bananas.

Dan's beard has become its own character at this point. Every time he struggled to open the Funky Shop. Every time.

Absolutely spectacular series. Pure gold content. I'd love to see more of this fake game show stuff from East.

If we can't send trash to Antarctica then the entire premise of this series was flawed.

For the last few episodes, Dan should have been able to buy the belt. The rule was that you have to buy one of the items BEFORE your turn. So every time Abby ended his turn with the banana peel, she should have been made to wait until after he bought the belt because he hadn't started his turn yet.

Regardless, this series was fantastic.

Beast Coast has been the best coast for years. I still like what West does, but it doesn't compare for me.
