Is the Apex community just worse on console or something? Alex is always talking about how bad it is, but I can't remember the last time I had a racist or harassing teammate playing Apex on PC. The worst I tend to get is someone being pissy about drop location, but even that is like 1/10 games.

In regards to the Casters in the Blizzard thing, I read that they very clearly set up the player for saying what he said. Both Bombcast and Beastcast has said the opposite. Does anyone know if the casters did knowingly set up the player? Not that it forgives Blizzard, but I do want to know the facts.

I don't know if Dan was joking or not, but as a huge fan of Final Fantasy I think Tactics is the best FF game. Even if you don't like FF you should probably still play FF Tactics.

@sloppydetective: the crew is referring to the video of what happened. Nobody on the crew speaks mandarin to my knowledge, so if it’s set up they probably wouldn’t know from the video. I suspect that the casters would have been expected to cut away the second Blitzchung showed up with a mask on.

Wasn't the stream a Taiwanese stream? So they wouldn't be subject to China's censorship laws anyway. Part of the backlash is due to the fact that Blizzard punished people for something that wasn't even broadcasted in mainland China to begin with

While I didn't play a lot on PS4, I do not remember running into people being racists on mikes. The closest thing I got to "harassing" was a teammate telling me I was an idiot for getting killed. I also got people being pissy about the drop location. Outside of that, I got the all-to-common parent yelling at his kid.

@11111110: The Chinese government uses the threat of withholding access to its consumer base to control the behavior of companies outside of its borders. The incident happened on a Blizzard stream, so Blizzard cut ties with the casters and punished Blitzchung to make it clear that anti-Chinese-government behavior won’t be tolerated on their platform to pacify the CCP. Whether it’s legal or not in the broadcasting country is irrelevant to the Chinese government.

Regarding DOOM Eternal multiplayer stuff: Mike was talking about Battlemode, which is the 2v1 mode that should still be available on launch. The mode that is being added post-launch is Invasion, which allows you to spawn in as a demon in another player's campaign, like @danryckert was asking.

Yeah that's kind of the issue, China using extralegal means to police speech outside of their borders. And it's not like Blizzard depends on China for half their sales, less than 13% of their revenues comes from the entire 'Asia-pacific' region. That includes China, Australia, Japan and South Korea. And South Korea is their biggest asian market.

Cool to hear Alex played the Chikara game. Bummer it doesn't sound so hot. It was a crowd-funded game too.

The promotion itself remains one of my favorite (if not most favorite) to watch. It's based in Pennsylvania and has run the majority of their shows at their training center (the Wrestle Factory) in Philadelphia since scaling down a bit in 2015 (though they did hold their King of Trios tournament in England about two years ago). They've been around since 2002, and I've been following them and attending a lot of their shows since 2005. They use a lot of wild ideas and characters. A lot of lucha libre influence for their multitude of masked wrestlers and match styles. A lot of comic book influence for the storylines they've done (a lot of involving covert stables of wrestlers that don't reveal themselves until they hatch their plans).

Cesaro was a regular in Chikara prior to signing with WWE, wrestling under his given name Claudio Castagnoli. There was a time when he disguised himself as a mysterious third member of Los Ice Creams, when he was thought to have left for WWE in 2006.

The "battle ants" are called The Colony, and they've consisted of several members over the years. WWE's Drew Gulak played one of them.

The invisible grenade is a staple move of Chuck Taylor, who is now with All Elite Wrestling (AEW). Here's maybe his most famous use of it, with the aforementioned Colony:

Not mentioned but a large part of why Blizzard probably felt it had to go hard against the Hong Kong player protest is the huge boondoggle that is the Overwatch League and the $100+ million tied up into the four Chinese teams and the arenas they are building for next season. They are indebted to the mainland Chinese government and populace far beyond just game sales now.

I don't see them budging an inch, it could very well sink the company (and it still may!)

Yeah I hear a lot of people championing Tactics and FF7 the most. I'm the crazy person who loves World of Final Fantasy the most (I love monster capture games), followed by FF Tactics Advance 2 and FF12.

I met Kenny Omega and Riho at a local comic con last weekend and Kenny said the “ink is drying” on a deal for an AEW game. So hopefully we’ll get more wrestling game options out there.

I really wish Backalar would get into the nitty-gritty about pinball whenever he brings it up on the show. I guess I understand why he doesn't, since the rest of the crew, not being as into pinball as he is, would probably lose interest or ask a bunch of questions, but it unfortunately makes every pinball discussion on the show feel kind of the same.

I kind of agree with Mike. I was personally disappointed in Sayonara Wild Hearts. I've been looking forward to that game since the Game Awards reveal, and there's something about the structure.. everything is either too short or takes too long (the loading between the levels feels as long as the levels themselves, and this is on PS4, least the first time through). I was also expecting a little more of a Dream Pop sort of feel out of the music, but short of a few tracks, that kind of falls a little flat too.

Mike: Valkyrie Profile is waaaaaaay more melancholy than Ind. It's very very adult and different in a wonderful way.

Unless I missed it, you didn't mention the fairly important fact that Blitzchung is from Hong Kong.
